Garin

With 60s-era radicalism now a hot topic in the Democratic primary, it's worth noting the (amusing, ironic) history of Sen. Hillary Clinton's co-chief strategist Geoff Garin.

Philip Weiss, who attended Harvard with Garin more than 30 years ago, recalls that he was "a special guy -- softspoken, funny, brilliant. He was also a radical. In 1973, on an anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, Garin called for violent revolution in the United States" in the student paper, the Crimson:

...America and much of the world is living dangerously close to oppression. ... Whether Americans will soon become steadfast in their resistance to oppression depends on their coming to understand what resistance is all about. The way we celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party will gauge the depth of that understanding.... Freedom is on the wane in this country and repression is on the rise all over the world. We can no longer sit back and swap stories about the good old revolution. We have to start worrying about the present. On this anniversary we must recognize that the patriots of Boston acted wisely in overthrowing their oppressors and the time is come to express our confidence in what our forefathers did by doing it ourselves. [my emphasis]

Following Agnew's resignation in 1973, Garin again spoke of revolution:

The government in Washington can not survive under these circumstances, and under these circumstances the government should not survive.... America will be governed in any case, but the question is by whom. If not by the people, then by a strong executive. These are revolutionary times, and we must decide now whom we want to win the revolution.

Of course, Garin was 20 years old when he wrote the pieces above. But as Weiss notes, "It is helpful to read his writings because they demonstrate: how much people grow, how common revolutionary statements have been in the left (even in the Jewish meritocracy, of which Garin and I are members). But mostly because they show that the continuum of left-center ideas, which are now coming back into American life, includes Wright, Garin, and Obama."

With 60s-era radicalism now a hot topic in the Democratic primary, it's worth noting the (amusing, ironic) history of Sen. Hillary Clinton's co-chief strategist Geoff Garin. Philip Weiss, who attend...

In that CNN Texas debate Hi-Liary asked and insisted that BO not just denounce but reject Farrakhan endorsement and Obama complied... But than Rendell the key Hi_liarry surrogate had some words of praise for Farrakhan/ Farrahkhan to say to con votes off them... and Hi_Liary said nothing, the MSM saith nothing...

Garin the revolutionary... Hi_Liary chief strategist... ah and than there was her spin when she roared Shame on You Barack Obaama, the day B4 she asid she was absolutely honored to be with him... did NAFTA... disinfo negative against BO and the earlier Chief Strategist Penn caught $300K and the Hubby half a million dollars pushing NAFTA...

and BTW media merely bothered to report... all these BO centric MSM clearly suggest that he is the next prez of the USA.

Now that you have pointed out YOUR problem w/ Hillary, let's take note of a problem for Barry that trumps all others. He has been screaming "judgment" since he started this primary race. What kind of judgment does he offer when he just now realized who Rev. Wright is? It took him 20 years and $20,000.00 to discover this? He won't have that kind learning curve in the White House. Obviously, he is far from ready for the big leagues. Perhaps a return to teaching?

"Judgment" has nothing to do with this. You have Obama, raised basically an agnostic, who discovered what we Christians call the greatest gift you could ever receive. There is an element of gratitude towards the person who reveals that truth to you, and it is a bond that is not easily severed. In addition, Obama, who really didn't know his father, looked to him as a father figure in a new city and with new responsibilities he hadn't had before.

I know it had to be heartbreaking for him to part ways with this man, and notoriety and a chance at fame can change anyone, including Wright. There have been numerous people on tv saying that they went to that church and they had never heard Rev. Wright say those sorts of things. In fact, several of his colleagues are confused about his behavior. Could it have something to do with a Clinton supporter inviting him to and organizing the press club event?

Whatever...

Flyguy you have shown in all of your posts a rigid tunnel vision that totally amazes me. Nothing including "judgement" is ever a black & white issue. Have you ever heard of or thought of things as being grey???? No probably not. Your emotional age is showing!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:15 AM on 04/30/2008

Ok Flyguy, can we agree that the President of the United States should show good judgement when making decisions? I think we all look for that quality in a President.

So, if you are asking why Obama didn't know Wright held certain questionable ideas or beliefs, it's fair to ask why Hillary stayed married to Bill? If she had such great judgement, how could she not know that the man she spent almost every day with was banging anything in arms reach? And, if she did know all along, why did she stay with him? I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but, by your standards, it's a legitimate question.

Also, let's look at her judgement in selecting the people she chose to run her campaign. Patti Solis Doyle, her campaign manager, burned through most of the cash she had before Super Tuesday and left her finances in shambles. From what I've read, she also "yes'd" Hillary to death- telling her what she wanted to hear. Didn't Hillary have the good judgement to see what an inept manager she was from the start? The same holds true for Mark Penn. For God sakes, the man went to Columbia to lobby in favor of an agreement she was "strongly opposed to" and getting paid on both ends. If she can't put together a competent staff to run her campaign, why do you think she'd do any better appointing people to cabinet positions?

I hope this gets covered in the MSM as everything about Bo and when he goes to the toilet and why!!!!! She was excited about the AYERS matter and scored points by the bitter whites in PA for it but these same folks forgot that BUBBA pardoned REICH and buddy from the same weather underground movement.....and it is nice to know too that the msm forgot to mention that she worked for a law firm in Berkley that gought for the rights og theBalck Panthers that killed two police officers......no mention of that..also it was reported yesyerday that her supporter and surrogate was instrumental for tWright to go to the Press on Monday and she was sitting right next to him.....what a supporter...of course she did not find that to be a conflict of interest...it is amazing how they are out to derail the Presidency of the first African American for President when Bubba was called the first Black president himself....maybe he still wants to hold on to that title!!!! How ironic!!!!! The media is not calling on HRC to try to win the Black votes in NC...they think all of them will run to the polls like usual in NOV to vote for her if she steals the nomination from him....we will see...she will nt get us either!!!! keep calling the media and let them know how unfair they are...I do!!!

Meanwhile as the "Divada not Unida" obama supporters continue their phony platform we have a RADICAL RIGHT WING REGIME THAT WILL NOT EVEN EXTEN UNEMPLOYMENT FOR $1 BILLION DOLLARS WHILE ASKING FOR OVER $100B FOR IRAQ SO THE SUPPORTERS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY CAN STUFF THEIR POCKETS AND THROW TRUCKS INTO A DITCH
WHEN THEY GET A FLAT TIRE.

Ok How about this:

The head of Bush's 2004 Communications team Was an ANARCHIST in the 60s. Said so on New England Camble News. He now has the same job with McCain, and said that if Obama wins, he will step away from McCain -- Presumably to attack from a 527 --
Has an Irish name.

huh?

didn't we all back then?

I did, and I'm just a typical white lady.

Hell, I'm for overthrowing the sons of bitches right now.
I'm bitter at the lack of rage in this generation.
Lots of talk, lots of hate towards HRC but no action about the idiot king and his criminal cadre and their evil enterprises.

Something is so skewered.
I guess if there was a draft there would be more real activism otherwise I guess its just too damn risky.

While I agree with being active and being convicted for your cause, Why does it appear that democrats are so full of hate? And Violence? I dont get it.

it's called seeing the forest through the trees......................you don't seem recognize that your Government has taken an ARMY to the other side of the world and invaded an unarmed Country, killed thousands of civilians........opened a death camp in guantanamo.........
If 'sunshine Patriots, such as yourself, ascribe to THOSE values, why aren't you and/your family joining up and supporting the true Republican values..steal & kill, steal & kill, steal & kill.........until it's all gone.

I think the overwhelming turnout from the 'naive youth vote' is a clear indication of the future generation's emotional investment they're willing to put in this country. There may not be rage but there is clearly discontent. Bush is almost gone and without an overwhelming control of Congress and Supreme Court Justices in his pocket, there's nothing anyone can do to him. On top of that, you'd have to take down Cheney at the same time. No one wants to see Cheney in the Presidency. History will serve as their justice.

This is amazing...

REV Wright is a nutjob... but so is this lunatic... but no-one seems to care bc he isn't supporting "the black guy"

Linda and Harry Bloodworth Thomason sure taught those Clintons a thing or two about rewriting history to suit their needs!

And some of their other friends on how to scrub their websites.

Too late.

Um, Wright's appearance was suggested two years ago. Y'know, when it was "Barack WHO?"... and you were twelve.

Talk about rewriting history to suit one's needs.

Seriously.
Holy Hell these poor babies.

So cranky, so afraid.

Conspiracies everywhere, those evil Clinton's. They sound like the90's far right wingnuts .

Have you ever seen anything like it?

Laurence O'Donnell on Verdict tonight turned rabid trying to cut off Lynn Sweet when she was answering his suggestion that the Clinton campaign was behind Wright at the Press Club!
She is a member and was trying to tell him how things are all done by committee. I expect it of HuffPo, the conspiracy angle, but O'Donnell?
Well, what am I talking about, HuffPo is pretty much part of the MSM now.

And did Hillary Clinton script the questions? and the answers?
In fact I heard she sent him to seminary to get his Masters of Divinity so that when she became the first Woman to run for President against the first Black running for President Rev. Wright would be there to cause controversy.
In fact she, the evil one used mind control to get Obama to move to chicago and get into politics.
YUP.
Because she knew where it would lead.
She has been directing the whole thing with her Machiavellian all powerful mind.
Yikkes. run and hind... no, don't, there is no use.
No place is safe.
Hop onto the Obama train and we can escape. But wait, she created Obama for just this contingency! What will we do????

Ok, i think it is time to go to sleep.
I'm obviously starting to unravel.

This would be all over every network, if it was Obama's manager.

How telling that there is nothing about it--

Not a mention of Mark Penn--Blackwater, trade deals.

Censorship--alive and flourishing.

Selecting what stories are covered. Wake-Up call!
