Airplane

Drivers have long known that slowing down on the highway means getting more miles to the gallon. Now airlines are trying it, too -- adding a few minutes to flights to save millions on fuel.

Southwest Airlines started flying slower about two months ago, and projects it will save $42 million in fuel this year by extending each flight by one to three minutes.

Interesting...the people interviewed in this article seem OK with this conservation strategy. Gee...I wonder what would happen if someone in Washington asked americans to slow down to conserve a little fuel? I remain amazed at how fast people continue to drive. I'm no slow-poke but I was on an expressway outside of Chicago the other morning and people were passing me in SUVs driving 90+ mph! I guess it doesn't hurt enough yet.

I wonder how many airline CEOs and other top officials are taking a pay cut. Oh ... that's right....pay cuts and layoffs start at the bottom with the working class joe six pack and sally housecoat.

Did You Know.

"In the landmark civil fraud case against Bill Clinton in Los Angeles, where the former President is charged with defrauding a Hollywood dot com millionaire to help Hillary Clinton obtain more than $1.2 million from him for her 2000 Senate campaign, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aurelio Munoz ruled on Friday, April 25, 2008 that Hillary Clinton would not be required to testify in a sworn deposition as a material witness in the case until AFTER the November election!." paulvclinton.comm)

Here is the kicker - the judge is a Bill Clinton appointee!

I’m curious, just what does this have to do with airlines cutting fuel costs? Perhaps you errantly posted it in the wrong forum.

You can only slow down so much in an aircraft. An airplane has a "best range" speed and anything slower than that actually uses more gas.
