A press release from MoveOn announcing the launch of a $1 million, month-long ad campaign against John McCain.

A one million dollar month-long TV ad campaign against Senator John McCain will begin with the airing of a 30 second spot on Thursday, May 5th, the fifth anniversary of President Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech. MoveOn will spend $160,000 to air the new ad, titled "Candles", on cable as well as on broadcast networks in Iowa and New Mexico - states where Senator McCain is currently on the air unopposed.

The spot features a cake with the words "Mission Accomplished" in icing and five candles being lit on the cake. As John McCain's voice declares that the American people aren't concerned if we stay in Iraq for 100 years, the candles on the cake continue to multiply until they number 100. The shot then fades into a picture of President Bush and John McCain hugging. The ad, paid for exclusively by MoveOn's Political Action Committee and its small donor contributors, will run for a week.

"Voters need to know Senator McCain would continue President Bush's failed policies - in Iraq and elsewhere. A vote for him is basically a vote for a third Bush term." said Eli Pariser, MoveOn's Executive Director.

60+ trillion dollars...that's bascially what it would cost for 100 years. Am sure we couldn't use any of that money here.

Wonderful ad. Watch John McCain and GOP try and slam Moveon on this. This is only the beginning of John McCain being trounced by the dems.

I'd love to see McCain pressed on Hagee and Parsley - do you think he'd handle it as calmly as Obama has handled the Wright hooey? I think that might just set his infamous temper off. It's gonna be good. He's going to be easy to provoke, and Obama is just the man to do it. Obamas calm demeanor will just tick Gramps off big time.

Aye Aye Sir! Do we really need to tout the credentials of John McCave who accomplished the bifecta of
finishing last in his high school class and at the Naval Academy? When did the Presidency become a special needs position. McCain's confusing words like Shia and Sunni is a classic case of the disorder sematic paraphrasia, which often in the elderly is a symptom of more serious neuroligical problems. By the way if competence in warfare was the sole criteria for the President, the officet would be held by "Duke" Cunningham currently doing 10-15 for theft and fraud.

I'm sorry to see Move-on use this subject for their ad. There are so many ways we can expose McCain, why run an ad on the same subject as the DNC ad? Especially when the content is up for criticism because people say that he meant "if no one is getting killed". Some people will see that as a legitimate criticism.

Although, I don't quite understand how we will ever be able to have a presence in Iraq without our people being killed. They hate us and want us out of their country. I don't see that sentiment changing any in 10 years 50 years or a 100 years.

Considering the feelings of the people in the Middle East toward those of us "nonbelievers" in the west, it would be impossible to stay in Iraq without the constant killings. Bush put everything into his War plan except his brain, and overlooked the fact that in order to develop Democracy in that region, he would have to negate 2,000 years of ignorance and radical religious ideology. Sadly, all he has accomplished is wiping out our education and 200+ years of separation of church and state. How can he install a Democracy when he doesn't even remember what Democracy is? If McCain is elected, it will be a continuation of the same failed policy and overwhelming ignorance. Guess we just need to focus on bringing out McCain's lunacy as much as possible.

Good point. It's more money being poured into the "100 years" quote just like the DNC. And since the context is in dispute, any MSM coverage of this ad will probably show the ad contrasted with video of the actual full McCain quotation. Which helps McCain.

Moveon should stick with the "betrayus" stuff and just call McCain a traitor or something.

Has anyone else noticed the ever increasing abundance of right-wing trolls appearing on this site as the election approaches? It's not out of confidence. They are parasites fleeing their dying host and trying vainly to transplant themselves into a vigorous and inhospitable organism.

This is wonderful. All you rabid, sick, lefty weasels lining up in lock-step behind your billionaire puppet-master Soros to attack a true American hero. You go, girls. When the American public gets wind of this, you anti-American left-wing rats will disappear like roaches in the sunlite.

Staying in Iraq while we head into another depression, spending billions of dollars on an illegal, immoral invasion of a sovereign nation that was absolutely no threat to us is anti-American and goes against the very principles this country was founded on.

If you hate America, vote McCain!

Great ad unfortunately the American people are dumb as dirt I guess that makes me unpatriotic it boggles my mind how John McCain can basically say he is going to do the EXACT same thing as Bush and THEN SOME and still be doing so well. I'm embarassed seems we are just destined to learn things the HARD WAY!!

Hopefully the American people will remember Bush and McCain have enough money to last them several lifetimes. No matter how bad things get for the rest of us these two will NEVER have to worry about where their next meal will come from or if they will be able to afford healthcare or worry about being laid off from a job. But the resto of us will HAVE TO and the dumb lot of us are the ones voting. Mediocrity has become a synonym for the American people. We were never like this. I dont remember our standards being this low.

Well I hope you all in the top 2% income bracket or else I wouldnt count on that tax cut. Mcain wont raise tax because he will SELL our Country to China on DEBT thats how patriotic he is. The republicans dont give a flying fig about this country they only care about their money. I'm sure they have their money tied up in Gold while the DOLLAR continue to sink under HEAVY debt and a sputtering enconomy. Thats why they give corporations tax breaks to move overseas where they can get cheap labor and the American worker have end up finding a job in the local fast food that pays below minimum. THey are MORTGAGING OUR FUTURE and some are just too dumb to see it. THats how patriotic they are and they have the American people hoodwinked bamboozled manipulated. Heck the idiot said he doesnt know much abou the economy And the people want to entrust the economy in the worse state its been in decades. Thats how dumb some of us are.

BARACK OBAMA ONLY NEEDS 295 DELEGATES TO WIN THE NOMINATION!

The voters in North Carolina and Indiana, with a win for Obama in their primary's, can put this marathon Democratic primary to an end by voting for Barack Obama.

Barack has 1,730 delegates as of today. He needs 2,025 to win the nomination. I want every Democrat and Independant in Indiana and North Carolina to get to the polls and vote for Barack Obama. Don't let the media spin and the right wing conservative media conglomorates win this election.

Barack Obama is by far the strongest candidate against McCain. Go to www.pollster.com (type it in if the link does not work) and check out the state by state polls. Barack Obama is leading McCain in Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon, Minnesota, and even Colorado. Hillary is losing to McCain in Michigan, Oregon, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Colorado and she is tied with McCain in Minnesota. If Hillary can't win Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Oregon in the general election, then she can't beat McCain.

VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA IN NORTH CAROLINA AND INDIANA, AND LETS GET A DEMOCRAT WIN IN NOVEMBER!

Jeeze-louise, MO is an organization that assists activism. they send us emails that have footnotes on every assertion they make... and then they ask you to use your own brain and then perhaps call your representative to tell them what you think about a given issue... the war, the economy, bullcrap that is happening in our name. Imagine an active populace! That's what scares the freaky right... they don't like the idea of citizens caring enough to make their opinions known. You don't know anything about MoveOn if you think we're fringe. We're progressive... scary, huh?

Check the Obama in 30 seconds citizen-produced ads. They've been honed down to the top 15. Wonderful. Witty. Spot-on. The right is deeply frightened that speaking truth to power will successfully engage the populace. We LAUGH and LAUGH at your fear!!!
