India's Baby-Dropping Ritual (VIDEO)

Believers in western India have been observing a bizarre ritual - they've been throwing their young children off a tall building to improve their health. The faithful have been observing the ritual at a shrine in Solapur, in western India's Maharastra, for more than five hundred years. They believe it will make their children strong and say no accidents have ever happened.

I have just replied to you and i can see my reply . the cutting of those children is NOT I repeat is NOT in the Quran . it is NOT practiced by 90% of the Muslims (sunnis ) only Shias do it , not because islam tells them to do it , but because they mourn a religious leader close to their hearts . Was thinking about my own father, tossing my younger siblings up into the air when they were babies. Am sure I got tossed--just don't remember it. When Dad did this, the babies would laugh like little maniacs and wanted more, more, more. Despite my mother's protests, he continued to do this until he tossed one of my brothers a bit too high, and the poor little weenie hit the kitchen ceiling. Thereafter, Dad stopped the tossing and took to flying his babies around the room, firmly held by two hands, while chanting: "Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound! It's....SU­PERBABY."

My Dad was not demented. I've seen lots of other men do this, and am thinking it has something to do with teaching a child about independence? Mothers are close huggers, nuturing and protective, adverse to exposing baby to risk. Fathers teach their children about taking chances and losing the fear of flying. Maybe????
