Scarlett Johansson's new music video for her song "Falling Down" hit the web this week. The song is a cover of the Tom Waits classic of the same name. Johansson recorded nine other Waits covers and one original song for her album Anywhere I Lay My Head, which will be released May 20.

Seems bitchy to add my - "this sucks"- to the list. But there you have it. Bless her hollywood heart for giving it a try. I'd respect it more if she created a scholarship fund for talented young musicians instead of dropping the cash for a bad vanity record of herself. Then again, anything that puts royalties in Waits' pocket seems a worthy cause.

Not a rule of thumb that all actors are bad singers/musicians

List of actors who have done records I liked:
Miinie Driver- good playing, good writing- great and distinctive voice- authentic
Dennis Quaid (actually I liked hisband better than any of his movies)
Bird York

or sounded so good singing something in a movie I wish they had:
Meryl Streep
Jennifer Garner
Brad Pitt (okay I guess he was lip syncing in that Mr. And Mrs. Smith scene f*ing funny though and he was on key!)
Anybody have other faves they want to mention?

(sarcastically): wow! a video of a day in the life of Scarlett Johansson while she just as blandly sings karaoke to a Waits song...

won't be looking forward to any more vacuous droning and celebrity worshiping... too many real musicians out there with original music that i would rather have spent my time on - i feel ashamed of myself for getting sucked in

Vaguely Nico-esque with.that drony, monotone. But not too impressive on first listen. Won't search it out after it finishes playing here.

She sounds like she's singing from across the street.

The voice sounds weak, but it's hard to tell, because it's so over-processed. As a singer, she's a very pretty actress....

Sorry, Scarlett. You're gorgeous. You're a better than decent actress. You're not a singer.

Also, doesn't help that the vocals and production sound exactly like Sinead O'Connor circa 1985.

Tom Waits deserves far, far better than this. The man is a musical legend.

Celebrity self-absorption as music video.

At least try. You know?

Over produced.

I've watched it a second time now. My final comment: HuffPO, please take this down. Please. Don't make someone else suffer through it. Think of the 8th Amendment.

What the hell? Why is Salman Rushdie at 3:10?

At the halfway point, the instrumental (definitely mental) interlude. It's better than the part where she sings.

AHHH!!! I stopped listening and decided to watch the video. Bad decision.

1 minute in, and the chorus is making me cry. Not from joy or from sadness. More from the ear bleeding.
