I Like ItI Don’t Like It

UPDATE: Now that McCain feels it is politically appropriate to bring up Rev. Wright, he has launched a fresh new round of criticism to catch up for his weeks of chivalry. And McCain doesn't let facts get in the way:

"I saw yesterday some additional comments that have been revealed by Pastor Wright. One of them, comparing the United States Marine Corps with Roman legionnaires who were responsible for the death of our savior. I mean, being involved in that. It's beyond belief. And then of course, saying that al Qaeda and the American flag were the same flags. So, I can understand. I can understand why people are upset about this. I can understand why, that Americans when viewing these kinds of comments are angry and upset."

Jake Tapper points out that Wright never actually made those comments about the American flag. And Marc Ambinder notes that, "Wright was in the Marines. He was a corpesman in Vietnam. He voluntarily enlisted."

Meanwhile, even Hillary Clinton is finding fault with McCain's weak performance in halting the North Carolina GOP from running attack ads featuring Wright. McCain declared last week that he would do everything in his power to stop the ad from running.

"I have said that that that was a personal decision of his I answered one question about it that made it clear I would not have stayed in that church under those circumstances," Clinton told reporters in Graham, NC. "But, I regret the efforts by the Republicans to politicize this matter and I believe that if Senator McCain were serious he would do more than just send a letter he is the putative nominee I think he could very clearly tell the North Carolina party tell the Mississippi party that he would not tolerate those kinds of advertisements and I'm waiting to see if he does that."

Sen. John McCain has reversed his position to not discuss Rev. Jeremiah Wright during the general election if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee. Claiming that Obama has made his relationship with Wright a political issue, McCain now says the topic is fair game.

Mention of Rev. Wright came during a McCain press conference on Sunday afternoon:

"I have said that I will not...have any comment on it and that's because I thought and I believe that Sen. Obama does not share those views" expressed by Wright, McCain said. "But Sen. Obama himself says it's a legitimate political issue, so I would imagine that many other people will share that view, and it'll be in the arena."

The statement came in response to an interview Obama conducted with Fox News Sunday that morning:

JEREMIAH WRIGHT: I felt it was unfair. I felt it was unjust. I felt it was untrue. I felt that those who were doing that were doing it for some devious reasons.

(END VIDEO CLIP) WALLACE: Question: Do you think that Reverend Wright is just the victim here?

OBAMA: No. I think that people were legitimately offended by some of the comments that he had made in the past. The fact he's my former pastor I think makes it a legitimate political issue. So I understand that.

I think that it is also true that to run a snippet of 30-second sound bites, selecting out of a 30-year career, simplified and caricatured him and caricatured the church.

The Obama camp has responded:

"By sinking to a level that he specifically said he'd avoid, John McCain has broken his word to the American people and rendered hollow his promise of a respectful campaign. With each passing day, John McCain acts more and more like someone who's spent twenty-six years learning the divisive, distracting tactics of Washington. That's not the change that the American people are looking for."

McCain is senile and does not remember what he says from day to day.
He has no idea who we are fighting in Iraq.
He knows nothing about economics.
He won't vote for the G.I Bill.

He is not exactly a prize.

He better get back on his wife's plane.

McCain needs to explain his sought out alliance with Rev. Hagee, his codemnation of Catholics, and the march to the Rapture. People need to know what needs to be done? Will Jews have time to convert in the first McCain/Hagee term. A joint McCain/Hagee press conference would certainly clarify these issues.

Bring it on. Can't wait to lead Hagee and his faithful to their own slaughter because Christ is NOT coming back. It's right there in their Bible.

This requires the media to do their job. That may be difficult when they are down on their knees in the back of the Straight Talk Express.

Wow he flips again...imagine that. And he's the best the Republicans had to offer...it's no wonder he won't succeed. It's really sad and no surprise that Obama is bored. Neither of his two opponents are as smart and classy as he is. Wake up America....Obama '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama isn't the one who made Wright a political issue. That would be Fox news and the rest of the paramoid neocon community.

I have a feeling this is going to backfire big time—on McCain. The more we see him, the more Rev. Wright comes across as a really smart guy. And really smart people don't suffer foolishness kindly.

And I sure hope we discuss John Hagee in the general election

If McCain tries to push the Wright "issue", then I have full confidence that Hagee and his radical comments will be brought into view.

Mccane, Bill and Hill are all neocons. Where's the change? Mccane is inching toward bush style campaigning and Hillary has embraced the rovian dogma to the nines. Where's the change? I don't care for Obama, but he's a change and infinitely superior to the two others stuck in the neocon tarpit. The word "change" has disappeared and the word "peace" has never been uttered. Where's the change?

McCain will soon be seen as the guy who will duplicate all the Bush/Rove tactics. Look what he did to Romney when he totally lied and mischaracterized his "surge/withdrawal" comments. Remember that? Don't let this old snake charm you. He charmed the press already.

Great. Now that Wright is fair game, Rod Parsley and John Hagee are also fair game, *if* the media wants to show they not only aren't liberally biased, but that they aren't biased to republicans:

McCain said. "But Sen. Obama himself says it's a legitimate political issue, so I would imagine that many other people will share that view, and it'll be in the arena."
Obama said it is a legitimate issue to debate. I agree with him. I think he is talking about a SOLUTION that we as a nation should debate upon so that race is NOT a factor to divide us. He said as much in his speech about race. It's an issue to debate just like ecomomy, health care, national security,... Hey, Clinton took credit for the economy riding on the technology but he didn't even take "credit" when the stock market bursted at the end of his term. Linking Obama with race as if HE is the problem or the cause of race in the debate is far-fetched.
He was extremely honest but he still don't get it that others will make a meal of his remarks,
What is wrong in the debate so far is that Wright's snippets of his sermons have been linked with Obama while Obama never says anything of the sort, whether exactly what the snippets said or what they inferred out of context.
What happens if Obama had said we should pretend that race has no history in this country, we should push it under the carpet and then pull it slimely out from times to times to serve someone's selfish purpose to divide us?

Stay away from this McCain. Trust me. I know your tough and all that, but this is not a battle that should be waged. He is not your opponent. To attack him will cause great issues of government and religious conflict. You a politician, you cant tell people the harsh truth. Pastors can. People dont go to politicians for their souls, we go to politicians for money and materialistic things. Dont attack a man who gives his heart and soul EVERDAY to something greater than you believe in. Your belief is in America. This mans belief is in GOD. Just dont do it. Well I say this. Dont do it till you have done your own research. Dont forget people hated Gahndi. and that is not to compare the two but trust me its not very honoralbe to judge a man before you know him. But if that is your vice. You are a War Monger, just one in denial.!!!!!!!!!!!

Two old has-beens running against a fresh voice with vision, amazing intelligence and an untainted Washington past. Both McCain and Clinton are part of our legacy but they aren't our future. Same old, same old. McCain has gotten a media pass thus far and Clinton, well, poor thing. She and the husband always go farther than they should. Ive been a life-long Democrat and I can't imagine that we'd re-install an impeached president in the White House. Wasn't it enough that we had to endure the 8 years of divisive and bitter politics and we lost both house of Congress because of the scandals? Obama is battling to move us forward. I, for one, want to give him a chance to do it.

When the Rev decided to start speaking at these events and in interviews - yes - of course it is now fair game.

Personally - I think that the Rev is throwing Obama "under the bus" - after Obama did everything he could to NOT throw the Rev "under the bus".

I listed to Rev Wright and found him to be excellent - but I am not the swing voter Obama needs who will have problems with some of Wright's statements.

Obama has to make a decision now - if he wants to be President - I believe - he needs to make a break from Wright as soon as possible - otherwise Wright will drag Obama to defeat.

If you let people disparage a good man who does not deserve the absolute abuse of his message, then we have become the enemy. In the military they don't let a man be left behind. Aiming for understanding is always better than the dishonor of just not taking an issue on. There are many more issues that need to be discussed, but each needs to be discussed thoroughly and fairly. First impressions are not always Wright.

"after Obama did everything he could to NOT throw the Rev "under the bus"."

Calling a man with the depth, intelligence, and sincerity of Rev. Wright a "crazy uncle", IS throwing him
under the bus. Was Malcolm X a crazy uncle? Joseph Lowery? Was Martin Luther King a crazy uncle?
As Reverend Wright noted on Moyers, Obama did what he had to do as a politician. To me, he was being a typical politician, but that's my opinion...

I wish the MSM would be fair about this. There are crazy preachers on all sides. I'm so sick of stories about Wright. The MSM is making him an issue and not being balanced on what is being said by other preachers who have endorsed McCain. There is a lot of polling about Wright, too (I didn't realize he was running for office???). 41% of those polled said he was a factor in how they were voting. No one asked them various questions about the Clintons and whether or not some of her messes were a factor in why they would not vote for her (is she still running?).
