I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Maddow And Buchanan

During MSNBC's coverage of the Pennsylvania primary results Tuesday, Pat Buchanan got into a debate with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow about the significance of Obama being unable to finish off Hillary Clinton. In the midst of their discussion, Maddow argued that there was no connection between Obama's ability to beat Hillary Clinton and his ability to beat John McCain. How did Buchanan respond? Rather nonsensically, in that he advised Maddow to "hold the Marxist dialectic."

Pat is a worn out hack who thinks he has relevant opinions and people care what he says and thinks....I find his commentary to be basic hogwash and he is palying his agenda out for the GOP...

I'd think the comment is just a knee-jerk, emotional reaction of built-up frustration because he, to your point, is increasingly being outclassed by a younger, more intelligent punditry.

One thing I did like about Buchanan is he wasn't pushing Leo Strauss inspired propaganda like the rest of the MSM. He had truly Conservative beliefs and he seemingly didn't try to muddy debates using intellectual dishonesty like Carlson, Russert, ABC, Fox Noise, etc. He did his research and he presented his honest point of view.

This was an embarassing misjudgement for him.

For the life of me I can't understand why MSNBC is so in love with Buchanan. Rachael Maddow can out-debate Buchanan any day, so he resorts to insults. This is not the first time he has done this with Rachael.

They love him because he is good. I laughed so hard when I heard him say that. Buchanan is the man!

"They love him because he is good".
Sure but what is he good at exactly?

" I laughed so hard when I heard him say that."
You should probably have that checked...

" Buchanan is the man!"
And Rachel is the woman... glad to see you have been paying attention.

A quick review of the posts here are typical of the way politics is played today - and, by the way, is an indication that Liberal activists are exactly the same as Republican activists.

First of all, attack the messenger, in this case a guy who has made some pretty good calls lately - like being opposed to the invasion of Iraq.

Secondly, misrepresent (or misundertand) the quote. Pat wasn't calling anyone a Communist. He was making an erudite, and admittedly somewhat tenuous, analogy that Obamaphiles mirror the early Marxists in that they believe that their victory will result in some form of ultimate transformation that will change the way we view the past and the way the world moves forward - 'the end of history'.

Pat's a jerk about as often as any talking head, but let's have an honest discussion - if we need to discuss talking heads discussing what other talking heads say in the first place.

He is delusional, obviously listening to little people living in his head, he is very rude to african americans and women, he lies and he attacks people that say anything he disagrees with.

He is a ridiculous relic that needs to go spend more time with his family.

Enough is enough,

"He was making an erudite, and admittedly somewhat tenuous, analogy"

Really? Somehow I doubt that Buchanan has ever developed an analysis that Obama supporters "mirror the early Marxists in that they believe that their victory will result in some form of ultimate transformation that will change the way we view the past and the way the world moves forward." Too many words and concepts for a knee-jerk winger like Buchanan to assemble into a single expression of thought. To Buchanan, a "Marxist" is a "communist" - and his perception and intent is that the "Marxist/communist" label is a vicious insult to the person who is the target, and an accusation that the person receiving the insult is not a "patriot."

Karl Marx wasn't a Russian, he was a German. Buchanan is throwing out 'Marxist' as an epithet because he knows 98% of his constituency couldn't differentiate the theories of Karl Marx from Groucho Marx.

It's amazing because the establishment is unknowingly(?) doing a great job of proving Marx theories. This is never brought to the forefront because Americans either don't read or forget any history they've learned older than 15 years or if it doesn't involve oral sex.

poor pat. as the MSNBC representative of conservatives he's a smart and fairly likable old fart, but as the representative of old-white-men-in-power he comes off as desperate and pathetically fearful.

I dont know why she even bothers to engage in these ridiculous conversations. I was watching and trying to listen to what Rachel was saying but the men kept cutting her off. When Pat B. said that to her I just turned it off altogether. He is sexist and he has nothing of any use to say which is why he has resorted to name calling. Give Rachel her own show already!!

Marxist is a descriptive term, an ideology, and definitely by any manner of speaking a name. Some may even consider it an insult.

Rachel-You are too good for that show, the producers do not back you up, get out of there. TV is not where it is at anymore. Its done. They are corporate run by goold ole white boys, they picked Obama apart until he was raw and they will do the same for you. Run, don't walk.

Good point. The reich-wing commentators are further marginalized every day now that the Strauss koolaid has worn off.

Put Scarborough out of his misery, give the show to a lib and maybe Joe and Carlson can reinvent and start a Reagan souvenir shop or something...

Actually, we need real broadcast journalists like Walter Chronkite and Eric Sevaried. Just the news. No self professed political pundits.
But, that won't happen. Politics is the new entertainment. It's mud wrestling for intellectuals and those that consider themselves intellectuals.
