ABC reports:

A number of Democratic strategists have said Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., would be the best presidential candidate to help down-ballot Democrats in the fall, but a new ad set to be released by the North Carolina Republican Party could make a few candidates weary of latching onto Obama's coattails.

The North Carolina Republican Party is trying to use the controversy surrounding Sen. Obama's former Pastor Jeremiah Wright against Democratic gubernatorial candidates in the state.

The party is preparing to unveil a television ad which functions on two levels: paint Obama as "extreme" for attending Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Rev. Wright made incendiary comments and knock Democrats Bev Perdue and Richard Moore for endorsing someone as "extreme" to North Carolina as Obama.

Here's the ad:

UPDATE: Sen. John McCain's campaign released the following email sent by McCain to North Carolina Republican Party Chair Linda Daves "imploring her not to run their new TV ad":

Dear Chairman Daves,

From the beginning of this election, I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement.

This ad does not live up to the very high standards we should hold ourselves to in this campaign. We need to run a campaign that is worthy of the people we seek to serve. There is no doubt that we will draw sharp contrasts with the Democrats on fundamental issues critical to the future course of our country. But we need not engage in political tactics that only seek to divide the American people.

Once again, it is imperative that you withdraw this offensive advertisement.

John McCain

A brilliant politician once said " Washington will resist change, it must start from the bottom up, from the people, one person, one block, one community, one state'.
The North Carolina Republician Party should go after democratic candidates during this election period on issues. Using an African American minister is disgraceful and should not be tolerated. This week,, Newt Gingrinch referred to Rev. Wright as an American terrorist during his stunt on the Sean Hannity program. Having the mindset of " this is what the republicians do" should no longer be acceptable. This type of ad is designed to fuel the flames of hate groups in america. This is race baiting from an extremist group calling themselves the North Carolina Republican Party. Decent Americans took the time to search out full sermons and listen to the full speech.
Take a few minutes from your busy schedules and sent e-mails, telephone, or fax your thoughts to the North Carolina Republican Party, also to the politicians in your state, to your cable news network, and to the newspapers. Attach the ytube of the ministers sermons since these folks are pretending the 30 sec sound bites tells the story. Ask one other person to join you in this effort. Public lynchings of African American ministers are not acceptable. This is not 1910 in America. This was the kind of demonizing of an image that was done to Dr. Martin Luther King.

Linda Daves - the RNC party chairman of NC was on the Micheal Baisden radio show today. She did everything but call Obama a n**** along with Perdue and Moore - the white democrats running for Governor in NC. She even praised Jesse Helms as a "good man" for his stance against African Americans in NC. If you guys don't have the tape I suggest you get it ASAP because I have feeling this will be big news since Roland Martin from CNN did the interview.

Check out Michael Baisden's website:

Me and everyone I know was left speechless after this interview. The RNC is a piece of work to put it lightly.

I guess it is because I live in NC that I have predicted this type of ad for months now. Yes, NC is the home of the odious Jesse Helms, who won repeatedly despite our best efforts. NC sadly is the leader in horrific ads, and this is just the beginning for Senator Obama. I wish I could say I thought he could win the national election, I just don't think he can. I hope I'm wrong, I hope he does. This is how the Republicans operate, and we will only see more and more of this in the coming weeks. There will be things that will make your teeth hurt, and Democrats need to understand this playbook.

I hope the democrats don’t play the wimps they always are and in the General Election flood the air waves in places like Ohio and Penn with large Catholic populations with ads with Hague constantly reminding Catholic votes that McCain sought after and embraces the man who call Catholicism a "Whore Religion” As a Catholic I would never vote for McCain for this reason alone.

Better title: GOP uses Jeremiah Wright to slaughter Obama. There is only one Democrat in this race. I wouldn't be surprised if Hillary and the head of the North Carolina GOP were in the same Cult..I mean " The Family Foundation."

HANNITY: He's been — but he's been going to the church for 20 years. His pastor — the church gave a lifetime achievement award to one of the biggest racists and anti-Semites in the country, Louis Farrakhan. Would you go to a church that — where your pastor supported Louis Farrakhan?
MCCAIN: Obviously, that would not be my choice. But I do know Senator Obama. He does not share those views.
And we get sometimes — I don't — a lot of those statements I've just heard for the first time that you mentioned. But I know that, for example, I've had endorsements of some people that I didn't share their views...

JOE SCARBOROUGH: But what's the impact on voters in Arkansas? Swing voters.

HUCKABEE: I don't think we know. If this were October, I think it would have a dramatic impact. But it's not October. It's March. And I don't believe that by the time we get to October, this is gonna be the defining issue of the campaign, and the reason that people vote.

And one other thing I think we've gotta remember. As easy as it is for those of us who are white, to look back and say "That's a terrible statement!"...I grew up in a very segregated south. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm gonna be probably the only Conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you -- we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told "you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant. And you can't sit out there with everyone else. There's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office. Here's where you sit on the bus..." And you know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder and resentment. And you have to just say, I probably would too. I probably would too. In fact, I may have had more of a chip on my shoulder had it been me.

Huckabee has defended both Obama and Wright on this past controversy. McCain has said, "I know Senator Obama, and I know he does not hold these views" . Hillary - your silence on this situation is deafening, "He wouldn't have been MY PASTOR".

Huckabee previously defended Obama and Reverend Wright on this controversy, stating Obama is not responsible for other people's comments, and Reverend Wrights' comments weren't even that different than what White pastors have said. McCain had defended Obama on this as well, "I know Senator Obama and I know that these aren't his views". Hillary, um, well she says, "He wouldn't have been MY PASTOR".

Hillary wanted Wright's support during her public humiliation in the 90's. Bill Clinton had a lot of praise for Farrakhan when he wanted the Black vote. Gov Rendell had praise for Farrakhan while trying to get the Black vote --but now shooting for the racist votes, suddenly Farrakhan and Wright are thrown under the bus by the Clintons. Hillary your silence on this Republican attack against Obama is deafening, even McCain has opposed it. Hillary will do anything to win.

This is a fox video with a Catholic Priest who is defending Reverend Wright - he really makes sense. He suggests that anyone can take a 30 second clip and make anyone sound/look crazy - even Jesus if showed throwing tables over in the temple and/or telling people that they must hate their sons and daughters.

This issue is not about Jeremiah Wright, as much as it is about the connection of any generic black person being an object of fear against whites. This theme will obviously not be given any great insight in a MSM which is overwhelming white, this is a hush-hush subject that is embarrassing for some whites who don't wish to confront the realities and assumptions that underscore the REASONS the GOP believes this ad will work within the white voting populace. The GOP is saying that they believe whites fear black folks, otherwise they would not waste time stirring up these historic images.

The real question for America, is whether this ad proves them right!

And, btw, where are those white leaders in either party speaking maturely about racial relations, oh I see them, they are hidding as usual under their rocks, hoping that a non-white speaks up about the need to heal our country. What utter cowardice!!!

Rev. Wright made a statement about the ...White House. The entire speech talked about the horrible treatment towards native americans, africans, and others at the hands of laws put in place to justify cruel treatments towards people of color.
It is evident that the media, news print, republican policians, the Hillary campaign and a segment of the american people have gone to great lengths to demonize the image of Rev. Wright. No one has done 30 second sound bites about Mccains Hagee or Parsley, or about the religious group, Hillary is associated with called the "Fellowship". The leader of Hillary's religious group is Douglas E. Coe. Coe has stated his admiration for the skills of Hitler and others. No 30 sec sound bites on statements made by Coe. Just one segment on "The Fellowship", done several weeks ago on MSNBC, by Brian Williams and Andrea Mitchell , and an article written by Steven Brant on this site. This goes beyond a double standard. Where is the moral outcry about someone's religious leader who admires Hitler, (Coe), or others who have frequently made hateful statetments? Any moral outrage about Pat Robinson, Billy Graham, Jerry Farwell, and others. These ministers were the spiritual advisor of past presidents. Some American politicians and regular folks seem to reserve their indignation for the African American ministers.
I don't think our ancestors would look fondly on how we have turned 20th century tree lynchings into 21st century media lynchings. I can only speak for my ancestors.

pacats, you have to understand one thing. The only color that matters TPTB is the color...drum roll please...GREEN. If the people of color were to come together and stand as one instead of Black, Brown, Red, Yellow, our coalition would be a force to reckon with economically. It isn't in the best interest of the Capitalist to have minorities join hands and become the majority. This is what motivates racist behavior: Fear. Yes they have their neantherthals who come out with shaven heads and are more physical (violent) and misguided with their rhetoric but the TPTB know how to continue slavery while making it look fair seaming. They use the laws, amendments and their political positions. Now what's frightening to them is a intelligent Man, who happens to be Black that can form a coalition around him of all shades of America. They would take Sharpton over Obama because they know Sharpton can only get so far. They don't see him as a threat. This is why they take the focus off of trade deals by telling the "Archie Bunker types" that it is the illegals taking away your jobs not us. It wasn't NAFTA which was senior Bush initiative passed by Bill Clinton. It's the illegals. Meanwhile they stay in the background selling pieces of America away.
