The announcement got buried in the avalanche of news coverage ahead of Tuesday's Democratic primary in Pennsylvania. But on the same day that Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton finished another lap in their slog for the nomination, the national Democratic Party launched its first television ad against the man one of them will face in November.

The 30-second spot, which will air for three weeks on CNN and MSNBC and targets John McCain's economic views, reflects a growing sense among Democratic leaders that the prolonged nomination fight is giving Senator McCain a free pass for too long.

Watch it:

How about an ad tracing the influence of Lee Atwater through Karl Rove and Hillary Clinton?

How about an ad featuring the connection between conglomerization of corporations to the demise of our media as we knew it under the Fairness Doctrine and during the time when monopolies and cartels were not part of the American way?

I think this ad will do for now, it's a good start. Not over the top, but just right. Makes him look like an idiot, can't ask for more than that.

How about an ad regarding the Keating 5?

McCain will not make it over the finish line.

You should remember we said the same thing about Reagan.

And Bush. 52 MILLION people voted for George W. Bush in 2008. I can't believe that the left is constantly forgetting this. This is a country of liberal ideas but people who are more comfortable voting conservative.

McCain's running his campaign on Viagra. He could end the race still standing.

Good ad -- sounds the right theme and tone. I would suggest, however, that the Democrats need to tie McBomb to Bush more strongly in future ads. Show him embracing Bush, singing Bush's praises. Close with this slogan: LIKE BUSH? YOU'LL LOVE McCAIN. The Republicans have given us the worst president in American history and they need to have their noses rubbed in it, over and over and over again.

How about an ad featuring concrete ramifications of global warming to the destructive qualities of corporatism? Oh, forgot, that would hurt Hillary, too, and some Democrats in the House and Senate.

It's still a good idea. We need to wage this campaign on key connections to issues.

Just keep playing "Bomb, bomb, bomb -- bomb, bomb Iran" until November.

It's about time. The should have started running ads like this a month ago. Now, how about an ad that shows McCain saying something, and then later saying the opposite. It would have to be a half hour ad, but they could just start a series of 30 second ads. At the end the ad should say "John McCain, maverick or panderer?"

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:52 AM on 04/25/2008

So true. McCain's maverick image is nothing but a farce. He's one of the most lying and pandering politicians out there, with a history of corruption. He's the only member of the Keating Five, to still be in office. It's outrageous that this man is running for President of the United States.

I was very surprised to see this ad a few days ago.
I was convinced the entire Dem Party had forgotten what the Main Event really is.

now they just need to pull the curtain on the Opening Act and set the stage for the real show

I think it's crucial not to let Republican's get all nostalgic & dreamy. You have to hold them to the terrbile reality they have inflicted on the US & World in the last 8 years.

If the Republican's get real slimy & under the belt in the general election, all you have to do is show a honest, respectable Iraqi & let them decribe the horror's of war, that the Neo-con's have done to them.

Good ad. Now, wonder how much we can pay the old coot to take Hillary off our hands!!

I'm still writing the DNC everyday to get off their sorry asses and get behind Obama since he is the clear winner. We let Hillary go on and on in PA. Now is the time for the Supers to get off their's and stop this madness and Hillary's delusions.

Please donate to the DNC.org for ads like this to continue. It is a great hit. Thanks.

Democrats have to pay to get this ad aired. Meanwhile, MSNBC and CNN have been running the North Carolina Republican hit job on Obama and Rev. Wright over and over and over for free.

Please donate.

I would rather donate to moveon.org. The DNC is responsible for the mess we are in right now.

In all seriousness, kellygrrl, barring an outbreak of mass insanity or some kind of colossal fraud, there is no way in hell the Repukelicans can win. They are running on the legacy of the worst and most unpopular president in history, they have compiled a record of corruption and deceit unparalleled in modern times, they have gotten us bogged down in a disastrous war and they have driven the economy off a cliff. And despite all that, we are to think the senile old fart they've nominated has a chance?

That said, I agree the Democrats need to hit hard and continuously, because they have the chance to inflict on the Repukelican Party an ass-whuppin' that it will take 50 years to recover from.
