NYT: Obama "Bored" With Primary, Shaking Up Campaign Style

Senator Barack Obama is making subtle changes to his campaign style and message in an effort to strengthen his appeal to blue-collar voters and to avoid a defeat in Indiana that aides fear could give Democratic Party leaders further pause about his viability in a general election.

On Sunday, Mr. Obama went to a Methodist church in Indianapolis, the kind of event rarely on his public schedule. He suited up for a game of basketball on Friday night before television cameras. And the big, energy-filled stadium rallies that were the bread and butter for most of his campaign have once again given way to smaller town-hall-style meetings, where he is seen talking with people and not at them.

Mr. Obama is seeking to absorb the lessons of his defeat in Pennsylvania. The changes reflect concern that he is being portrayed by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as distant and culturally out of touch with many working-class Democrats, a worry underlined by her lopsided victory among many of those voters in that state on Tuesday and last month in Ohio. ...

In interviews with several associates and aides, Mr. Obama was described as bored with the campaign against Mrs. Clinton and eager to move into the general election against Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee.

So the Obama campaign is undertaking modifications in his approach intended to inject an air of freshness into his style.

His "associates" are saying that his is bored with running against Hillary Clinton, not bored in general. He wants to focus on McCain. What candidate who has basically won the nomination not be frustrated by having to deal with the loser who will not quit? Time to move on folks! How boring is it going to be when Clinton and the MSM tell the voters that he is "bored" with them?

This is why I was and now continue to be wary of Obama as a candidate, he appears to be easily bored, and after a few deflations in the job I think he would become bored with trying to do anything substantive as president. What Obama said about his grandmother was not wrong. We've all said similar things about members of our own family. She was in one of his TV ads; and I'm sure she did not take his remarks personally either. However, I think your idea is a good one.

The thing about Obama though is that he doesn't pimp out his family, in the way Hillary does. During the debates he could have had his wife and two daughters there for a nice photo op, but he choose not to.

The HuffPo headline, altered from the NYT original, implies that Obama stated that he was "bored", when it was others that aren't even quoted as saying that Obama actually said such a thing.

I read an article that said that during the ONE meeting Obama had with his committee as a Senator (the one he heads, I forget the name of it) -- he was so bored that he slipped a note to the person next to him saying "Shoot. Me. Now."

He was so bored with all the Patreus hearings that he only slipped in for his own questioning and then slipped out, claiming he had meetings, etc.

Sorry all this political stuff is so boring. Sorry we couldn't hire you sooner. Sorry we have so many questions for you that you don't like. But most of all I am so sorry that the contest has gone on so long that you are finally being vetted. Because ever since we finally found out more about you, you have been losing ground.
