Laura and Jenna Bush continued their media rounds to promote their new book Wednesday night with a stop on CNN's Larry King. Larry managed to eek out some political conversation from the ladies. Laura told Larry she doesn't like it when Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton speak badly about her husband. And Jenna Bush dropped a bombshell by saying she doesn't know if she'll vote for a Republican. Watch the videos of Laura and Jenna Bush and then read the excerpted transcripts below.

Laura Bush on the "pounding" her husband is getting from the Democrats:

Jenna Bush
on the possibility that she might not vote for a Republican:

Laura Bush transcript:

KING: Laura, has it been difficult putting up with all the flack that your husband has taken? And, you know, low polls, is it tough for you emotionally?

L. BUSH: Well, in some ways, of course, because I want George to be popular. But on the other hand, I know that he does what he thinks is right for our country and that he doesn't think he should try to be popular, that that's the easy way out.

But I also know -- and I've been watching the campaign, just like everybody else has, and it's been great theater -- that he takes a huge pounding from the other candidates, not all of them, not my candidate, John McCain, but I think that is -- that's demoralizing to me. I don't like that.

And for people who are running for this very office, I think it's sort of a good thing for them to think about --

KING: You don't like the way the Clinton-Obama campaign has been run, you mean?

Jenna Bush transcript:

KING: Do you have a favorite between the two, the two Democrats?

L. BUSH: My favorite is the Republican.

(LAUGHTER)

KING: Yours, too, I would imagine.

J. BUSH: I don't know.

KING: A-ha. J. BUSH: But, I mean, you know --

KING: Are you open to --

J. BUSH: Yes, of course. I mean, who isn't open to learning about the candidates? But, I mean, and I'm sure everybody is like that. But I really -- I honestly have been too busy with books to really pay that much attention.

L. BUSH: No, no, the way they talk about the president.

KING: Oh.

L. BUSH: For somebody who wants to be the president, I think maybe it's a good idea not to talk about the president that way. But anyway, that's my advice to them.

Just need to mention that Laura Bush slapped Jenna on the cheek when Jenna said that she was thinking about not necessarily voting for McCain. Jenna looked hurt and humiliated, and her cheek was bright red. I saw only the clip on cable news, so don't know whether LK soothed Jenna. At the time he turned away and seemed to laugh. There is no mention of the slap in the transcript.

"newddle" has been cutting-and-pasting this "Laura slapped Jenna" thing all over multiple websites and forums (even ones having nothing to do with the interview).

I'd bet even odds she's not even registered to vote.

Well let's see, 9/11 conspirator, launched two illegal wars, killed over a million innocent people, ruined the economy of our country, I don't know what kind of treatment you [Laura] should expect for him [Bush]. Rigged elections and on and on.

Ah , so Bush created 9/11, Afghanistan was "illegal", he himself killed a "million" innocent people, "ruined" our economy. "Rigged" the elections... either you have fantastic proof of this that the New York Times just couldn't stand to publicize lest they ruin their favorite person Bush, or you have been listening to too many al-Qaeda speeches. Then again, even al-Qaeda says they are upset that 9/11 conspirators are trying to steal their thunder, go figure.

How does that blood money spend pal?

9/11 was an inside job.

"From a Navy Vet no less..."

What is that supposed to mean? I was working in the intel community at the time. The same community that can hardly keep a secret from hitting the front page. To think that the biggest conspiracy would be without any "insider" spilling the beans is simply ridiculous. truther as they call themselves are giving the government way, way too much credit thinking they could pull off detonating the world trade center at the very same time 19 terrorists were flying planes into buildings with nobody speaking out about it. Elvis crash landing a flying saucer into the lochness monster has more plausibility than this fairytale.

And it's Sun Tzu, not Tsu... what he wrote was:
If you know the enemy
and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a
hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy,
for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will
succumb in every battle.

Care to appear even more clueless about which you speak or would you like to go on?

I'd say the NY Times has been pretty good to Dubya. They held off on that warrantless wire tapping story for a year until after he'd won re-election. Who knows what else they're keeping back.

"the NSA is authorized by executive order to monitor, without warrants, phone calls, e-mails, Internet activity, and text messaging, and other communication involving any party believed by the NSA to be outside the U.S., even if the other end of the communication lies within the U.S. "

"Gonzales stated that the program authorizes warrantless intercepts where the government "has a reasonable basis to conclude that one party to the communication is a member of al Qaeda, affiliated with al Qaeda, or a member of an organization affiliated with al Qaeda, or working in support of al Qaeda." and that one party to the conversation is "outside of the United States".

"Attorney General Alberto Gonzales confirmed the existence of the program, first reported in a December 16, 2005 article in The New York Times. The Times had posted the exclusive story on their website the night before, after learning that the Bush administration was considering seeking a Pentagon Papers-style court injunction to block its publication."

I suppose the conservative New York Times is sitting on hard evidence that Bush orchestrated 9/11 also... please, do you people do any fact checking or is this just off the cuff conspiracy banter?

I think people are expecting too much of Jenna Bush - she's promoting a book and in the middle of planning her wedding and has to be careful what she says.

I think it's wonderful that the kids of presidents can rise above all the negativity and politics and be friends and speak well of each other - Jenna and Chelsea.

They've both grown up to be fine young ladies - give them credit for heaven's sake.

And, it's wonderful that she's thinking for herself. Face it, she had to be very careful in what she said or the media would be all over her - because today that's what the "inept" media do.

The Bush have to be proud of Jenna as she seems to be a wonderful person. I like the fact that she hasn't made her mind up for who she will vote for. If she's thinking of voting for Obama, I think she will come to the same conclusion I did, I was intending to vote for him but there's too many negatives that surrounds him. One, of course, is Pastor Wright as he is a racist. Wright recents interviews on PBS, he says he speaks as a pastor & Obama speaks like a politician & says what he has to say to get elected. Sounds like Obama does share Wrights views.

MyThought, that was a very astute observation. I agree. Both of those young ladies have become very intelligent, very independent thinkers. I don't care for either of their fathers, but they have turned out ok.

And to Jenna, how about "What do you look for in a candidate, and what issues are important to you?"

Actually Jenna has become a school teacher while Chelsea took a $125,000/yr job right out of college from a friend of her parents. Jenna also worked in Africa, exposing herself to kidnapping and death. Hmmm....who has the better character? Give me a break...the media asks one hard question of Chelsea...and everyone says" leave the child alone"...She's hitting 30 y.o..

How quaint !...while our soldiers ar fighting and dying in Iraq, Laura and Jenna are making wedding plans. She should be in Iraq fighting side by side with the soldiers over there ,in a war that her father got us into needlessly.....I'm apalled!.. I refuse to watch that circus! CNN is slowly going down the toilet as far as I'm concerened.I no longer watch them, ABC or Fox and if it was not for Keith on MSNBC I wouldn't be watching them either. The MSM has become like a dirty reality show, with lots of scandal and little news!

In an alternate universe somewhere out there, the 30+ coalition countries continued to do nothing about Iraq for an additional 6 years tacked on to the pre-existing 11 years of pussyfooting, Saddam successfully bribed Germany, France and Russian to lift sanctions, Iraq acquired then gave terrorists a weaponized small pox virus, terrorists then infect 2 million people, and the Huffington post of this alternate universe is full of Truthers claiming Bush "knew" about the danger and did nothing just to create chaos in the alternate USA a reap the financial reward of bio-med companies creating vaccines.
Sounds pretty ridiculous, doesn't it?

Even Reagan though he was an idiot way back then. Read below from his diaries.

"A moment I've been dreading. George brought his n'er-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida; the one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I'll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they'll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work."

Laura Bush is a vacant drone. Whatever.

As for Jenna, I actually have compassion for the kid. I don't find anything particularly likable about her, but I do feel compassion for a young woman raised by such a despicable father figure like Bush. As privileged and insulated as she might be, she will inherit the world he has created, and no amount of money will spare her ALL of the repercussions (many, yes, due to her wealth, but not all) of a psyche scarred by enduring a sociopath father. As we all will, she too will live with the horror of his legacy.
