Colbert Responds To Clinton/Obama 'Copycat' Fight

Last week, after both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama appeared on the Colbert Report, a spat broke out between aides to the campaigns:

"I can't believe it -- he's such a copycat," fumed a person close to Clinton, telling Newsday that the candidate herself said was surprised by Obama's Colbert Nation invasion.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton says his boss was simply taking the show up on its repeated requests that he appear - and that the producers had suggested the Thursday time slot. (Colbert's spokeswoman didn't return calls for comment.) "I'm not surprised the Clinton campaign attacking us for going on the Colbert Report -- since their campaign is 100% negative," Burton said. "But I do have to say this is about the lamest attack they've come up with so far."

On Tuesday, Stephen Colbert played referee, judging which candidate was the bigger copycat. Watch it:

I don't know if anyone noticed but one of the items listed as a distraction for Obama was Israeli Newspapers­.......wha­t was that all about? Does that mean that all jews are alike? Does that mean that Obama has isolated the jews and is working them over? Or does that mean he plans to work them over? Each Jewish newspaper has a different slant and bias to Obama either favorable or unfaforabl­e....I saw that and I did not like it. It's not even Colbert funny. I wonder how many of you Obama supporters payed attention to it. Are you so intent on electing a black candidate that you blind yourself to his negative attacks. This is a negative attack and it isn't funny.

Precisely the point of the entire clip; the Clinton campaign's cannibalizing of the Obama "Yes We Can" message and using it to a less powerful effect was the punchline. Oh beautiful irony that is the Clinton camp.
