Chris Delusion

Chris Matthew started off the Pennsylvania primary coverage with a bang tonight. Shortly after 6, seated by co-anchor Keith Olbermann, Matthews called the primary, and thus his coverage tonight, basically moot. "This contest is essentially over," he proclaims to Keith. "Barack Obama is going to win the most elected delegates."

He went on to say of the media, "Trying to keep this game going, we've created the delusion that somehow this race is still open."

Flashback:
Obama sends a thriill up Chris Matthews' leg.

Of course he already won, it is mathematically impossible for her to do so. Thanks for speaking the truth Chris.

RACE is alive and well in America. The democratic party will not beable to withstand the uproar if they over turn the will of the people. Obama has more popular votes, more delegates , more states. PA was not a "game changer" like Clinton camp says. Clinton on the other hand wants to change the GAME. FL and MI broke the rules, Obama and Clinton both agreed not to campaign there and that their votes would not count. Big surprise folks, Clinton is losing and now she wants to count those votes.

She dosen't want to disinfranchise the voters, she says! She also says" I can win the big states", well Clinton you won TX with the help of the Republican ditto heads. I wonder if that didn't happen in PA also. Regardless, Obama can carry the big states against McCain. He won't win TX, but either would Clinton. That is a RED state, and a RACIST state. I know I live here.

I am a white woman over 50 and we will all vote for Obama in the General Election in my family. I am a proud voter of Obama. The dirty Republicans here in Kingwood,TX don't like my signs in my yard, or on my car , (infact they steal them off my car) but you know what if Hillary can say it , I can too. SCREW EM!!

the race is over? Obama hit the 2028 mark already? I must have missed that.

Well, if you're a Hillary supporter, you're going to be in for some disappointment soon.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:52 AM on 04/23/2008

Yes, connorin, the race is over. Clinton just doesn't have the class or care for the Democratic Party or respect for anyone not herself to be a gracious loser. Let her stay in kicking and screaming as she is dragged off-stage by the party elders.

The only way that Hillary can win the nomination is by trashing Obama and having the uneducated believe what she says. If Hillary has to win this way, that says a lot about us as a country. How are we supposed to have respect for the people that run our country?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:18 AM on 04/23/2008

The only Obama can win the nomination is having the STUPID people believes what he says.

-- Obama said he did not hear what Rev Wright said AFTER HE SAID HE HEARD!!!
-- Obama said he uses PUBLIC fund now he refuses
-- Obama said no negative ad now HE IS DOING

Is that all you can come up with? Your example are petty and lame. I wish democrats of any persuasion would quit saying McCain is going to swoop down and win the election. The party needs cohesiveness, not division. Can we please do this, for once???

Yes 2351 ... I agree. Regrettably, the great and persistent cultural divide speaks volumes about us as a country; yet for the Clintons' and their strategists to purposely use bigotry (ethnic, gender and race) for personal gain and without obvious consideration for the harm being done, is reprehensible and unpatriotic. From the spoken words of the PA governor, who obviously know and understand his voters, it was not about their reluctance to embrace Senator Obama, but also a black man. This was news to me (forgive my naïveté) and is unfortunate. What an appalling blemish on Pennsylvania to have been portrayed and dominantly played as a "blue collar" state and is this code for?

The media's contribution to this election process is self-serving; they are doing what corporations are suppose to do, generate income for stockholders.

I think there are probably a number of reasons why the MSM has encouraged the citizenry to believe that this race is anything but over (when anyone with basic math skills has known it was over two months ago). For some of the pundits who are true political junkies (I would count Matthews among these), it's simply exciting and interesting, it gives them something to think about and talk about.

For the corporate owners of MSM outlets, they see both short-term and long-term advantages to keeping it alive. In the short term, it keeps consumers coming back for more, boosting ratings and ensuring that advertising revenues keep flowing. In the long term, it increases the likelihood that the Democratic candidates damage each other so badly that McCain actually wins in November, guaranteeing the continuation of the largesse these multi-billionaires currently receive from the Bush administration.

But Matthews spoke correctly. It's the same math that Jonathan Alter explained on MSNBC eight weeks ago, and it hasn't changed. In fact, it's actually WORSE for Senator Clinton post-PA: she now needs to win the remaining contests 80-20 over Obama to make up the elected delegate and popular vote gaps.

But math is really boring. 'Rocky' didn't have any math in it.

Yeah--Keith had his little scoldie face on, asking everyone questions to make them say this is bad for Hillary, right? That channel is pretty---yawn---predictable by now. And I still want to know--who the heck is Chuck Todd? Can I buy a Bobble Head of him? I saw that Shuster was pimping out a pen that laffs like Hillary.

It's going to be great when Hillary wins the nomination, What!....lol

Hillary is not going to win nothing if they decide to give her this nomination. She is dividing the party, really already has, no way will she get the afro american and young votes.

Follow the rules Hillary, follow the rules, if you think you can win, win with honor.

Why are you so opposed to allowing Democracy unfold? Some bonehead rules made by Ted Kennedy in 1980 does not trump American right to vote! Why can't Obama close the deal?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:20 AM on 04/23/2008

The real question isn't why can't Obama close the deal, the real question is how did the Goliath Hillary allow a political Newbie to clean her clock? How did someone with the name recognition of Clinton, and with the backing of the entire political machine in PA squander a +20% lead?

The media routinely struggles to present "two sides to every story".

If 13,498 scientists believe global warming is a real issue, and 12 do not, we see two opinions in a roundtable discussion as if they both hold the same weight. Never mind that the 12 are kooks.

Likewise, in effort to tell us the story of this primary race, they have been fixated on the Clintons because they are newsworthy, and given Hillary supporters a false hope that she some how be nominated and given the Clintons an excuse to destroy any chance for the democrats to win the White House.

In its struggle to present the "rest of the story" they have changed the story. They learned absolutely nothing from "calling" the presidential race where George W. Bush was crowned "king" prior to the polls actually closing. They are determined to keep the race going because it is after all, good for ratings, and job security for political pundits as the networks scramble for new faces to express their opinions.

She should have been dismissed as was Mike Huckabee, a long, long time ago.

What are you talking about. It is a close race. It's almost a 50/50 split among Dems. Hillary has the right to stay in the race and about 1/2 of the democrats want her to.

Stop blaming Hillary she idid not destroy anything. Neither one of these candidates are viable after the primary process they have been through. It's not either of the candidate's fault we need anouther choice

Hello? What race have you been watching?

Using right wing tactics to attack her own party? Lying and morphing into whomever she needed to be "that day" to get a vote?

If the MSM and political pundits would have stepped away from the tantrum throwing, and absolute ludicrous remarks she was making, instead piping them into the mainstream, we all would have understood that she couldn't win. I supported her in the beginning, but for God's sake do the math.

They kept hope alive in the hearts of her supporters and they have rallied around a lost cause, avoiding the cohesion of the party and instead buying into her divisiveness.

If she hadn't spewed such hate for her opponent, her followers wouldn't have rallied behind her clenched fist profile crying "yea... yea... what she said! That's right! You're what she said!"

AMEN!! Because they are Corporate Control and WANT McCain to win. If Obama is focus on Hilary he can't focus on the STraight Talk Exress. Obama wants to transform this country. Hilary is going to just tinkle at the edges and the straight talk express will just continue with it as it is. We no longer have an independent media they are controlled by Corporate America. Although Keith Olbermann is his own person I'm guessing cause his show brings in the ratings.

Matthews and Olbermann really sound like two idiots. One minute they say the the race is over the media is creating the fact Hillary can possibly win. Then in the next sentence they say Obama will really have to blow it in the next couple of weeks for her to win. Then they talk about the controversies in Michagan and Florida.

These two boobs contradict themselves every other sentence.

I am a lifelong Democrat and I don't like Obama like about 1/2 fellow dems, I would prefer Clinton but neither of these candidates are electable. Obama has proven he is not popular in the swing states that will decide the election.

The DNC better come up with a compromise candidate if we are going to win

Weird (above). I have had this feeling for awhile that the two candidates in the end may not be two of these three.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:16 AM on 04/23/2008

I have to vehemently disagree with that one. The "Media" tried to convince everyone in the country (Chris no exception) and the world that Clinton could not win and that she will not win and that all they talk about is how Obama will win out in the end. I am sick of it. Every controversial person he has been associated with or anything he has said that has been questionable to his character is swept under the rug with one of his "I meant to put it that way" or how can I be blamed with who I associate with (as long as they don't influence his politics). What a bunch of B.S. A person seeks out others on his own level. I think that is just what Obama has done all his life and I hope it all comes out before the election. Go Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Martin Luther King, Jr. also said "judge a person by their character, not by the color of their skin". If Obama's really getting 92% of the black vote, how can it be justified?

Clinton clobbers Obama in PA, after winning Ohio, NY, NJ, Mass, CA and Keith
thinks Obama is the choice of the people. I'd bet if we redid Iowa today,
Hillary would win. Obama should resign for the good of the party.

Here comes the spin again. If only we could start all over, if only Michigan and Florida didn't break the rules, if only......The media hype is just that, hype. They have until November 7 to spew all their nonsense and have interviews with all these so-called experts and analyists that really don't know anymore than the average Joe. Speaking of Joe, Scarborough needs to be canned from MSNBC for using his show as a springboard for his love of Hillary. I have the "Morning Joe Show" blocked on my TV. I dont even want to turn him on by mistake.
The moral of the story is your basic math. Hillary cant win the delegate vote, or the popular vote regardless what states Obama does and doesn't win. And to think that the SUPER DELEGATES will override the will of the American people, is in and of itself dishonest garbage put forth by our horrific media.

Please the Clintons both have negatives high in the 50% range...catching up with Bush. A 8.5% win in PA when she started with 37% is hardly "clobber". Obamas win 75% in the Chessapeak across the board or a 40% win in WI is a "clobber"

When I heard him say the media created the impression, I wanted him to say NOW WE ARE GOING TO UNMAKE IT.

The way the media frames the debate irritates me. Is it possible for the media to report what is actually going on?

Will the MSM do it?

Why isn't the media willing to explore the trend lines the polls tell them? If 13% of PA voters voted on race and 75% of those voters went for Hillary, what issues matter the most to that percentage?

How many of this 13% of Democratic base is represented in Independents and Republicans? To what extent is this true of the female candidates?

Tell us what you know based on what people have actually self reported NOT what your gut tells you has to be true.
