Aaron Brown: Olbermann Is "Smarter, Funnier, Better Read, And Eminently More Talented" Than O'Reilly

Aaron Brown is back. Earlier this week, it was reported that he will be joining PBS' "Wide Angle" show and now, in an interview with TVNewser's Gail Shister, he's throwing punches and taking sides in the Olbermann-O'Reilly battle:

Brown says he never felt like a real cable guy. That doesn't exclude him from having opinions about it, thankfully.

His take on the battle at 8 p.m. between MSNBC and Fox News Channel, for example:

Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly "are both larger-than-life figures," he says, but Olbermann is "smarter, funnier, better read and eminently more talented."

Aaron Brown's voice has been missed. I welcome his return, however I wonder if his stance on Blackwater involvement has changed....major disagreement with him on Blackwater involvement...but much has changed since his departure. I also wonder if maybe he doesn't owe Amy Goodman an apology.

I used to watch O'Reilly a few years ago and actually have one of his books, but somewhere along the line I think he went over the edge. I really enjoy Olbermann these days.

I really find that fascinating since the Clinton's are based upon LIES, she pretends she loves the voters and she can relate to them. She dosent' know how to pump gas or dispense a cup of coffee in a gas station.

To me, he's a man of TRUTH. That's the main thing. Everyone has their own opinions of Olbermann but you cannot say he "lies".

Brown overlooked a couple of comparisons.

Olbermann has become every bit as hateful and in love with the sound his own voice as O'Reilly.

Serving up Britney and American Idol during pauses of his righteous indignation, then blaming it on the producers illustrates clearly he is only in it for the money.

Many nights Keith Olbermann demonstrates that he fully understands this concept that seems so foreign to so many others.

I disagree. I'd rather hear both (or five) sides of a story any day. I sure don't want Olberman telling me what's "right", and that's all you get on his show.

The point is, a lie or an untruth is not a side, nor is it an opinion. Most of todays media is full of lies and untruths, and they are treated on an equal level with actual truth and facts because the media has given up completely on trying to distiguish on from the other. Instead, they present the lies and the untruths as legitimate "sides" or opinions...often siding with the lies and untruths.

I want to here all sides as well. But when one of them isn't true, why in the woprld do I need to here it? How is an untruth going to help me make a decision on what I believe? Why would anybody want to here lies and untruths in the news? The media, prior to the right-wing takeover, considered it their job to try to distinguish between fact and fiction. Olberman is one of the few who actually fact check and challenge the fiction. That's what I consider to be their job. Not to find anything, no matter how ficticious, to challenge the truth.

Bill O'Reilly and Faux News (or Fox Opinoin, your choice) in general have a tendency to be the ones who create the lie or untruth "side." And Billo in particular just tells people who disagree with him to "shut up" or just turns off their mic. What kind of an asshole INVITES somebody to his show, tells them to shut up and cuts their mic?

My introduction to Aaron Brown was the time I watched that second plane fly into the World Trace Center. I will never forget what a calming voice he was in the madness of that time.

When he was forced to leave CNN, my whole family really missed him. And why still have Wolf Blitzer??? Aaron Brown is worth 100 Wolf Blitzers.

Olbermann never has anyone on his show with a different point of view from him. He is a coward and he is so jealous of Bill O'Reilly it is pathetic. Olbermann's ratings are no where near as high as O'Reilly's.

I wonder how much of KO's share of the market has gone down since he have his totally unfair special comment about Hillary Clinton, pointing his finger at the camera and saying "Mrs Clinton you must denounce Gerry Ferraro in the strongest terms." If that wasn't enough to give up viewing KO, which I did, his follow up interview with Obama was. In that softball interview with Sen Obama about Rev. Wright, KO did not question how Obama could have gone to Wright's church for 20 years and not hear any of the objectionable sermons....a claim he made that same Friday in a Huffpost post. In the comments to that post, it was apparent that many did not believe that claim of Obama, and it was also clear many regulars viewers of KO had stopped watching him.

I really miss Aaron Brown's newspaper gig, the thing at the end of his show where he shared headlines from newspapers around the country, reminding everyone that it begins with the written word. He was too subtle for cable, too laid back — you know, come to think of it, Charles Kuralt's old Sunday show on CBS would have been the perfect venue for Aaron Brown, who, though less folksy than the much missed Kuralt, possesses nonetheless the intelligence and wit to pull off television composed as much of pauses and silences as explosions and car chases.

I'm going to give his new show a viewing or two.
