New York Times/TV Decoder:

Jim Lehrer, the longtime anchor of PBS's signature evening newscast, underwent a successful heart valve procedure on Wednesday.

"Jim plans to be back at full speed and on the program within a few weeks," the network said in a statement on Friday.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Lehrer said he first felt ill last Friday. He checked into the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for the
procedure. Substitute hosts will fill in for Mr. Lehrer on "The NewsHour" for the time being.
