Could someone please help me out with my question: With all that we the people know about what this administration has done, why won't our democratic congress pursue impeachment of him and Cheney? This is not a rhetorical question. If there is someone here that is familiar with constitutional law and such could help me out, please feel free to explain to me. Thanks.

Simply the Dems don't have 67 votes in the Senate, which is needed for conviction, otherwise Bush and Chaney will go on just as Clinton did.

Even if that was so, why can't they just "attempt" to impeach as I signal to US citizens and the world that we the people feel have felt violated by this administration for the past 8 years? I don't want this idiot to just go down in history as a bad president. I want it written in the history books that at least our congress "tried" to get him out. It's unsettling that the history books will reflect that he was just a bad president. He is WORSE than that...

I think that is a Dem excuse. If they went forward, you would find out how few Dems support an impeachment. Think DiFi would support it.......or Pelosi...or that idiot Congressman from Simi who was quoted in today's LA. Times as not wanting to drive a Prius because it wasn't made in America.

I don't understand how you can believe there are grounds to impeach anyone. On what charge? Real charges, not the fact that you feel bitterness.
But moreover, what is the point of your questioning? Why is the election of a successor not sufficient relief? One would think this would be the happy era for Bush's critics ... his term is soon to close.

It's too late and politically risky to start impeachment proceedings against Bush, Cheney, et. al. Besides, the Dems don't even have enough democrats that would vote for impeachment. Legally, there's nothing keeping the House from starting an impeachment inquiry.

Sadly, WE THE PEOPLE have a short attention span and future generations should know just how bad this administration has been. He deserves much more than just being a "bad president". It's sickening that it is written in the history books that Clinton was impeached for getting a blowjob and lying about, but Bush will be known as just a "bad president".

I've been gone for awhile so I'll start from here.

Retroactive PUNISHMENT is unconstitutional,

but if we can grant immunity retroactively, we

can also sign international accords similarly.

International laws regarding war crimes are

already in place, therefor we are not making

any new laws covering past deeds, get it???

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:43 PM on 05/01/2008

Retroactive PROSECUTION is unconstitutional. You can't go back and make something a crime that was committed in the past.

That is why, even if we were to join the World Court, Bush and Co. could not be prosecuted there.

Bush's crimes would have had to be prosecutable under World Court rules when the crimes were committed.

That's their argument but as neocons constantly prove,

the law is interpreted by those in charge. We have to

get past this idea that we are required to be prim and

proper while they commit treason and mass murder.

This is a mortal struggle, not an abstract discussion.

What BushCo clearly did was a crime at the time they were committed.

The trials at Nuremberg were not concerned if and when Japan and/or

Germany had signed anything. The winners of WW2 were both judge

and jury and convicted for the same thing that BushCo now calls legal.

Hmmm you mean people don't like a liar, mass murderer, war criminal and traitor that has crippled the economy?

The truly amazing thing is that despite the serious damage this malevolent idiot has done to this country and the world, 28% of the public still supports him. The question needs to be asked. What in the world is wrong with them?

It's hard for Republicans to come to terms with the fact that they have been consistently lied to and brainwashed by the GOP and their lackeys in the media. They're in denial. Admitting that they had bad judgement is not something they want to face.

A siginificant minority of that 28% believe it or not are the neo-cons who voted for Bush because of his support of Israel and now they are the same ones clammering for bombing Iran, their wet dream. Many of those neo-con traitors come form New York: They don't give a shit about America, only Israel.

I think Bush's unpopularity is exaggerated. First, 30% of America is a lot of people. Even more than the number of people who watch Fox News, especially lately. Second, some of the 70% may not like the job he is doing but still like Bush as a person. Sort of the opposite of Bill Clinton in his final (fatigued) days. Third, it's not really good news to Bush's opponents if conservatives don't like him because he isn't mean enough to Mexicans or he's giving in too much to the "liberal media" on his Iraq policy-- they'd like him better if he were even lousier.

We're still a 50/50 country.

The poll was not measuring Bush's popularity as a person; it was measuring his popularity as a President. Half of the people who voted for him in 2000, said they did so because he was someone they could drink a beer with, and now that seems to be all that he was good for. In 2004, they voted for him because Rove had convinced them that the biggest threat to America was gays! Meanwhile, as President, he has given us an unwarranted war (based on lies) with no end in sight, a failing economy that has obliterated the middle class, a nation more polarized than in recent memory, and of course tax breaks for the wealthy, who are probably the 30% of Americans who still support him! Between Bush and the Republican congress that upheld his idiocy, the Republican Party has lost all credibility with the majority of Americans, including many Republicans! All of this is nothing BUT good news for the Democrats!

Perhaps you didn't read the story. It asks people if they thought Bush was doing a good job...it doesn't say a thing about his personhood. 70% of the people think that he is doing a lousy job. This is not an exaggeration. If conservatives don't like Bush because he is not mean enough to Mexicans, they will probably stay home on election day as none of the candidates are as whacked out on that subject as the current president's posse.. Sure hope so.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:10 PM on 05/01/2008

They don't like the job he's doing now, but just show one ABC News special on "progress" in Iraq, or if he magically nabbed bin Laden tomorrow, then *zoom* his ratings would be up again. Half the country is inclined to like him-- half of the half who vote.

Dumbya was a failure in private life as he ran his oil business Arbusto into the ground. Even an investment by the bin Laden family couldn't save him. That's right, the bin Laden family. Dumbya was also involved with some insider information problems with Harkin Oil, but daddy Poppy bailed him out, much like he did for brother Neil in the savings and loan fiasco. Dumbya couldn't even handle a cushy job with the Texas Air National Guard without succumbing to coke and booze and going AWOL. How did Scalia and Thomas figure that Dumbya would be a good President? They are the two major reasons why we have the dolt as Commander in Chief. Scalia had TWO sons on the Bu$h legal team, while Thomas' wife was on the Bu$h transition team. Do you think their votes should have counted in the vote to GIVE Dumbya the Presidency? Most legal scholars think not. But they helped coronate Dumbya. The incompetent idiot that has given us the worst 7 plus years this country has ever gone through. LIES & CORRUPTION. DEATH & DESTRUCTION. TORTURE & ILLEGAL WIRETAPPING SESSIONS. RECESSION & DEPRESSION. And we should have known. History has told us that it would happen.

One should point out that half the people being polled presumably voted against Bush and hence were never supporters to begin with. What the poll shows is that Bush's rating has dropped markedly among moderates and conservatives.
Personally, I put no stock in the poll either way. What goes up can come down and vice versa. The real question of significance will be how Bush is viewed after the outcome of events can be known many, many years hence, Post-Iraq.
I'm not making any predictions, by the way. Just trying to introduce some moderation into the hate fest.

It doesn't take years know the outcome of events when it comes to Bush and the complicit Republican Party. FEMA was destroyed and we all saw it with Katrina. America changed from protecting the innocent to torturing and we all saw it at Abu Gahrab. Oil went from $20 a barrel to $120 a barrel and we all saw it. Bush lied about Iraq and we all saw it. and on and on and on. Environmental protection? Consumer protection? His unpopularity is only because more people are seeing the truth. Sometimes "moderation" is just a lie when the truth is staring you in the face.

When you realize that only slightly more than half the eligible people actually do vote, and only about half of the population is eligible to vote, only a quarter of the population actually vote for or against him. So Bush's 30% approval is in keeping with the votes he received.

The headline is referring to his unpopularity in this country. Imagine what his, and our country's, unpopularity in the rest of the world is.

I suspect that if Al Qaeda wanted to put up a recruitment poster, it would be a smiling picture of Dubya, with Cheney learing from behind him.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:33 PM on 05/01/2008

But why is the reverse not also true? Why is bin Laden not a recruitment asset here? Maybe the fact that bin Laden cannot recruit as well over here as Bush can recruit over there is part of the reason that "our country is unpopular in the rest of the world." Maybe what we lack is respect -- of the sort given to those who stand up for what they believe.

When you're all giving your generous stimulus check to the oil companies in higher gasoline prices, think about it. Calling them stimulus checks was pretty clever when all they are is money borrowed from Saudi Arabia given to Exxon, etc. with the American public as the middleman. Money laundering with us all in on it. Genius. Bush is not the dummy we all think. His oil buddies have made off with all the booty that used to be a prosperous America.
