WASHINGTON — A leader of the Democratic Party under Bill Clinton switched his allegiance to Barack Obama on Thursday and urged fellow Democrats to end the bruising nomination fight.

"This has got to come to an end," former Democratic National Committee Chairman Joe Andrew told reporters in his hometown of Indianapolis just days before Tuesday's crucial state primary. He said he planned to call all the other superdelegates he knows and encourage them to back Obama.

Bill Clinton appointed Andrew chairman of the DNC in 1999, and he led the party through the disputed 2000 presidential race before stepping down in 2001. Andrew endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton last year on the day she declared her candidacy for the White House.

In a lengthy letter explaining his decision, Andrew said he is switching his support because "a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists (Republican) John McCain."

"The ship is taking on water right now," Andrew said at the news conference. "We need to patch those holes, heal the rift and go forward to beat John McCain."

Asked for a response to Andrew's decision, Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said, "We support that Democratic process and think that every American should be able to weigh in and support the candidate of his or her own choosing."

Andrew said the Obama campaign never asked him to switch his support, but he decided to do so after watching Obama's handling of two issues in recent days. He said Obama took the principled stand in opposing a summer gas tax holiday that both Clinton and McCain supported, even though it would have been easier politically to back it. And he said he was impressed with Obama's handling of the controversy surrounding his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Wright's outspoken criticisms of the United States have threatened Obama's candidacy. Obama initially refused to denounce his former pastor, but he did so this week after Wright suggested that Obama secretly agrees with him.

"He has shown such mettle under fire," Andrew said in the interview. "The Jeremiah Wright controversy just reconfirmed for me, just as the gas tax controversy confirmed for me, that he is the right candidate for our party."

Andrew's decision puts Obama closer to closing Clinton's superdelegate lead. Clinton had a big advantage among superdelegates, many of whom like Andrew have ties to the Clintons and backed her candidacy early on. But most of the superdelegates taking sides recently have gone for Obama, who has won more state contests.

That includes DNC member John Patrick, vice president of the Texas AFL/CIO, who announced his support for Obama Thursday as well.

Obama now trails her by just 15 superdelegates, 248-263. This week, he picked up 12 superdelegates, including three add-on delegates named by the Illinois Democratic Party, while she netted four.

Superdelegates are nearly 800 elected leaders and Democratic Party officials who aren't bound by the outcome of state contests and can cast their ballot for any candidate at the national convention. They are especially valuable in this race since neither Clinton nor Obama can win enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination through state-by-state elections.

Obama now leads in the delegate count overall 1736.5 to 1597.5 for Clinton. A candidate needs 2,025 delegates to win the nomination. About 230 superdelegates remain undecided, and about 60 more will be selected at state party conventions and meetings throughout the spring.

Other party leaders are encouraging superdelegates to pick a side by late June to prevent the fight from going to the national convention in August. Andrews wrote in his letter that he is calling for "fellow superdelegates across the nation to heal the rift in our party and unite behind Barack Obama."

It's the second endorsement for Obama this week that could be influential in Indiana. Rep. Baron Hill, who represents a crucial swing district in the state, endorsed Obama on Wednesday. Clinton has the backing of Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, who has a vast organization in the state and has been campaigning aggressively with the former first lady.

Obama and Clinton are running close in Indiana and both need a victory there _ Obama to help rebound from a loss to Clinton in Pennsylvania and to prove he can win Midwestern voters, and Clinton so she can overcome Obama's lead in the race overall.

This is what is happening today, nice try.

April 25, 2008

Hillary will not be deposed until after the election. Don't panic, it will be okay. Yes, of course, it was a political consideration. Disney did not release THE PATH TO 911 on DVD to protect Hillary.

Judge Aurelio Munoz, who appears rather friendly with Clinton attorney David Kendall, requested that Kendall say hello to a friend named Bill at Kendall's firm, Connolly and Williams. Munoz went to law school with him. Isn't that nice.

Even though Hillary will be delayed, there will be numerous witnesses who have important things to say. They include defendants former President Bill Clinton and Jim Levin, Chelsea Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, Gov. Ed Rendell, Gray Davis, Howard Wolfson, Kelly Craighead, Andrew Grossman, Patti Solis Doyle, Larry King, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Diana Ross, John Travolta, Brad Pitt, Stan Lee, Haim Saban, and many others.

Even before her testimony, the voters will learn about her obstruction of justice and the false FEC reporting. Perhaps a sitting federal judge and an assistant US Attorney will be subpoeaned. Are you listening Clinton-appointed Judge A. Howard Matz, you who pulled off the legal equivalent of the 1919 Black Sox in the David Rosen trial?

I have wondered why this case hasn't gotten any press... but i would add to your plea and say

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TALK TO THE CANDIDATES ABOUT POLICY INSTEAD OF THESE RIDICULOUS DISTRACTION STORIES???? I am so sick of hearing about Wright and flag pins and bowling scores!

Oh and the "elitist" label, how is it that Bill Clinton, the Ivy league educated multi-millionaire is the "common man" and Obama is an elitist? If Obama had a southern accent would he be a common man too?

Because of his attitude. And his policies aren't exactly FDR, you know? Imagine if Bill Bradley could have spoken well. Same old crap about bipartisanship and the "end of ideology." There's only one time to end "ideology," and that's when you've won.

It could also be that Andrew, who is an Indianan, saw this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-MzByUHIzw&feature=email

and didn't approve of being called sh.t by Hillary's aide. Hecck, a lot of us resent beinng held in such contempt that she thinks it fine to lie and cheat constantly. By the way, the related video on Hilary's Republiccan roots is good. The one "I want it now" has some of her blatant contradictions, and people might like to see what she has really done for New York.

Magnequench.

Pres. Clinton authorized the sale of this Indiana-based manufacturing facility to Chinese interests.
Mrs. Clinton 'forgets' that part.

Is that part of her 35 years of experience?
I mean, what is and what isn't.

More confusion on what the meaning of is is?

Who is Joe Andrew these days? It turns out Insurance lobbying forms are behind his switch over in order to defeat Universal Health Insurance Coverage for all the people.

Joe Andrew works for Washington lobbying firm (Sonnenschein Dot com) whose office is run mainly from fees paid by Insurance Companies. Everyone one knows these Insurance Companies are dead against Universal Health Insurance Coverage for all the people.

These insurance companies are in full speed in support of Obama now. It is becoming clearer and clearer now, Obama candidacy is also in the pocket of Insurance Companies. They want to kill Universal Health Insurance for all the people. They also know if Obama is the nominee, he can not win in the general election. If McCain wins, they also win. These are all pre-planned by the Insurance Companies. First lap dog they are sending to represent them is Joe Andrew. Beware!

If you believe Universal Health Coverage is your right, you need to investigate further on your own about Joe Andrew and his lobbying firm.

Andrew is another Judas as James Carville would call him. All these loyal Clinton friends are turning towards Obama all because of their own political motives. I would not like to have friends like Andrew and Richardson and others who call themselves friends and that too loyal friends and then stab you in the back. I would not like such friends in a thousand years. Hillary may not win the nomination but I still feel that she would be the better candidate who would make a better President.
Rev. Wright was nothing compared to what the Republican machine will throw at Obama if he gets the nomination. Hillary will be the tougher opponent having gone through a lot over the years. I think that McCain can defeat Obama but not win against Hillary.

Wow, I never knew being friends with a politician meant one had to blindly support them. Oh wait, they dont.

As far as the tired arguement that what Hillary is dishing out is nothing to what the repubs will, thats a pile of crap. The Clinton machine is renowned for it's ability to get down and dirty and the republicans are'nt going to throw anything Hillary hasn't tried to fling already.

HILLARY HAS LOST THE ENTIRE BLACK VOTE....FOREVER !!!

This is the message being sent by blacks to the DNC (and the superdelegates). There is no way Hillary will defeat McCain without the support of Black America aka the guaranteed Democratic vote. Hillary started out with 82% of the black support. But as Blacks learned more about her (Goldwater Girl...Against Civil Rights Act '64....It was LBJ...Not MLK....etc) combined with Bill's (...fairy tale....Jessie Won S.C. too...etc.)...blacks were shocked beyond repair. (remember....we luved Bill so much we called him 'The First Black President')....but never again....WHERE'S THAT STORY. This has nothing to do with Obama !!!! We (blacks) have awakened to the truth about the Clintons......

Greg Jones
www.Blacks4Barack.org
(A Multi-Racial, Grassroots Org...Dedicated To Truth)

p.s. Blacks4Barack.org started in Feb. 2007 (Greg Jones) when VERY few blacks were for Obama.....they were ALL for Hillary !!!!! We knew that Obama was the best person to run our country and bring our troops home and that is why we started our grassroots organization. (Not because he's black...but because he's most qualified) The more black voters learned about Obama...the more they liked him.... the more they learned about the Clintons....the angrier they got !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We appreciate our friends of ALL races....who are working together....for the very best candidate....to put America on the right track.....Barack Obama ! THANK YOU !

So what you're saying is all the groups Clinton gave up part of her salary so she could devote more time to their causes...they wont back her. But Obama who helped the slum lord Rezko rip off the minorities of Chicago and has never not once in his life done anything for anyone other than himself, will get their support. Well I guess that makes sense....to Bush supporters.

sue or sew--it is a ridiculous comment made by someone who is ignorant about politics. Obama is being lead around by his handlers and they are telling him what to do, when to do it, and who to do it to. Let's get that straight right now. Obama is a puppet, along the same lines as George W. Bush and Hillary is not. So who would you want in office if you were a Kennedy, or a Pelosi? You'd want an Obama, because he can be controlled by them. There is no other good reason that they would go over the top of their own voter blocks who were heavily in favor of Hillary. Give me a break. This election is all about $$$

WASHINGTON -- When Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill endorsed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, she said she'd found a candidate who "gives us a reason to believe again."
Obama believed in her, too, donating $10,000 from his political action committee to her 2006 campaign. She received nothing from New York Sen. Hillary Clinton's PAC.

On Charlie Rose last night, Rose asked Gov. Easley of NC if he'd ever talked to Obama or allowed Obama to try to persuade him. Easley said no. Rose pointed out that one reason Easley had said he was supporting Clinton was because he had met her and liked her personally. Rose asked why he wouldn't want to meet with Obama. Easley didn't have much of an answer. If someone WANTS to close their mind, like Easley, I suppose that's their right. But it's also true that Andrew and others certainly do not have to close theirs.

If you don't know about something, you are ignorant. If you don't know about something and you desire to remain ignorant, you're stupid.
