Lucky for GOP presidential candidate John McCain, The Associated Press has a report on his New Orleans visit that omits what he and his supporters have said about the city. McCain is in New Orleans on what he calls his forgotten areas tour.

John McCain toured still hurricane-damaged areas of New Orleans and declared that if the disaster had happened on his watch, he would have immediately landed his plane at the nearest Air Force base...

...McCain was unsparing in his criticism of the Bush administration. He said Congress must share some of the blame, too.

Drawing a sharp contrast to President Bush, McCain said he would have landed his plane "at the nearest Air Force Base and come over personally."

But on the day Hurricane Katrina actually ravaged New Orleans, Senator McCain wasn't far off from President Bush. In fact, the two were standing right next to each other. Check out the slideshow of the two celebrating McCain's birthday on the tarmac.

While traveling in New Orleans today, McCain told voters that such a disaster of government response "will never happen again in this country." And yet, the Democratic National Committee points out that McCain voted against relief measures for Katrina victims multiple times, as well as voting against an investigation into the failures of the government response. McCain also voted against providing additional funding for first responders' communication systems, despite claiming today:

We know that we had a situation where first responders were unable to communicate with each other. Where government agencies were getting information by watching cable television, rather than having a flow of information themselves.

As for solutions, John McCain told reporters he didn't know if he'd rebuild the lower 9th ward as president. "That is why we need to go back is to have a conversation about what to do -rebuild it, tear it down, you know, whatever it is," he said.

While he was in Lousiana
Think Progress reports:

Pastor John Hagee -- whose endorsement Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said this past Sunday he was "glad to have" -- told NPR's Terry Gross that "Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans." "New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God," Hagee said, because "there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came."

McCain first dodged the issue of Hagee when he brought up by a New Orleans voter during a town hall. Watch here.

McCain later told reporters the comments were "nonsense" no less than eight times, despite saying this weekend that he still is glad to have Hagee's endorsement.

It's nonsense, it's nonsense, it's nonsense, it's nonsense, it's nonsense. I dont have anything additional to say. It's nonsense, it's nonsense, it's nonsense, I don't have anything more to say...it's nonsense. I reject it categorically.

McCain has still not rejected John Hagee's endorsement.

Let's see........We have a choice between an habitual liar ( Landed under fire in Bosnia ), a smooth-talking rhetorican who consorts with racist fanatics for twenty years and an unrepentent old time radical, or a near-senile old toot whose policy course no one can discern, except for a weekly outrage, involving religious fanatics, "bomb-bomb-Iran," or women being kept in their places. YAAAAAAAAAA.

Well, reporters did ask John McCain today during his trip to New Orleans about Rev. John Hagee’s remarks that Hurricane Katrina was punishment for the sins of New Orleans:

“It’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense. I dont have anything additional to say. It’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, it’s nonsense, I don’t have anything more to say….it’s nonsense. I reject it categorically.”

Ah, that is rich. Wright to speak at the National Press Club to blame them for hating America and mcwar’s kook is exposed too.

The only sane choice is Clinton.

She wins the electoral votes easlily.

Its a no brainer.

Yeah, a no brainer to vote for someone who:

lies as easily as she breathes.
uses fear and scare tactics to win votes.
threatens Pelosi.
says "as far as I know' when she DOES REALLY know.
has multiple personalities (I'm honored, shame on you, the choirs sing).
doesn't have a consistent message.
has top surrogate emphatically praising Farrakhan, yet attacks Obama getting unsolicited praise
praises republican opponent, WHILE bashing and disrespecting democratic opponent.
has surrogates that call people Judas because they decided to endorse elsewhere.
uses Rovian tactics like she knows it by heart,
has a campaign that's constantly falling apart- physically and financially.
has a chief strategist making backroom deals with the Colombians
has a spouse making deals with Colombians and the Chinese.
praised and fought for NAFTA, then opposes it when running for potus.
is involved with Peter Paul, Vince Foster, Vinod Gupta and Whitewater scandals
has a philandering husband who cheated on her MANY times, and LIED to the American public
accepts the endorsement of the vast right wing conspiracy
can't pay her debts to vendors who need their money
never discusses gay right in mixed audiences, only with a gay audience................

The list goes on and on and on. Yeah, that is a no brainer alright.

To be fair, what is the proper response when the President and prominent figure in your party brings you a birthday cake? I like cake, I'd eat it too.

Just another photo op to say 'I really care for people in need.'

By the clock or calendar on the wall, this is like 3 years late.

This was an incident that occurred in Sep 2005. People are still in need of assistance and all you come with are cameras and promises that you will address these needs as soon as you are elected POTUS.

His presence is more of an insult than a move toward a solution. It would have been more effective if he had stayed home and sent the money.

I would never vote for McCain. Even though I am heartsick about how Obama is treated, I am still for him. I may stay home on election day if Hillary is the candidate, but I could never vote for McCain. Have you all noticed when McCain does not know he is on camera, he really does look old and vulnerable. He manages to look somewhat perky when he is before the cameras. I am 78 years old and have noticed changes in myself the last 8-10 years, and the changes are not positive. There is no way I could ever vote for anyone who will be 72 when sworn into office, and 80 if he serves 2 terms.
The main thing I have against Hillary is that I am scared of a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton dynasty. By the time Hillary serves 2 terms, it will be time for Jeb Bush to run, and then if we're lucky, Chelsea can run.

If you favor the policies that Obama supports, rather than just being enamored of his personality, then it would be foolish for you to stay at home if Clinton is the Democratic nominee. Clinton and Obama are not very far apart on most policy issues. McCain, on the other hand, has made it clear that his stance on a number of policy issues is different from that of Clinton and Obama. Staying home on election day rather than voting for the Democratic candidate, whoever he or she may be, is the functional equivalent of helping McCain win, which essentially is a repudiation of the policies that Obama and Clinton both support.

If you can't vote for HRC, at least get out and vote for Democratic reps and senators. But, keep in mind that if Crash McCain gets in the WH we will lose at least two more seats in SCOTUS and we will be in the same no-win situation we've been in with Bush. HRC CAN be controlled - if she wanders too close to DLC/Republicant positions she can be threatened with removal of party support for any program that is near and dear to her heart.

Then your entire family, friends, church, etc. will have blood on their hands when 4,000 more Americans die in Iraq over the NEXT four years. I'm seriously wondering about the vain, infantile "voters" who think this is all about them. It's about the country, and the world, ending the war, putting BushCo out of business any way that it can be done--not going off to bed to cry! I guess if you, your friends, your family and church, ALL have no loved one in the military, then a weak, pouting, submissive "stay home on election day" virtual vote for McCain won't cause your conscience any trouble. If you would stay home, let McCain win, instead of Hillary, whose feet we can hold to the fire until she burns, if necessary, then this country is made up of people just not worth saving. What a shame. I'm so disappointed in so many of you for saying this. You sound EXACTLY like Hillary supporters.

Now THIS is the guy for whom a goodly number of both Obama supporters and Clinton supporters who post on this website say they will cast their ballot in November if THEIR candidate (Obama or Clinton) does not get the Democratic presidential nod. Can those who have articulated such arrogant madness to date STILL say the same thing NOW? If so, you people truly are SICK!

I'm not a fan of either BHO or HRC, but I'll vote for either one of them, whichever gets the Dem's prez nomination, in November before I'd vote for that godforsaken nutcase alcolholic John McCain!

They need to shut the whole cess pool of a city down, and not waste any more money down there. An other hurricane will happen and all of what they are doing will be for a complete waste. Shut it down!!!

Do you suggest we shut down North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas also? Because they are going to get hit by hurricanes.

Maybe we should shut down California because they have earth quakes and fires. Maybe we should also shut down Washington state because they had a volcano.

I take it you must be a Hagee puppet with your reference to cess pool.

Vige, we still HAVE a volcano - in fact, four of them. We were going to shut the whole state down but our plans were, originally, to relocate to Nawlins. Now, we're looking at central Pennsylvania...

Easy for him to say now. Republican economics will assure us of more Katrinas and the will continue to show utter disdain for citizens who suffer, suffered and are suffering now. He's a Republican, don't let this fool you. They don't care about black people and they don't care about the middle class and they sure don't care about poor people. 30 years and they have destroyed just about everything on the planet.

Your post brought to mind Warren Beatty's "obscenity" speech from the movie "Bulworth".

"We got Americans with families can't even buy a meal,
ask a brother who's been down-sized if he's gettin' any deal?
Or a white boy bustin' ass 'til they put him in his grave.
He ain't gotta be black boy to be livin' like a slave."

"Rich people have always stayed on top by dividing white people from colored people.
White people got more in common with colored people than they do with rich people."

For my money, this is the most important political movie since "Network". If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to do so.
