Boy do Stossels questions sound shallow. She would have gotten a better interview from her local high school news paper.
I agree. He tried to put her in her place.
It was obvious...
I disagree with everything Stossel said, but you have to be fair. The job of the media is not to give people a free pass. He's trying to disagree with her, which is what the media should do.
The purpose of the media is to offer all points. That was not offering all points. He could have countered with, say neoliberal, or far-left. He didn't. He went after her personally, and tried to facilitate a perception of hypocrisy. I seen right through it.
It's a scary time right now in this country. Repubs have got to right the ship at convention time and switch to Paul before its too late.
Arianna is lovely and has intelligent things to say. Stossel's a fool who echoes people's questions back to them like a freaking monkey. What a noodge!
I really like the spot where Huff says something to the effect of "well, if you were one of the people who lost their jobs, you wouldn't be so cavalier about it."
When faced with facts that refute, liberals always portray their "sparring partner" as stupid or heartless. The beauty of Huffington's comment is that you can basically level that charge as long as any single individual somewhere is suffering.
If you can truthfully say, "well, unemployment is down to 0.01%" Huffington can say, "well, if you were one of those 0.01% you wouldn't be so cavalier about it." Until such time that all suffering everywhere is abolished, liberals have a play book. Don't let those facts bother you. No reason to start now.
Facts you say? John Stossel has a well known aversion to them:

Isn't this argument just a different flavor of what your accusation? You make a broad statement that ties all Liberals together as if they were a unified mass and then use a straw man argument against them.
iloveconsistency wrongly claims: "I really like the spot where Huff says something to the effect of "well, if you were one of the people who lost their jobs, you wouldn't be so cavalier about it." "
The segment I watched had Arianna stating, pretty clearly "If you were the husband of a women who had been killed in a workplace accident, you wouldn't be so cavalier about it".
This is fairly typical of the lunatic fringe to highjack a quote and re-shape into something they consider less confrontational (E.G.: job loss vs human life loss).
What a bunch of putzes -- the right IS wrong! Arianna was a part of the right wing machine and chose to change: very admirable IMHO!
I like seeing all the negativity and name calling in these posts. It makes it clear what all this is really about.
Stossel is no journalist. His comments always have that condescending and arrogant tone. And he loves his charts, which carry no weight. Anyone can contrive a chart to "prove" any opinion. This wasn't an interview. It was a farce designed to question Arianna's credibility. Why even participate in such nonsense.
Collielady, I'm glad you said it. I caught that tone in Stossel's voice that you use when you are trying to reason with a child. After ABC's debate I didn't think they could fall any further but there they go. It seems that, with rare exceptions, this type of crap is reserved for Democrats. Few people in the media would pull this crap on McCain.
What a poor excuse for a "journalis
He is a clown.
JOHN STOSSEL IS AN IDIOT...
For one thing, his condescending tone assumes his audience has the mentality of elementary school students, who have to be cued by tone of voice as to what to believe and think. His quick cuts and short-atte
Simpletons are a indeed dangerous species, however they are not an endangered species, these days.
Just look at Huckabee.
Well you mental giants have not challanged anything said.
wmbear, I could not have said it better. There was something odd about the interview. It was his strange, condescending tone, telling his followers that they should disprove of Arianna. As if, the audience has no mind of its own. It is the classic Fox News maneuver.
Don't get all defensive over Stossel's charts. Remember, statistics can be cherry picked and graphed to support any argument, no matter how moronic. Charts can't fool critical thinkers. For example, men were shaving off their mustaches at a very high rate after they went out of style in the early '90s. According to that chart no man should still be wearing a mustache in 2008, yet our friend Stossel miraculously still has glorious hair over his lip. There you go!
THE REPUBLICAN PARTY...
Is the party with the fringe on top....
And their alternative energy plan is the one horse buggy.
Arianna wears her hair much more naturally now that she is on the left, which is a good indicator the left's positions are correct. Stossel is funny and transparent. He says that the media likes Ms. Huffington, therefore we are supposed to draw negative conclusions and he is a member of the media himself. Then he intimates that Ms. Huffington has many celebrity friends and again we are supposed to think poorly of her.
Stossel picks a strange time to attack OSHA. President Bush has left many foxes in charge of the henhouse of regulatory agencies with disastrous results. The Sago Mine just had an avoidable disaster where lives were lost when the owner of the mine used an unsafe form of mining. The Mining Safety and Health Administration refused to act against a mining company with numerous complaints filed against it.
Additionally, numerous children's toys imported from China have been found to contain lead paint while Nancy Nord, the head of the Consumer Product Safety Council, who was herself a former industry bigwig, refuses a bigger budget to hire additional inspectors in her testimony to Congress. A bureaucrat who refuses a bigger budget is almost unheard of, unless you are a fox guarding the hen house.
Then Stossel grasps at the last desperate straw of climate change deniers, as it is now extremely difficult to deny the science without looking loony, by attacking her lifestyle. Stossel never had to work in a factory or may appreciate OSHA more
Like Communism, Libertarianism is a failed ideology; yet its adherents are in places of power in our country. No wonder we have a government that refuses to work for its people.
Typically Libertarianism embraces a philosophy of social liberalism and fiscal conservatism.
Though most people might not specificly take a label, the evidence that this political position is growing in America, is the ever increasing importance of "Independants". Both parties appear to be very aggresive in courting these votes.
So I would have to disagree with your statement. However, I would point out though, a desire to have one's government "work for it's people" is what underlies the communist social principal.
