CBS:

Chicago friends of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Sen. Barack Obama say both men are simply sad following a controversy and eventual falling out that came to a head Tuesday. Just how did the battle of wills play out behind the scenes?

CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports Obama felt betrayed and Wright felt sand-bagged. Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church said he has been speaking to both men as the events of the past 24 hours unfolded.

The crucial question is whether Jeremiah Wright believes his own rhetoric. If he does, how can he silently endure being branded a whacko by the man he helped raise to some very high heights?

The ingratitude displayed by Obama this week is staggering to an outsider, and must be deeply hurtful to Wright and Wright's friends and associates at Trinity.

But even more hurtful is having your worldview dismissed by a close friend as a series of "rants" before an audience of millions around the globe. I don't think there is a parallel episode in American political history, and I am certain this drama is far from played out.

O'Bambi to Wright: I'm sorry you're a left wing loon who couldn't keep his yap shut until after I was elected.

Wright: I'm sorry you're a closet Marxist.

By the way these post are going I guess many on here have never had a true friend or relationship.that caused you heartache. So sad, maybe then you could empathize with another. Think what you may but, I applaud Sen. Obama for being brought to faith and having an understanding of what it is, unlike those who constantly bring up 20 years. What relationships have you stayed in even though you knew they went against your belief in hopes of showing someone something different.

Also this has become no more than a whisper game, fact keep changing or intentionally being ignore.

What I want to know is why is it that the only Blacks who White Americans will embrace as patriotic citizens are all black Uncle Toms?

Maybe because all of the black leaders that use the term "Uncle Tom" sound like loons. I get the criticism, but the execution is lacking. Obama has definitely been called a Tom before, but that doesn't stop the white folks from trying to paint him as a crazy black extremist. I guess "Tom" is in the eye of the beholder.

Because they can't face the truth that America was based on white supremacy, and continues to practice it . By staying in denial they can congratulate themselves for deserving their success , instead facing their willingness to trample on others to get it..

I don't get it - either way Obama looks bad,. With the first scenario he went to church, had long talks with Wright , his spiritual mentor but never learned anything from it ( B.O. said in Alabama that racial equality was 90% achieved!?) which would be a shame cuz Wright is one smart guy.

or, he agrees with Wright but is capable of being disingenuous long enough to get in place and makes some real changes. in the hope of getting in and changing things.

Personally I hope it's the second, but his comments on the Sean Bell murder seem to indicate it's number one.'"We're a nation of laws, so we respect the verdict that came down," said Obama, when asked about the case by reporters in Indiana. "Resorting to violence to express displeasure over a verdict is something that is completely unacceptable and is counterproductive." That was it.

Or - now I know this is crazy- Obama was capable of listening to Wright's sermons and having his own thoughts and opinions AT THE SAME TIME. I know, I know... how is it possible that hearing words doesn't make you automatically agree with them? How is it possible that a person can have a complex relationship with their pastor when we all know everything is black and white. Certainly this is how I live my life, everyone fits into one category (good), or the other (evil). This has made it difficult for me when I invariably have to end one relationship after another because everyone ends up 'evil' eventually, but at least I know I'm pure. Good grief!

I would agree with you but both Obama and his wife have had said things (on the record) that are of the same philosophy as Mr Wright.

Hillary Clinton is a lesbian who had an affair with her secretary. At least that is what they'll say (they've said it before).

That's just the tip of the iceberg for Republicans if she wins the nomination.

If you saw what they were selling at the CPAC, you would know it isn't Barack they want to face in November.

I agree that the Repugs want HRC. Any time you hear Dick Cheney talking about how she'd make a formidable candidate on the morning TV shows (as he did some months back. sorry, I don't have a link handy) you know they're praying she's the nominee. This has been out there for a long time. If HRC runs against McSame, all the Repug lunatic wing-nuts (aka, the party base) will show up to vote against her. Their hate for HRC is greater than their disdain for McSame.

BTW, sorry, but I don't think the lesbian stuff adds anything to the discussion. I'm mad as hell at HRC for her selfish, destructive behavior and at Bubba and all the Clinton-otons for doing her extra super dirty work (that she can't do herself, since she'd have to give up all pretence of respectability). But, we're no better than any of that if we start with the highschool locker room name calling. Save your fire for directly ridiculing the knuckle-draggers, trolls and Neo Con-Artists.

Wright looks like he's just warming up and you can tell he loves to talk.I can just see the Repugs trotting him out at crucial moments and urging him to expound on his views.

If Wright goes public again saying negative things about Obama then he will move himself from the mere "crazy uncle" category to the downright "mean and vindictive" category. That will actually benefit Obama.

If Obama supporters would stop posting responses to crap about Wright he would go away a lot faster......you will never ever change these fools minds so why waste the time trying...if you ignore the whining child long enough they stop because they aren't getting the response they want.......stop responding and just let the fools talk to themselves.

Oh, I get it - He condemned him after he didn't condemn him. Sounds like John Kerry.

Obama is a liar. He condemns Wright's comments after Wright's bigoted and anti-American display this week and Obama claimed that he didn't realize until this week about Wright's attitude! That's of course after sitting in the church for decades, having him for a mentor, etc. Obama was well aware of what Wright is all about and lied to us when he initially tried to blame the media for out of context video, snippets, etc. That turned out to be total bull.

Obama has no principles. He condemns Wright only AFTER Wright calls Obama a politician (liar). So Obama really wasn't condemning Wright's bigoted and anti-American statements, he was just lashing back at his pastor for personal reasons.

Bla, bla, bla. Sorry bb, that dog just won't hunt. Nice handle. Did you just troll by to grace us with your (HRC talking points) wisdom? You can type this nonsense until your fingers fall off, but the only people who will listen to it are the ones who would never vote for Obama in the first place. No one who thinks about this honestly, gets to know what Obama stands for and listens to what he has to say, will ever fall for this steaming pile of fertilizer.

What do you think would be the practical effects of Barack's relationship with Wright if he should win the presidency?

Goose-egg! That's what.

The only people worked up about it wouldn't vote for Barack, anyway and they should get a grip on their priorities.

For all you nay sayers out there, if you think racism is not an issue, note how the government diagnosed the Obama campaign and prescribed extra-strength secret service detail to him and NONE to McCain.

What's this about Northwestern U cancelling Wright's honorary degree? Sounds like "piling on."

I can't stand when people jump on a bandwagon like that.

Wright may be a little whacko but they gave him the dregree and they can't back off after the fact. Too bad and too late. He ought to sue them for defamation of character.

Believe me, I am no fan of what Wright's sound bites said but that's as far as it goes.

Since most posters here likely do not listen to Black radio, do not read the Black press, or even generally listen to Black people at all, here is a most apt commentary (by Dennis Perrin) on what goes on in those media.

"Listening to black talk radio yesterday was like entering a parallel universe. Rev. Wright's comments were not controversial, nor were any of the hosts and callers surprised by white people's reactions. Some actually pitied whites for being so deluded about the country they dominate. And nearly everyone predicted that Obama would denounce and distance himself from Wright, as that was the only political choice he could make. They weren't happy about that, but they accepted it as part of the American deal, and nearly all whom I heard intend to vote for Obama in the general election (assuming Hillary finally sinks). I don't know if Wright's concept of white brains versus black brains has any scientific merit, but the difference was sparkling clear to me yesterday. Then again, I'm extremely solipsistic."

Barack Obama, "We all knew that this would be an improbable journey". It amazes me how a black man have to denouce another black man. Further, no hoopla over these two idiots, Rick Parsley and John Hagee. Also, can anyone tell me if Rev. Wright touch any little boys! Can anyone spell double standard! Well my fellow Americans be very careful of the American Media. They do have blood on their hands: 4,000 dead soldiers and 600,000 murdered IRAQS. You can go and take this to the bank.
