I Like ItI Don’t Like It

NEW YORK — Mayor Michael Bloomberg called a summer-long suspension of the gas tax favored by Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton and Republican John McCain a dumb idea.

The New York mayor, who flirted with the idea of an independent presidential bid, praised Democrat Barack Obama for opposing the plan to suspend the 18.4 cent federal gas tax and 24.2 cent diesel tax during the peak driving months of the summer.

All three candidates covet Bloomberg's endorsement. The mayor has spoken highly of Obama and McCain in introducing the two at recent events in New York.

Speaking to reporters at City Hall, Bloomberg said of the gas tax holiday, "It's about the dumbest thing I've heard in an awful long time, from an economic point of view. We're trying to discourage people from driving and we're trying to end our energy dependence ... and we're trying to have more money to build infrastructure."

He cited those three reasons for opposing the gas tax holiday favored by McCain and Clinton. Obama has said the savings would not be significant for the average individual, and Bloomberg agreed.

"The 30 bucks is not going to change anybody's lifestyle," he said. "The billions of dollars that we would otherwise have in tax revenues can make a big difference as to what kind of a world we leave our children."

The billionaire mayor said in February that he had decided not to run for president but has dangled the possibility of his endorsement. The Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent has ties to all three candidates.

I've got a better idea that would not only make a bigger impact but also be well received by the voting public. Instead of a moratorium on the gas tax, how about a moratorium on the income tax.

Yes, because borrowing even more money from China is in our best interests and isn't selling out the future generations for our own selfish short-term gain.

Bloomberg on Hillary's gas tax holiday: "Dumbest thing I've heard"

That's because Hillary is pandering to her base: Dumb people.

I don't mean to be insensitive, but come on, it's true. Hillary has been appealing to the least educated and dumbest among us, and doing exceptionally well among this demographic.

The Obama/Clinton primary is largely an IQ test.

John McCain and Hillary Clinton are proving themselves to be the Mr. and Mrs. Id of America.

Bread and circuses for the masses, fiddling as icebergs melt.

Hillary will say anything to get elected. The gas tax holiday is no real solution, and it's exactly the kind of dumb political scam americans have been duped by in the past. That's why in over 20 years there hasn't been any real move away from overseas dependency on oil. Hillary continues the old-style b.s. sham politics. Im glad Bloomberg and other experts are weighing in and letting voters know what a con the tax holiday would be. Indiana and NC don't be fooled...

I watched the interview Blitzer had with Carly Fiorina, one of Mc Cains economic advisors at 3pm today. Blitzer asked Fiorina how the lost revenue for the gas tax holiday would be made up and she replied "from the general fund". It took Jack Cafferty only a few seconds to come on and say "there is no general fund". Blitzer replied it would mean the government would have to borrow more money.

This Just In: Clinton proves she's just like Bush,no need to consult Experts!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:25 PM on 05/01/2008

Clinton doesn't need to listen to experts! This is the Clinton of old, in the WH all over again: I-know-best. This was why health care revamp missed the boat in 1993 and during the rest of Clinton's WH years. She is all humble as a junior senator but as soon as she is in the WH again, watch out! All of the policies she is touting around to get votes may not see the light of day through Congress due to her character of I-know-best. Hillary is expert of everything from economy to health to education to national security to foreign affairs to how to become multimillionaire once you leave the WH. The only thing she is not expert is how to stop Bill from playing around!

Sir the experts have tried to tell her do you really think she's gonna listen to you? We're talking about a soldier who marches to the beat of her own drum. She doesn't need some articulate, smart, accomplished rich billionaire telling her that she's oooo so wrong.

Regardless of how much sense Bloomberg, Pelosi and others make of this flawed Gas Tax Plan, it doesn't matter. Both Hillary's and McCain's followers ignore facts. They're the same people who were expertly manipulated by Karl Rove and the least popular president in US history - so victimized by decades of lies and manipulation that the concept of "change" is beyond their comprehension. Watch how they respond to this post with frothy illogic not unlike your typical WWF fan.

Obama supporters should reach out to the brainwashed supporters of Hillary and gently coax them back to reality. The Age of Enlightenment can return but only through a velvet revolution that undermines the media.
