Well, gee what are you going to do, eh? States are states and so are state parties.

And so the North Carolina Republican Party has decided for its own internal reasons to defy its presumptive presidential nominee and run an anti-Obama ad -- or at least say it's going to run the ad so the news media will run it endlessly for them for free-- that Sen. John McCain and RNC head Mike Duncan say should be killed.

I hope someone is keeping track of which North Carolina TV stations are willing to broadcast the smear ad.

I want to be able to boycott their other (commercial) advertisers -- and advertise my own boycott with others.

Obama needs to have an ad with McCain's simple response from the Fox interview, "I know Senator Obama. I know he does not share those views"

And then add Huckabee's response how he felt Obama shouldn't be accountable for what other people say; and then when he went on to defend Rev Wrights' view--stating after being raised in the segregated South and if (Huckabee) was treated the way Blacks were, he (Huckabee would have a chip on his shoulder or worse). Obama use McCain and Huckabee's comments to defend you - how sweet to have two Republican Presidential Candidates opposing the Republican attack ad.

Isnt NC where McCain took the biggest hits of the 2000 campaign against Bush? Isnt this where his "black baby" smear came into play most prominently.

Maybe they just dont give a damn about McCain's opinion on the ad.

The GOP is so hellbent on getting Hillary the Democratic nomination they will run their campaign using the same strategy Hillary has used against Obama. Or is it that Hillary has use the Republican strategy all along to run her campaign???

Pretty slick move on McCain's part -- he goes public "claiming" he wants the ad pulled attempting to appear he's on high ground, while the ad does what's it's intended to do. He's really getting bang for the buck, helps Hillary in NC while taking dirty shots at Obama. A two-fer!! Also, pretty clear just how desperate the republican's are to run against Hillary they've now resorted to helping her.

This is either a state party in defiance of their presumptive party leader, or a "wink, wink" between McCain and the state party. Makes no difference. Either way the backfire potential for the Republicans is pretty high.

The south never changes. They are nothing but a bunch of hood wearing, white racists.
I guess if I had screwed blacks over the years I would be afraid too.

ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Good way to win over the votes from the South!!!

Come one folks - insulting certain demographics will not garner votes. USE YOUR HEADS when you come here to comment!!!

If you feel that certain demographics are ignorant of political facts, then for goodness sakes, enlighten them, but do not insult them!!!

Why didn't Obama win Pennsylvania??

I'll say it again,

A white man with a penny hates nothing more than a black man with a nickel...

Not true!!!
Why is everybody forgetting whom Obama is running again?
Bill Clintons good will is rubbing off on Sen. Clinton among the electorate.

How many people do you know that would win a big Dem state against Hillary Clinton?

Obama has been running his campaign NOT ON RACE. You Obama supporters who come here and make comments with racial connotations are only harming Obama's campaign. Take the high road - stop with this!!!

The N.C. GOP attack ad does not reflect North Carolina values. There are several subliminal coded race messages lodged in the ad . I can appreciate the difficult decisions regarding selection of news, ads, and the pressures involved in those management decisions. This morning our local WRAL station decided not to air the NC GOP attack ad at a critical time in our national and state electoral process. They should be applauded. I" m suggesting that other news outlets follow their lead. The image is in the public domain.

The Rev. Wright ad as well as the one about gangs is not just about politics. There are several subliminal coded race messages lodged in the ads. These stations are not merely informing the public but they are unwittingly contributing to stirring up racial animus in our community. The ads do not bring out the best in us.

Also I am have asked Senator Dole and Senator Burr not to contribute to stirring up racial animosity. I want both of them to join Senator McCain and the National GOP in demand ing that the N.C. GOP attack ads be pulled. The Clinton campaign has been conspicuously slight on this issue. Race is in the campaign because Senator Obama is an African American, but racist tentacles do not have to be ingrained in this campaign. We are better than this as a nation, as North Carolinians.

I" m asking them to make an ethical and not a political or commercial decision.

Here is my suggestion for how Barack Obama should handle the North Carolina smear ad.
He should run an ad telling everyone that this type of distraction is exactly what he was talking about in San Francisco. The Republicans are running an ad, focusing on an issue that may be emotional, but it is not going to help improve the life of the average person. The Republicans are talking about Rev. Wright because they cannot talk about jobs, they cannot talk about the economy, they cannot talk about improving your life or leveling the playing field for the average person. They want you to look at Rev. Wright to distract you from focusing on things that could actually help the average person. They want you to look away from the issues that are so difficult for you to deal with everyday, and look at something that will take your eye off of the ball.
I'm clearly not an advertising professional, but I'm sure that a good pro could do something effective with this theme.

Great idea!
Now if we can only get Obama to do it...

The AD is true, Obama sat there for 20 years and listened to that filth. Hillary Clinton claimed she was shot at by snipers and it's true there were no snipers. John McCain said the massive tax cuts for the rich were unfair, then he changes his mind and says the opposite. These people are all flawed, some more than others. To the Televison stations Obama is nothing more than a marketing demographic, he sells to the target audience. Remember the song from CABERET "Money Makes The World Go Round"?
The same is true for Politics, we don't elect great leaders we elect the product of great marketing campaigns.

Seems that Clinton is the newest member of the Republican party. Is that because they feel Clinton is easier to defeat .Or is it because both McCain and Clinton both feed at the same table. The Wash. insiders and pacs that contribute too both. When it comes time will they be with you or those that payed for the tune. . only one candidate has not already been financed by the lobbiest. Obama

Rev. Wright could take some of the heat off these attacks by making a public statement or something. Why is he so quiet and allowing his comments to hurt Obama?

I think coming out and making a public statement in conjuction with the Obama camp would go a long way in mitigating the problem.

Obama also needs to be seems taking the pledge of allegeance. It is what people see that affects their thinking the most.

McCain proved himself to be either completely mad or an idiot in his comments about the mmanufacturing jobs not coming back. Of course they wont come back if you dont do something to stop their export. He wants people to train for IT jobs instead of restoring the manufacturing in this country. This is madness. IT jobs are being outsourced to India and China as fast as corporations are able to teach them their code. Almost every programmer I know is in the middle of training an Indian to do his job so he can be laid off. Those jobs which are not being moved offshore, they are attempting to fill with H1-B applicants. Why? because qualified help is not available locally? no. because H1-B's work cheaper.
Believe it or not, we are in an economic war. This country achieved greatness on its manufacturing, and it is essential to our future that we both return that to our country, and defend it rigorously. As Sun Tsu says,
Defend your strengths.

re: the article above, of course they ran it after he disapproved. That was the point. To allow him to appear to have taken the high road.
