Rush Limbaugh Sings: "I'm Dreaming Of Riots In Denver"

DENVER (AP) - Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh downplayed his "dreaming of riots in Denver" statement, saying that he wasn't calling for riots and was referring to warnings of trouble if super delegates decide the nomination at the Democratic National Convention.

Limbaugh's comments on his syndicated show Wednesday prompted Mayor John Hickenlooper to say: "Anyone who would call for riots in an American city has clearly lost their bearings."

Limbaugh made his comment Wednesday to the tune of the holiday song, "White Christmas," and said riots during the convention would ensure Democrats don't get elected.

Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the protest group Re-create 68, mimicked a comment by state Rep. Douglas Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, by saying: "We don't need another 5,000 illiterate Limbaugh listeners coming to Colorado."

Limbaugh is on about 600 stations. It's changing, but it takes time. The Corporate Media conglomerates have all the "big stick" stations and it's hard for liberal radio to break in--especially if the "breaking in" talk radio host's politics are not particularly amenable to the laissez-faire media regulatory ethos.

True. Despite all his faults, Limbaugh is one of the top political intellectuals of our time. He has the talent and ability to cut through clutter and present the most complex issues in clear, concise language.

It is interesting to remember the Democratic National Convention of 1968.

The Democrats had a President in the White House, who did not understand the role of foreign affairs and the armed forces. He thought anyone who stood up to us by definition was the bad guy, and deserved to be warred upon. The protests at the convention were aimed at the war, and were instigated by the out-of-control Daley police.

What about 2008? The Democrats have been largely outside of the political process for 7 years. They are united in their desire to end the Republicans' war. They are united in their desire to reinstate fair taxes on the super rich, to balance the budget, to save the infrastructure, to increase fuel economy, and to save the planet. If anyone riots, it will most likely be the Limbaugh Luddites, protesting the resumption of the democratic process, and the end of intentional incompetence in government.
