For months, GOP operatives spoke with dread of the prospects of running against Barack Obama in the fall. But after weeks of controversies over his former pastor, his views of blue-collar voters and even the sincerity of his patriotism, Republicans now are ready to place a $500,000 bet that Obama will be a heavy burden on down-ballot Democrats.

That's the approximate amount of advertising purchased so far by the National Republican Congressional Committee and GOP allies to link Democratic congressional hopefuls in Mississippi and Louisiana to their party's potential presidential nominee.

Obama's photo with this article is my favorite. He looks so at peace in this photo (in the midst of this storm).

God bless Obama and his family and keep them safe.

Why is the GOP ignoring Hillary? Is it because they know Senator Obama will be the Dem nominee? If so, why doesn't Hillary drop out so Obama and the Dems can get it together and fight back.

i am shocked that Newt does not see past the Obama smoke and mirrors. The Obama campaign has much to gain here. Gee poor Obama will have to decry again his association with Wright. This is such an Obama set up that any one who is buying into it is just not very bright. The Wright question has been hounding Obama for weeks now; he needed something to make him address the issue. The Obama campaign had Wright do their bidding. Now Obama can pretend to be strong and take on Wright thus ending the right wing attacks....not so fast. Some of us have seen through the charade.

And which charade is it now?

This strategy is going to get costly for the GOP, and we'll see how long they stick with it - though, if recent history is any indicator, they'll probably stick with it long past any efficacy.

That's the problem, they aren't very bright. That's why they say the ones the vote for Hillary are uneducated. I am 67 years old, I listen to some of those little old ladies on C-Span talking about how great Hillary is.The problem with these people, they haven't got a computer and listen to her spin and believe it. The right wing will get their way, that's the only way they know how to win. I wouldn't vote for Hillary if you paid me. She is as corrupt as her right wing buddies.

What's great about the republicans is that they're so transparent. They are scared to death of Obama and the 50 state strategy. They know that there are hundreds of thousands of new Democratic voters because of Obama which means they don't have a prayer. Obama is the stronger candidate; he will beat McCain, so Obama supporters just keep the good vibe. Don't let the MSM get you down--they want to see a blood bath and, like Limbaugh, they want to see Obama bloodied. Obama's team can handle this issue and everything else that comes up. Everytime the repubs or Clinton pull a boner, I dontate money to Obama. Clinton and McCain can't bring Obama down. Dems, remain optimistic!

What we should be worrying about is McCain's running mate pick. Because that's who we'll be running against after McCain's term.

We should start planning now for 2012 and LEARNING from our colossal mistakes this time around. Admitting weakness is the first step to self-improvement.

The argument that Wright has done a misservice needs to be viewed at with different eyes. For the GOP Wright enables them to be the racists that they want to be without them being the bad guys .
I think that this whole fuss is going to clarify racism in this country --for every ethnicity.
We are trying to tell the people of Iraq to join together all you different sects, yet in this country we have one entire political party trying to keep a black man from becoming President.

IMHO this is all BS because we people of America decide who will be our new president. Not some stinky skunks from GOP and their dirty tricks. If people are opened to listen and understand then they never can buy bias of GOP. Remember we were twice downplayed by them. Are we really ready to go by the same way of disgrace once again?

Telling Michigan and Florida their votes dare not count so that Obama can be president is a good way to LOSE the election! So much for democrats "counting every vote". Not if it doesn't support a "progressive" is the rule I guess.

McCain's going to get a lot of voters that would have voted democratic.

Come come now, Florida might have a case, the republicans there were somewhat at fault. Michigan on the other hand does not, their leaders made a power play, it didn't work. Terry McAulif didn't agree with it as DNCC, and neither does Dean. However, since you guys in the Hillary camp need to work on those math skills, even counting both states as is, you are not in the lead, that's just a fact. Not in pledged delegates, not in popular vote, not in electability, nothing. Do they remind you guys on Hillary.com that the issue of popular vote is moot anyway since caucus states do not for the most part do head counts? No one is throwing the election to anyone, your math is just wrong and your candidate is giving you false hope based on that math.

Point is even if those states get counted, they is no way they will be decisive. They tried to bend the rules to be relevant over other states. It didn't work. The issue will go to committee at the convention. Someone will figure it out. If you are really so concerned about those states why don't you help them to not elect people to their state governments who got them in this mess in the first place.

If I lived in either of these state I would make sure to vote against the A-holes who voted to move up the primary. In the case of Florida it was Republicans just fucking with the Democratic voters.

This is getting silly. The GOP are very scared to run against Obama. Wright will be old news by November. On the issues they lose.

$500,000? Oooo I'm scared!lol

The Clintons have spent all kinds of money $100,000,000 in their fight against Obama and he is still standing and in front of Hillary at that.

Obama was not done under by the Wright controversy which is what the Clinton's had hoped. That was their last card to change the game, as it is, it is over for Clinton the rest are side shows.

Reminds me of that stupid Ayers article where Rove set out his plan on defeating Obama in the GE with commie attacks.

Only the strategy is getting weaker by the likes of this article. The GOP IS LOSING FODDER, and meanwhile John McSame is swinging from one position to the other, see-sawing, flip-flopping back and forth on all the issues. He's John Kerry on speed. It's so hard to keep up with what he said on this day and contradicted the next. The folder on him is growing by the day, and he's the gift with no end in sight!

So bring in on!!!
