Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart turned his attention from the Democratic primary to analyze George Stephanopoulos' interview of John McCain. Stewart hits McCain -- and the media generally -- for the huge discrepancy between questions asked to Obama a week ago and questions asked to McCain this weekend.

The whole thing is worth a watch. If you weren't impressed by Stephanopoulos after his debate performance last week, this probably isn't going to bring you closer to him:

Jon Stewart turned his attention from the Democratic primary to analyze George Stephanopoulos' interview of John McCain. Stewart hits McCain -- and the media generally -- for the huge discrepancy bet...

Not that I would ever expect a Republican to "go deep" with their critical thinking skills, because were that the case they would see through the consistent Flip Flop/Splish Splash of McCain, ("I'll be in Iraq for 100 years if that's what it takes," to "I never said '100 days!") but that you have succombed to the side show in the Rev. Wright circus which left town weeks ago is very telling.
The Elephant Circus has had 8 years to entertain America, and all they have done is sell the American people out to oil interests with an energy policy that panders to them, while spelling doom to the country, and the world; franchised our tax dollars on a war they knew they could not win based on a false pretense of WMD solely for their own economic profit; robbed the children of America of their right to a free and decent public education with the unfunded No Child Left Behind, bankrupting states and forcing them to ask taxpayers to pay for what they have already paid for--or so they thought. Toys have lead, our food is tainted, and pollution abounds. THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET CREATED BY W AND HIS ELEPHANT CIRCUS. IS THAT NON-ELITIST ENOUGH LANGUAGE FOR YOU? If you perceive elitism, you must be feeling inferior to Barack and his supporters. Why not just open your eyes and your mind? Education is nothing to be afraid of; ignorance is.

It's about time that Stewart decided to take a close look at McCain's inconsistencies. The love affair he has had with John McCentury made one wonder just what kind of pictures McCain or Rove had of Stewart.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:29 PM on 04/26/2008

Did you notice the interview he had with McCain a year ago? How quickly ye forget.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:58 PM on 04/26/2008

You two seem not to understand how Stewart works. He is civil to ALL his guests. That's what good interviewers do. He just sits back and lets the guest hang himself. McCain does it nearly everytime he speaks.
Trashing your guests, ala O'Reilly is stupid. No one would ever want to be on his show.

If it wasn't for a fawning asskissing press, McCain would be through already. With a message of perpetual war, giving money to rich people, and continuing corrupt bush empire it is hard to imagine him not being pelted with rotten fruit anytime he shows his face.

John is good at what he does...........but do not lie to yourselves

The BIG difference between McCain and Haggee and Obama and Wright is OBVIOUS

McCain does not belong to Haggee's church! He is not McCain's crazy Uncle.

Did not marry Cindy and Joh McCain, did not baptize their children and John has not even attended a service in the guys church................OBAMA HAS SAT 20Years listening to Wright!

Wrong--the difference is McSame welcomed the endorsement of Hagee.

The other glaring difference is Wright is educated about what he talks about, and almost sane.

McCain does not have to belong to Haggee's church, he knows what the man preaches and stands for. McCain has lots of character issues, one he is an adulterer and apparently has no respect for women, see Cindy and Chelsea. In short, McCain iis not to be trusted.

Important difference, A$$HOLE:

Haggee is an insane pig.

Wright is a good man who has been painted by pathetic idiots like you as an Angry Black Man.

Stay in your stupor of pure stupidity. I bet you won't even lift an f'in finger to find out the truth. People like you gave us Dubyah. Thanks a bunch. You're a pathetic fool who can't tell the difference between a your ass and a hole in the ground.

Smart people know that this is only an issue to those who seldom delve into the world of "intellectual discernment".

When "guilt by (far-reaching) association", at this level, becomes THE "bright-shiny-object" of republican (Busheep) argument, you just have to know that their "reasoning" (through sad desperation) will likely continue to have them voting (and acting) against their own best interests, rather than to first assess why their choices reflect such a severely damaged psychology.

Welcome to the world of the easily programmed. Welcome to the republican party voter base. Laughable . . . but in a very sad, sad way.

Stewart is dead-on as usual. I wonder if THIS segment will be featured on This Week's "Sunday Funnies" segment. Probably not since he is unwilling to acknowledge his own bias (claiming hyper-defensively that Americans really CARE about lapel pins as an issue--because, you know, that IS the most pressing problem). I won't find out either because I quit watching Curious George and will continue to boycott his crapfest. Stephanopoulos has ZERO credibility.

Yea, McCain was "adopted" by his wife - like mommy big bucks. But that didn't stop him from calling her a c@#n in earshot of other people. What a friggin jerk. If he is "adopted" by America with his fake adorable bull crap talk express, he will do worse to our nation and our poor, and our soldiers who suffer in Iraq! He is a slug!

As the first of a generation to be saturated in media from birth, on reflection the time spent reading books and talking with educated people is what has been of value. The opportunity cost of even this modest web habit is far too great. I have not had a television in my home for 10 years. It has been obvious for a long time to educated people that this vast censorship and brainwashing is typical of the stage of a culture just prior to the rise of charismatic individuals who communicate a synthesis that restores meaning that has been systematically eviscerated from cultural content. The hunger for meaning in a vapid and sterile social discourse becomes so painful--it literally screams from these blogs--that people blow themselves up out of desperate exasperation until a person emerges to renew the meaningful rituals of social connection. War and consumption are no longer credible purposes for a nation, and the real work of cultural and spiritual development begins.

Funny how all these stooges actually take stewart serious on this site. When the fool makes fun of someone they don't like, it's the old "he's just a comic" line, but as soon as he makes one of his pathetic remarks about something semi serious, or they read his pathetic, hypocritical articles, they treat him like he actually uses his brain. On the left it's all about double standards!! Come and get some boys!!

Would that be 'class of '62"? I was born in '62, now I'm beginning to understand. Stewart is brilliant AND funny. You are neither. Jon is always incredibly respectful to the Senator. So much so, that after he totally eviscerated him on his appearance post-debacle of the 'stroll through the Baghdad market just like any town in America',, needed two Black Hawk helicopters and 100 Marines and a helmet and flakjacket, he made a statement on air the next night, saying it was painful for him to speak the truth in a fashion that made it obvious McCain had turned into an out of touch panderer. Think Stewart doesn't hold influence? It was THEN, McCain's funding evaporated and he started flying Southwest in coach. (Where was Cindy with her beer fortune then? Oh...Forgot. Looking up recipies on the Food Network...)

McCain is getting away with a lot. He can choose not to answer a question, he can stall, he can come up with contradictory statements and the media still calls him the maverick. What a charade.

Stephanopoulos and other members of the media are so afraid of the far right and conservative radio it is not funny. They ask Democratic candidates the most personal, arcane questions and ask Republican candidates softball questions or let them get away with crazy replies. If Obama would have just said about Rev. Wright "I accept his support," as McCain said of Hagee the media would have never accepted it. I think the right has convinced the media that their candidates are not supposed to be smart and, in fact, that being smart is elitist. Candidates and the media both know Republican policies do not work so the media just lets them get away with any non-responses. The whole processs is extremely warped.

How many honest black politicians does it take to screw in a light bulb?

It would only take one, but the corrupt-white-corporate media elites won't let him step up on the ladder. They like the dark. It's easier to scare people in the dark. Fear equals power. Power equals control. Control equals wealth.
