Well, gee what are you going to do, eh? States are states and so are state parties.

And so the North Carolina Republican Party has decided for its own internal reasons to defy its presumptive presidential nominee and run an anti-Obama ad -- or at least say it's going to run the ad so the news media will run it endlessly for them for free-- that Sen. John McCain and RNC head Mike Duncan say should be killed.

I hope someone is keeping track of which North Carolina TV stations are willing to broadcast the smear ad.

I want to be able to boycott their other (commercial) advertisers -- and advertise my own boycott with others.

Obama needs to have an ad with McCain's simple response from the Fox interview, "I know Senator Obama. I know he does not share those views"

And then add Huckabee's response how he felt Obama shouldn't be accountable for what other people say; and then when he went on to defend Rev Wrights' view--stating after being raised in the segregated South and if (Huckabee) was treated the way Blacks were, he (Huckabee would have a chip on his shoulder or worse). Obama use McCain and Huckabee's comments to defend you - how sweet to have two Republican Presidential Candidates opposing the Republican attack ad.

Isnt NC where McCain took the biggest hits of the 2000 campaign against Bush? Isnt this where his "black baby" smear came into play most prominently.

Maybe they just dont give a damn about McCain's opinion on the ad.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:51 AM on 04/25/2008

I live in that state. Trust me racism in still raging there

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:26 PM on 04/24/2008

The GOP is so hellbent on getting Hillary the Democratic nomination they will run their campaign using the same strategy Hillary has used against Obama. Or is it that Hillary has use the Republican strategy all along to run her campaign???

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:11 PM on 04/24/2008

Pretty slick move on McCain's part -- he goes public "claiming" he wants the ad pulled attempting to appear he's on high ground, while the ad does what's it's intended to do. He's really getting bang for the buck, helps Hillary in NC while taking dirty shots at Obama. A two-fer!! Also, pretty clear just how desperate the republican's are to run against Hillary they've now resorted to helping her.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:59 PM on 04/24/2008

This is either a state party in defiance of their presumptive party leader, or a "wink, wink" between McCain and the state party. Makes no difference. Either way the backfire potential for the Republicans is pretty high.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:52 PM on 04/24/2008

McCain does protests too much.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:35 PM on 04/24/2008

The south never changes. They are nothing but a bunch of hood wearing, white racists.
I guess if I had screwed blacks over the years I would be afraid too.

ignorance of the law is no excuse.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:25 PM on 04/24/2008

Good way to win over the votes from the South!!!

Come one folks - insulting certain demographics will not garner votes. USE YOUR HEADS when you come here to comment!!!

If you feel that certain demographics are ignorant of political facts, then for goodness sakes, enlighten them, but do not insult them!!!

Why didn't Obama win Pennsylvania??

I'll say it again,

A white man with a penny hates nothing more than a black man with a nickel...

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:54 AM on 04/24/2008

Obama has been running his campaign NOT ON RACE. You Obama supporters who come here and make comments with racial connotations are only harming Obama's campaign. Take the high road - stop with this!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:19 PM on 04/24/2008

Not true!!!
Why is everybody forgetting whom Obama is running again?
Bill Clintons good will is rubbing off on Sen. Clinton among the electorate.

How many people do you know that would win a big Dem state against Hillary Clinton?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:52 PM on 04/24/2008

against that is.

...and can win a big Dem...

The N.C. GOP attack ad does not reflect North Carolina values. There are several subliminal coded race messages lodged in the ad . I can appreciate the difficult decisions regarding selection of news, ads, and the pressures involved in those management decisions. This morning our local WRAL station decided not to air the NC GOP attack ad at a critical time in our national and state electoral process. They should be applauded. I" m suggesting that other news outlets follow their lead. The image is in the public domain.

The Rev. Wright ad as well as the one about gangs is not just about politics. There are several subliminal coded race messages lodged in the ads. These stations are not merely informing the public but they are unwittingly contributing to stirring up racial animus in our community. The ads do not bring out the best in us.

Also I am have asked Senator Dole and Senator Burr not to contribute to stirring up racial animosity. I want both of them to join Senator McCain and the National GOP in demand ing that the N.C. GOP attack ads be pulled. The Clinton campaign has been conspicuously slight on this issue. Race is in the campaign because Senator Obama is an African American, but racist tentacles do not have to be ingrained in this campaign. We are better than this as a nation, as North Carolinians.

I" m asking them to make an ethical and not a political or commercial decision.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:46 AM on 04/24/2008

Here is my suggestion for how Barack Obama should handle the North Carolina smear ad.
He should run an ad telling everyone that this type of distraction is exactly what he was talking about in San Francisco. The Republicans are running an ad, focusing on an issue that may be emotional, but it is not going to help improve the life of the average person. The Republicans are talking about Rev. Wright because they cannot talk about jobs, they cannot talk about the economy, they cannot talk about improving your life or leveling the playing field for the average person. They want you to look at Rev. Wright to distract you from focusing on things that could actually help the average person. They want you to look away from the issues that are so difficult for you to deal with everyday, and look at something that will take your eye off of the ball.
I'm clearly not an advertising professional, but I'm sure that a good pro could do something effective with this theme.

Seems that Clinton is the newest member of the Republican party. Is that because they feel Clinton is easier to defeat .Or is it because both McCain and Clinton both feed at the same table. The Wash. insiders and pacs that contribute too both. When it comes time will they be with you or those that payed for the tune. . only one candidate has not already been financed by the lobbiest. Obama

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:21 AM on 04/24/2008

Great idea!
Now if we can only get Obama to do it...

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:48 AM on 04/24/2008

The AD is true, Obama sat there for 20 years and listened to that filth. Hillary Clinton claimed she was shot at by snipers and it's true there were no snipers. John McCain said the massive tax cuts for the rich were unfair, then he changes his mind and says the opposite. These people are all flawed, some more than others. To the Televison stations Obama is nothing more than a marketing demographic, he sells to the target audience. Remember the song from CABERET "Money Makes The World Go Round"?
The same is true for Politics, we don't elect great leaders we elect the product of great marketing campaigns.

How very convenient for Hillary.......

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:23 AM on 04/24/2008

Rev. Wright could take some of the heat off these attacks by making a public statement or something. Why is he so quiet and allowing his comments to hurt Obama?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:20 AM on 04/24/2008

I think coming out and making a public statement in conjuction with the Obama camp would go a long way in mitigating the problem.

Obama also needs to be seems taking the pledge of allegeance. It is what people see that affects their thinking the most.

McCain proved himself to be either completely mad or an idiot in his comments about the mmanufacturing jobs not coming back. Of course they wont come back if you dont do something to stop their export. He wants people to train for IT jobs instead of restoring the manufacturing in this country. This is madness. IT jobs are being outsourced to India and China as fast as corporations are able to teach them their code. Almost every programmer I know is in the middle of training an Indian to do his job so he can be laid off. Those jobs which are not being moved offshore, they are attempting to fill with H1-B applicants. Why? because qualified help is not available locally? no. because H1-B's work cheaper.
Believe it or not, we are in an economic war. This country achieved greatness on its manufacturing, and it is essential to our future that we both return that to our country, and defend it rigorously. As Sun Tsu says,
Defend your strengths.

re: the article above, of course they ran it after he disapproved. That was the point. To allow him to appear to have taken the high road.

How come when a movie with Tom Hanks is made about why Afghanistan fell into control of religious crazies and poverty because we wouldn't even give them a dime of aid after fighting our war against the Russians for us, no one cares. I didn't see the NCRNC out there getting pissed in the 80's when the US abandoned that country, in fact it could be said that because the f-ing Republicans were too God damn cheep and unsympathetic to our ally that THEY led to the events of 9/11. So they condemn someone's preacher who called it like it is?

Did anyone bother to tell the NCRNC that we dropped both nuclear bombs in Japan and killed THOUSANDS of people instantly, and considered it a test. We were testing them out...on human beings. Yet they feel no remorse our country did this, only a man of God and the scientists who made the bomb did apparently.

We live in a country that is known as the melting pot of the world. A country borne on the backs of millions of immigrants. Yet, we still can't appreciate one another fully and racial and ethnic divides exist. In a heavily multi-racial state does the NCRNC stop to think for one second that a lifetime of discrimination could effect someone?

I hope they feel really comfortable in their elected positions because this is not good politics, and will not bare well for them.

Let us all remember that this hit job on Obama, along with the Floyd Brown piece, is coming up during the Primary as opposed to the General Election season. The purpose of these ads are to benefit Hillary Clinton in North Carolina. not John McCain ... This points out the threat that Obama poses to the GOP's election hopes in November, otherwise they wouldn't be working to derail his candidacy in NC now.

Also Hillary doesn't seem to mind having the GOP carry water for her financially depressed campaign in NC with these ads ... just Senator Clintons way of reaching across the aisle, I guess.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:09 AM on 04/24/2008

Has Hillary denounced this yet? McCain and the RNC did yesterday. Where is her leadership?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:15 AM on 04/24/2008

Hillary may be running as a democrat but I tell you deep in side she hold the republican idiology. I bet you this Ad has been cordinated with Hillary's campaign.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:21 AM on 04/24/2008

She's no republican, Hillary is a democrat but not a loony leftist democrat. This BS you are spouting helped Al Gore lose in 2000. When the loony left said there's no difference between Gore and Bush. After 7 years, can you leftist nuts realize there is a difference between moderate democrats and republicans. If, you can't then we as democrats will be in the wildness for 4 more years. Whether clinton or Obama is the nominee. If, we can't pull working class whites into the fold it's over until these republicans take us back into a depression.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:40 AM on 04/24/2008

Trace8089, it doesn't matter what Hillary says, it matters what she and her husband have actually done during their time in the public arena ... the Clinton successes have been Republican in nature. The Clintons talk a good game in terms of progressive populism but I have no evidence they take what the say to heart.

You can hammer "Leftist nuts" all you want but the nation is currently in the toilet due to the good works of centrists and conservatives over the past 28 years ... that's not just words, that is historical fact.

In terms of "working class whites" I say this ... if someone is afflicted with a wasting disease you can humor them with words they may prefer to hear, or try to cure their ill, which may cause discomfort ... I think people, in general, prefer to see their situation improve, so playing down to "working class whites" doesn't improve their condition.

The DLC, Clinton's wing of the Democratic Party, is a Republican Trojan Horse ... If you look at the major successes of the Clinton Administration they were all extensions of the Reagan/Bush legislative agenda.

I can attest to the fact that it was a open secret, when she was Mayor of San Francisco, that Dianne Feinstein was a closet Republican. In the 70s in San Francisco there was definitely a glass ceiling for Republican politicians in the City by the Bay. It isn't surprising to see Feinstein as a member of the DLC, nor the current Mayor, Gavin Newsom.

And don't forget, that raging Democrat, Joe Lieberman, was the former Chairman of the DLC ... it really all fits if one is to look at the DLC's place in Democratic Party politics.

McCain cant control the GOP so he cant control the country. After this ad there is no way that Obama can agree with public financing, Just think of the swift boat ads and realize, Obama needs to have more then public money to fight the BS.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:09 AM on 04/24/2008

He's in bed with the state GOP. This is good cop/ bad cop. The southern strategy begins. The republicans aren't stupid. They know Obama has the nomination unless he implodes and that's unlikely. With his campaign being so cautious, no re-votes or debates where he can have another bad night.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:45 AM on 04/24/2008

Why is this a surprise to anyone? Pundits have been saying for months that they would use Wright against Obama just like this. He needs to be ready for it and have a comeback just like with the swiftboats. He can't let the GOP define him. To call the GOP racists and unfair is not going to take one vote away from them. McCain hopes to get about 15% of the "racist" vote. The only reason McCain came out against this is for him to look like he takes the high road while the GOP takes the heat. It's all show. More and more of these will come out and McCain will come out and scold them, but they'll keep coming.

This is the "Perfect Example" of politics of "distractions".....while bigots are getting worked up about this man that lives in another state...taxes are going up, gas prices are going up and the cost of food is going up BUT let's focus on this instead. Obama is trying to shine a light on the foolishness that takes over election seasons and they are really proving him RIGHT.

While the talk radio shows are telling people to interfer with the democrats primary, they are pulling in big paychecks while the ones using their gas to go to the polls to interfer are barely making ends meet BUT this makes sense to them. At some point I "hope" people decided to vote in their own best interest.

One local station (Raleigh, NC), WRAL, has decided that it will NOT air this ad.
Hopefully the other stations will take the high road and follow WRAL's lead.
it is interesting to note, that this is the station on which NC's former Senator Jesse Helms got his start as a commentator.
Bravo, WRAL!

I'm not ordinarily very paranoid, but something here does not pass the smell test. I hate to even think this but could it be that;
1. HRC knows she can't win this, and knows that BO will be the nominee.
2. She also knows McCain will be a one term president because of his age.
3. With the help of the RNC and republican 527's she will bloody Obama so badly that Mc Cain
will win
4. In 2012 she will be back 'ready to screw us from day one'.
What do I base this on? Her attack ads and her talking points in PA, have Karl Roves fingerprints on them (the master of ad hominem attack) as does this ad. She is very 'carefully' framing her win in PA in such a way that the 'message' is that 'this black guy can't get white votes'. HRC has recently made alot of 'new friends' in Fox news and with Richard Mellon Scaife. I hope someone will read this, and prove me wrong because I do not want to believe this about a democrat.
