Not very "progressive" at all.

More like intolerant anti-free speech thugs.

What if it was a liberal darling like Krugman? You'd say it was mean and wrong, right?

Pure hypocrisy.

For somebody who strongly supported a war that would leave millions of people devastated, a pie in the face is the least these kids could do.
Read Naomi Klein's Shock Doctrine.

Ha! Loved it. He should have fell. That would have been funnier.

I see this as an intolerant act against free speech. Friedman is a writer and intellectual, whetehr you agree with him or not. People who menace writers for their views are little more than thugs.

What's next? Burning Friedman's books?

For shame.

Regardless of how anyone feels about Mr. Friedman, this behavior is unacceptable. Tolerating and applauding it is not okay either.

After helping to justify the premise for the Iraq war, and placating people into believing that the aftermath would be a cakewalk, If all Friedman gets is a pie in the face once in a while, It's a hell of a lot less than what all the US soldiers, their families, and all the Iraqi people must suffer as the result of his duplicity.

Bush whores ike Friedman will get more and more of this kind of treatment in the future. Once on top of the world....permanent Republican majority indeed,,,,now they're seen for the weasels they were, and are.

Friedman was a huge disappointment for me because of his enthusiastic support for the invasion of Iraq. I used to believe he knew the ME well when in fact he didn't know beans about it. However, this little trick was uncalled for and the perpetrators should be punished.

its just a pie. its just a face. no one was harmed.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:23 PM on 04/24/2008

Actually some people were harmed by it. All the students who took the time to attend the lecture because they wanted to hear what he had to say. I can't believe people here are defending people who act like spoiled brats although there are many people in this country who can't even afford to go to college or if they do then they have to work also and don't have time for lectures. Those students should be grateful for what they have but instead they're just spoiled brats with an entitlement complex. Nobody is saying they can't disagree with Friedman but they should respect the right of other students to hear him speak.

I'm not a Republican but many "liberals" are worse because they try to hide their true nature when in reality they don't really care about other humans or the environment or helping anyone. They're just spoiled brats who want attention.

Ok. I agree with you that these kids shouldn't be praised or defended. What they did was incredibly childish for people of their age and, presumably, intelligence.

However, I find it really weird that you characterize them as having an "entitlement complex" and imply they don't have to work their way through Brown. You don't know anything about those kids.

And then you go on to say they just want attention. Yet another unsupported claim. You seem to think that you can judge someone completely by one act. In reality, the world is diverse and people do things for different reasons.

I also can't believe it. A university is a place for discussion and debate with ideas.

Vandals and thugs have no place there.

It just shows you how ugly, crass and dumbed-down America has become during the Bush years.

Nicole, get an education. The more you know, the more you'll be a democrat. It's proven, the more educated you are the greater chance you'll oppose this GOP. And you will most likely not smoke either. Don't trash the educated, we'll need them to get us back on track after all the destruction these 2 crooks have caused in 9 short years.

Wow. I'm sorry the pie-throwers shut him down. He should have cleaned himself up as much as possible, in public, then continued with his talk. I disapprove of bullying tactics, and while I don't necessarily agree with some things Friedman says, it's wrong what they did to him. Whatever their problem with him, they should have been verbal or used signs instead of physical assault. Can you imagine what might have happened if the projectile was a water balloon? A rock? A bullet?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:21 PM on 04/24/2008

I agree. It's one step to rocks or bottles.

A sign would have been verbal dissent.

These kids are jerks, plain and simple.

Good point. I mean, what if the projectile had been a rocket, a boulder, or a race car? Or what about a shark with a laser on its head? The mind reels at the possibilities.

Wasn't it exposed that the Ann Coulter pie incidents were staged?
They stage this and then cry about liberal colleges.
I want to know more about the pie thrower in these incidents. .....I want names... I want to see voter registration cards.....lol

Kind of like the time Karl Rove bugged his own office, then called the cops.

Exactly my point I made in an earlier post. You people just say things. The Ann Coulter pie incident. This is the 1st anyone has heard of it. Where is the proof? Rove bugged his own office. Do you have any facts? I would like to see them. Unlike popular opinion Karl Rove is not Merlin the Magician and is not responsible for every evil act ever done, nor is the POTUS, but you children must have their fun

I must have missed the Coulter incident being exposed as having been staged by Coulter or conservatives. Please give us your reference (other than HuffPo fake news, of course).

Kind of makes you nostagic for the '60s, doesn't it? You know, when conservatives handled trouble makeres (civil rights workers, anti-war protesters, etc.) by killing them.

Those were the days!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:54 PM on 04/24/2008

I see your a real student of history aren't you?

Please come back and tell us a little about what the state of civil rights in this country would be without the Republicans.

I have a feeling once you graduate middle school and take a few history classes that post is going to haunt you as one of the most ignorant things you have ever said.
