There is a buzz in Republican political circles that John McCain could pick former Hewlett-Packard Chairwoman Carly Fiorina, 53, to be his vice presidential nominee.

NBC11 political analyst Larry Gerston said a potential McCain-Fiorina ticket could inspire Republicans who think the country may be on the "precipice of change."

As an ex-HP after 30 years with the company, I hope McCain comes to his senses. Carly was a disaster from the day she was hired because of Affirmative Action.

The HP board made it very clear they were looking for a minority...not the most qualified. And like all Affirmative Action hires she was unqualified and took the HP stock form the high 60s to 12 bucks and almost wrecked the whole company.

She is a lot like Hillary.

I had the privilege of working for HP and Agilent during the time that Carly was there.

She was by far the most destructive force that ever befell both enterprises. I remember how hated she was by virtually everyone in the company. When she would get on the PA system for company-wide announcements, one could hear an enormous groan from virtually everyone in the room. She manipulated press releases to bolster her own stock position to the detriment of the company as a whole. In the end, HP couldn't wait to get rid of her.

Wouldn't it be fitting for her to run with McCain.

What a bad choice for the Dem's should McCain pick her. All those disenfranchised Hillary voters, not willing to vote for Obama because they want a "woman" above all else might, if Obama wins the nomination, be tempted to pick McCain who's age question could make getting a woman in the WH very possible. BUT this is just as bad for Hillary if she should somehow destroy Obama's chances. With this McCain choice, the millions who are holding their nose while voting for Hillary because they believe she is the the only chance for getting a woman to the WH in their lifetime, might see an attractive alternative in McCain's choice. Noooooo, this is not good for either Democrat.

The one thing Dem's would have is that after 8 years, can we really afford 2, 3, or 4 more years of the same while waiting for his running mate might get in? Obama would need to press again and again his MLK quote: The urgency of now.

Yeah, great--she brought HP to the brink of destruction, so she'd be perfect to help McShame finish little Georgie's job!

Agree perfect choice for McSame, she had no clue what she was doing to HP, and it barely survived her time as CEO

I think it's going to be Schwarzenegger. All of a sudden he's out everywhere in public, acting Republican, slashing school budgets and telling the kids to share their chairs and crayons. And Maria's been out in public a lot too. That would give them 4 years to amend the constitution so he could run in 2012. Just my thought.

Interesting way to get the political debate to focus on outsourcing. Thank you, Mr. McCain.

So, Carly may have the chance to do to America what she did to HP?

Lucky us!

Great! Why wouldn't we want McCain to select as his running-mater the most ineffective computer industry CEO since the fall of DEC? She nearly destroyed HP with the Compaq merger, stood alone in propping up the ill-conceived Itanium processor architecture, and allowed Dell to leap up-market into the midrange rackmount space. I doubt she could have done much worse.

But then again, the Republican Party seems to the place where failed executives go to find a less results-oriented audience for their chronic ineptitude.

If you look, HP is doing much better than Dell. Buying Compaq made HP focus more on laptops.

Hewlett-Packard has done very well since the board of directors dismissed CEO Carly Fiorina. And they were doing pretty well before she was hired . While she was there, not so good.

"BAGGAGE???!!"

More like SHIPPING CRATES, she took over HP, removed the founders portraits in the Lobby, replaced with HER OWN, then proceeded to run the company into almost BANKRUPTCY as a know-it-all know-nothing . . . getting tossed out on her ass by the Board in a unified moment of clarity within 2 years . . . once removed, HP climbed back out of the toilet and "survived" the "brilliance of Carley".

Carley ran the business and figured how to make a MILLION Dollars . . . start out with $100 Million . . . in addition under her "leadership" HP's stock dropped 50% with billions lost on a Compaq merger . . . sounds like the right mix for Grandpa . . .
