Actor Ewan McGregor says he is "fine" after having a cancerous mole removed from just below his right eye.

The 37-year-old, best known for the Star Wars prequels and Trainspotting, said doctors removed several moles on after he went for a check-up.

"I went to see a specialist who thought they were better to be removed, and indeed he was correct," he said.

McGregor, who is promoting the erotic thriller Deception, insisted the surgery was "not that big of a deal".

The star admitted he was aware that having pale skin and spending time in the sun meant he was more at risk, and it "was best to be looked at" by doctors.

I have to tell you, when I hear Ewan sing any song in "Moulin Rouge" waves of ecsctacy fill me. When he sings "Your Song", I really lose it. It's strange really.

Some voices really get me, and he has THE one.

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!! I completely wore out my Moulin Rouge dvd and soundtrack cds back in the day. I listened to them everyday while hiking or driving to classes, and I watched the dvd every weekend while writing my term papers or catching up on assignments. Now those songs are safely tucked away in my Ipod for future enjoyment.

About time he got those ugly things sliced off. And thank God he didn't have testicular cancer; anyone who's seen him (and I do mean all of him) in Young Adam knows what a loss that would be!

Awwwww, he looks so different. I'm glad he's healthy... but I kinda liked the moles. In that top photo he looks more like David Beckham than himself.

In the expanded article, gotta love these lines, for a taste of a culture other than the US:

"If you're worried about a mole you can see your GP who, if they think it might be cancerous, can refer you to a dermatologist," she added.

"It doesn't cost anything and there are no long waiting lists, so it's definitely better to be safe than sorry."

I always wondered why McGregor didn't have those moles removed sooner. They were really noticeable in the movie "The Island" and unattractive on an otherwise very good looking man.
