Mccain Jet

New York Times:

Given Senator John McCain's signature stance on campaign finance reform, it was not surprising that he backed legislation last year requiring presidential candidates to pay the actual cost of flying on corporate jets. The law, which requires campaigns to pay charter rates when using such jets rather than cheaper first-class fares, was intended to reduce the influence of lobbyists and create a level financial playing field.

But over a seven-month period beginning last summer, Mr. McCain's cash-short campaign gave itself an advantage by using a corporate jet owned by a company headed by his wife, Cindy McCain, according to public records. For five of those months, the plane was used almost exclusively for campaign-related purposes, those records show.

Mr. McCain's campaign paid a total of $241,149 for the use of that plane from last August through February, records show. That amount is approximately the cost of chartering a similar jet for a month or two, according to industry estimates.

The senator was able to fly so inexpensively because the law specifically exempts aircraft owned by a candidate or his family or by a privately held company they control. The Federal Election Commission adopted rules in December to close the loophole -- rules that would have required substantial payments by candidates using family-owned planes -- but the agency soon lost the requisite number of commissioners needed to complete the rule making.

See, this is why the General election is going to be so much easier then what the MSM is portraying. McCain, prepare to meet thy maker!

All three candidates are "elitists" as compared to the rest of us. Get over it.
I'm more concerned that for the first time I can ever remember, each of the three have rotated positons as media darlings. I don't know enough about any of them duo to the softball interviews and such.
And for those of you who actually believe the commercials/party spin, if McCain is another Bush term then I'd rather expect that Obama is the retrun of Jimmy Carter and Hillary a continuance of Bill. Don't buy it for any of them. I just don't see that out of the selection that we'll get a good representation of the average American.
And remember, bash Bush all you want (I'm no fan) and cite popularity polls, but Congress is not popular as well......numbers are pretty bad......this is the body of our government that will have the greatest impact on change.
Everyone's out of touch because, again, they're all elitists. When's the last time you put on a $10K suit or dress and clanked glasses w/your "supposed" political opposite?

I don't particularly care if McBomb uses his wife's jet. But there's a rich irony in the Repukelicans denouncing Democrats as "elitist" when their candidate and his wife fly around in a private jet and have a fortune in their neighborhood of $100 million.

Good to see the Bush apologists are already latching on to McCain. Guess some morons never learn.
The issue is his hypocrisy. Iknow you Bushtards have a difficult time with that concept since it appears to be ingrained in every one of you but the rest of us, those who can think for ourselves, find hypocrisy truly despicable. McCain helped and supported this kind of reform but is the first to find any loophole he can to get around the spirit of the law. Of course it's a shame that the rightwing nuts don't realize that the McCain-Feingold reform was heavily supported, backed and assisted by George Soros - you know the person that most of you nuts consider the socialist anti-christ. But as the GE starts taking focus you'll be finding out just how much McCain was in Soros's pocket....

McCain gets away with so much from the media. For example, on a Meet the Press with Russert who loves the guy, McCain was once talking about how he did NOT take a raise in the Senate as some had and then went on to say "MUCH TO THE DETRIMENT OF MY FAMILY". Russert who loves the gotcha stuff with others never flinched and never commented and no followup. Detriment of the family when his family is worth millions and his wife is an heiress was basically lying to the American people, trying to pretend he is just common folk. This the problem with the media today. They are a profit making organization and no longer real journalists trying to elicit facts so as to allow the people to form informed decisions.

"This the problem with the media today. They are a profit making organization and no longer real journalists ..."

The problem is not that the media are operated for profit; they always have been, at least in this country. (And would government-financed and government-controlled media be a better alternative? I don't think so.)

The problem is that reporters and editors have contempt for their readers and viewers and prefer to identify with the politicians, bureaucrats and corporate officials they cover. They are concerned above all -- and this is especially true of the media elites in Washington and New York -- with staying in good with those people so they continue to have "access" to the news, not to mention the fashionable cocktail parties. In other words, they're a bunch of goddamn suck-ups.

The story here is that MCCAIN HAS BEEN SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER ABOUT THE EXISTENCE OF LOOPHOLES, YET HE USES EVERY ONE OF THEM, THE HYPOCRITE.

The other story is that he and his wife both think they are above the law. The dope-addicted bitch broke numerous federal laws with her narcotic use of meds she had purchased for her so-called foreign aid charity, and she diverted them to her own use, had filed all kinds of illegally sworn requirements to possess those things, and then SHE DIDN'T GO TO THE SLAMMER FOR IT.

The bitch should be in jail.

OMG, the audacity! To use his wife's plane! Outrage! (Even though it was NOT against the rules). What a pathetic non-story being drummed up by (surprise, surprise) the NY Times and liberal media like huffpo. Can someone tell me how many times Obama has gotten the cover of Time or Newsweek? Can someone tell me how many fawning front-page articles about him have appeared in the LA Times? Talk about "unfair advantage"! Now, how about someone calculating all of the Secret Service costs associated with Bill & Chelsea's endless campaigning? Nah, that's not important -- they're Democrats and all. Let the absurd double standard continue...

Um...no he didn't. Go get the facts.

For the first time in history Congress defied the recommendations of the special prosecutor, who recommended to Congress that McCain be spared any punishment. Not so for the other four (Democrat) members who were found culpable. McCain was reprimanded for having exercised 'poor judgment'. That's it. There is nothing to that story. Get over it.

By the way, the afore mentioned special prosecutor has offered to speak on behalf of McCain because he felt that McCain received unfair treatment by a partisan committee. What now? Is the special prosecutor corrupt? Is that how you will continue to delude yourselves?

I know you guys don't like facts but there they are.

I don't care how many times it's already been said, WHO is the elitist?
Clinton loans herself five million bucks, McCain uses his wife's PRIVATE JET(not quite the same as borrowing her car)
yet Obama is supposedly the "elitist".
Anybody who falls for the "McCain is a straight-talkin' regular guy maverick" schtick is a fool.

The Nevada Republican State Convention imploded yesterday when a majority of the participants supported Ron Paul over John McCain. Even the Republicans don't want McCain.

The Republicans didn't want Madman McCain back when he was Karl Rove's bitch during the 2000 run against Bush. They viewed him as second rate then - and now he's second rate and 8 years older. The lock-step, knee-jerk arch-conservatives can't stand him because he's reached across the aisle one-too-many times and it's safe to say GOP voter turnout will be low come November when he faces off against Obama.

Between McC's low turnout and possible record numbers for Obama, it might be the closest thing to a blowout we've seen since Reagan.

Real Republicans are gone ... someone needs to write a translation for the new doublespeak we have in Amerika of today: Even Nixon would be blown away at how blatant the corruption has gotten.

War = Invasion
Peace keeping = Occupation
Bring democracy to = We NEED that oil
Surge = Escalation
Republican = NeoCon

Bottom line ... if you like Bush, you'll love McCain. Same integrity, same logic, same hatred of our Constitution. McCain calls the wife with the zombie eyes the C-word now and then just to keep it all real.

I saw on the ABC debate that you shouldn't vote for a candidate that doesn't wear a US flag lapel pin so I am taking this proposition to its logical conclusion.

I mean if his wife won't wear a pin, what does that say about the extent of his loyalty?

And one should also look to see if the kids wear flag lapel pins.

I also expect my candidate's pet to have a flag pin on its collar.

And the servants, did I mention the servants?

    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:59 AM on 04/27/2008

Don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate every person who wears the uniform and has served in combat. Too darn bad McCain is hell bent to subject his fellow comrades to an endless deployment rotation in Iraq...something he should well know better than to do. Some old soldiers never stop fighting their last war it seems...nor do they recover properly or fully from their war wounds (PTSD).

"Where's his wife's flag lapel pin?"

Under her lapel. Since the press suggested early in the campaign that she couldn't go tit for tat against Ann Romney or Janet Huckabee, she got a tattoo.
