UPDATE: During an interview on Tuesday afternoon with MSNBC, Elizabeth Edwards denied rumors that her or her husband were on the verge of an endorsement. A rough transcript is below, or watch the video:

MSNBC: I do want to get you on this issue in terms of the news value. Can you say to me right here on MSNBC that you or your husband will not endorse in the next week? That is correct?

EDWARDS: I would be surprised. Things can happen at any day, as we found out today, a very big day on the political scene. So you never say never, so I don't know that the situation could not happen in the next week that would change our minds. But our current -- my current inclination is not to say any more than I have said. I'm willing to repeat it as many times as people want me to. John would have to speak for himself. He's also on vacation.

EARLIER:

With only days away from the North Carolina primary, what has become of John Edwards? While his wife has begun to take an active life in the political fray (including a few shots at John McCain's healthcare plan), the former presidential candidate has remained silent.

Today, Hillary Clinton will pick up a big endorsement from North Carolina governor Mike Easley. But the biggest North Carolina endorsement, Edwards himself, seems nowhere in sight. The New York Times reports on the conflicting pressure faced by John Edwards:

Many of Mr. Edwards's supporters in North Carolina have been quietly pressing him to endorse Mr. Obama, and a large group of them, led by Ed Turlington, his campaign chairman during the last presidential race, came forward publicly last week to support Mr. Obama.

On the other hand, Mrs. Edwards, her husband's closest and most trusted adviser, has made it clear that she favors Mrs. Clinton; aides said she had recently tried to persuade Mr. Edwards to do the same.

All that lady was talking about is health care.

Despite the fact that both plans will never happen

Im glad John Edwards didn't come close to getting the nomination. Where's the leadership?

Both Elizabeth and John should be careful not to lose the people's respect.
If they endorse Hillary, they also will be "showing their real faces" and that would be a terrible shame.
I always thought that this political couple was truly sincere. Time will tell....

So if someone searches their heart and comes to a different conclusion than you, they are automatically insincere. Geez. Hillary has done alot of good in her life. Has she done wrong, you betcha. But who can say they haven't. Sure, recognizing the good she has done is not as fun as attributing every evil or ill intention in the world to her, but you might just become a better person if you do.

Oh come on - John and Elizabeth Edwards are jealous! They wanted to be where the Obamas are now and it didn't happen. They know Hillary doesn't have a chance. They would only endorse her to spite Obama. But John still has hopes of riding in on his white horse during the convention.

I like Edwards, and considered voting for him, but chose Obama instead. (Hillary had my vote until she worked overtime to lose it.) But not enough voters were persuaded by Edwards to keep him in the race. It's not enough to talk about his progressive ideas. You actually have to get people to vote for you. He couldn't do that in the primary, and he wouldn't be able to do it in the general. He lost - John and Elizabeth both need to get over it.

Elizabeth Who? ... Oh yes, the wife of ... Is Elizabeth still aware of Hillary's votes for war while cancer eats her brain? Why Edwards just don't shut her up?

Ummm. Idiot. You mean teh vote in 2003 that Edwards also voted for?

Or do you mean teh constant funding bills that Obama can't wait to vote yes for? Ironic, the "anti-war" candidate misses more votes than any other senator in hoisstory but always makes the time to support an Iraq war funding bill.

I think we're supporting the same candidate, but remember - "We can disagree without being disagreeable..." You do a disservice to your message with your hostile tone.

Now let's get back to fighting in a way that doesn't diminish the cause -

John Edwards and Hillary are as different as night and day - If he supports her, then he is not the person he used to be, or he wasn't the person he said he was - http://youtube.com/watch?v=1LY0AqYXZC4

Elizabeth Edwards is the wife of a former Presidential Candidate and the wife of a former Senator. That makes her almost as qualified as the wife of a former President.

if edwards endorses hillary he will go down as the biggest hypocrite in this election.

when he was still in the race, i liked him quite a lot.. but i couldn't trust him because of his sharp change in positions from his 2004 campaign. the fact that he has not come out for obama when his whole 2008 bid was based on similar themes further fuels our distrust.

I really like John Edwards, and I always wish his wife the best of it all ! But I don't think a wife should rule the roost over her husband the way she does! It makes him look like a wimp, and I think he has a real good standing in the political arena. But he must stop makeing it look like she is dictateing his life, and let him be a mans , mans! He won't get very far if he doesn't look like he's makeing his own decisions in these things! I also don't think a husband should rule over his wifes decision either! My husband is for Hillary and I'm for Obama, however after all that is happening he's seriousely thinking of changeing on that. My kid are split between the two . I can live with that! If the Edwards can't live being divided on their decisions, than they don't need to be in the public eye, because it will look like he voted her way to just shut her up and that's a bad for his future!

John Edwards should maintain his present position on the sidelines for now. He has a future in the administration of either candidate, and if he wants elements of all his various programs to be a part of the overall Administration's approach, he should just wait

awesome video.
it's just too bad that information that deals with issues isn't considered news any more.

All I know is that Mrs. Edwards prefers HRC's health care plan, hardly an endorsement. If you have a link to provide where we can see that she actually has endorsed HRC, please provide. Otherwise this is BS.

I like Elizabeth Edwards, and I certainly hope she does NOT endorse HC. What credentials does HC have that make anyone think she can pass health care legislation? What? Because she failed miserably and knows better? Or because she cozied up to the companies that fought her? Look who is funding her campaign.

John Edwards is much closer to the ideals of Barack Obama than he is to HC. Anyone who watched the early debates understands how much he dislikes the way lobbyists fund her. He asked her if she would stop taking money from special interests, and she spat out "NO!" How can he forget that?

If the Edwards endorse HC, they should know that they will be used and discarded. Thrown under the bus? More like thrown over a cliff, after being dragged through the mud, after being poisoned and stabbed in the back.

Ummm, fact: Edwards major issue was healthcare. Fact: Obama has taken more lobbyist money from the pharma industry than McCain and HRC combined, which is why Obama's healthcare proposal is so weaK AND PRO BIG PHARMA.

It's disgusting what these people do for a seat at the table. She's just thinking her hubby will get a powerful job with Clinton. What's best for the country has nothing to do with Clinton.

Why is it that anytime anybody says anything positive about Hillary, the Obama Thugocrats come out of the woodwork and attack.

When will you thugs come to the realization that you are exactly like the right wing in methodology and tactics and you think your shit don't stink.

Guess what? Your sanctimonious shit stinks.

Maybe because Hillary is a two faced, triangulating, manipulative, lying, power mad politician. Or maybe not, I couldn’t say.

Having watched both parties extensively, based on my personal & unprofessional analysis of their individual strength & character,
I humbly predict it will take about 5 nanoseconds for John "the wuss" to cave and take direction and marching orders from Elizabeth.

I respect her, I am sincerely sorry she has a serious illness, she is a brave and intelligent person.

But sometimes, though the truth hurts, we have to be honest.
While Ann Coulter is an evil bitch, she (sadly) is sometimes a good judge of her opponents' strengths and weaknesses.

John Edwards is a weak-willed, attention / approval-seeking lawyer-salesman, and will do whatever he is told. God help Democrats if he were even nominated as vice president and a hard Republican (like Dick the meat-golem Cheney) got another crack at him in a debate.
Anyone care to remember the "deer in the headlights" expression on John's face during the VP debates?

Chalk up another endorsement (from John) for Hillary in the not-too-distant future.

$10 says I'm right. Any takers?
