Baby Drop

Believers in western India have been observing a bizarre ritual - they've been throwing their young children off a tall building to improve their health. The faithful have been observing the ritual at a shrine in Solapur, in western India's Maharastra, for more than five hundred years. They believe it will make their children strong and say no accidents have ever happened.

Another example of religion running amuck, and people just not being able to discern some common sense.

Again, this is a cultural practice and not an Islamic one. Please become more informed before posting.

Barbaric!
Children should not be subjected to any religious practices until they're old enough to decided for themselves. Of course, then the brainwashing would have less power.

And before one gets too judgmental, think about cutting off foreskins.

Whatever you say, throwing a child off a building is the same as a circumcision performed by a doctor. Liberals always try to find a way to make us look just as bad.

Well, I wouldn't be too upset if they were just throwing foreskins off the building, but it looks like the babies in this video are attached to their foreskins.

lol - So I take it you're of the mind to separate the child from his foreskin prior to dropping. Interesting concept.

For some reason the "uncouchables" were never enslaved and never lynched. That takes a Christian to do that.

BTW.. Brahmins are less than 3% of the population if 3% can tyrannize the other 97% lower caste.. that must be something.

Usual Commies freaks here at Huffington Post!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:41 PM on 05/01/2008

What is your point in referring to Christians and "commies freaks?" India has/had both slavery and ritualized killing.

No they did not. Brahmins made others social outcasts..which means they don't marry or socoailize with otehrs.. More in the lines of the Amish people.

Not like 100 years of slavery and 50 years of lynching.

No soup for you!

The title should "India's MUSLIM baby throwing ritual",. As usual the lefties leave out anything negative about Muslims! Freaks!

The reporter said it was also other religions across india that did it too.

I really wish someone "in the know" would explain why these folks believe terrifying a baby makes it stronger.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:28 PM on 05/01/2008

Yeah, its like throwing them in the pool to make them learn to swim. Which many do.

I don't see why throwing them of buildings doesn't make them learn to fly. Makes sense that it would, no?

LOL

You may have something there. Forget impeachment. Toss Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfewitz, Rove off the Washington Monument into the Reflecting Pool. If they float, they are guilty of heresy. If they sink, they are guilty of heresy.

What really happens when the kid hits the ground? A miracle child? Why don't the adults jump off the buildings with the kids so the experience will improve them also since their faith is so boundless? This sure beats snake handling in the Appalachians! In China, the task of birth control is simply to crush the full term fetus head, then removing it and disposal follows. Don't need tall buildings for tossing kids off to their fate.

I think so too.
Before the British outlawed human sacrifice in India the Mother Kali cult would through babies into the shark infested waters where the Ganges goes into the ocean. India has an infamous past when it comes to human sacrifice, and this baby dropping might be a hold over from that.

The Muslim ritual also includes self flagglation (Literally) where young children have beat their own heady bloody.

I understand Osama and Obama are into that!

That's a Shiite practice and not sanctioned by mainstream Islamic scholars. The vast majority of Muslims consider it unlawful.

If you have an objection this the Muslim custom of throwing children off a building when none have ever been hurt, try this piece of news from the Hindu side of India.

"In yet another outrage tied to India’s caste system, Madan Singh, 22, was arrested in Northern India for throwing a six-year-old girl into burning embers when he caught her trespassing. Singh comes from a higher caste while the girl is dalit — the lowest caste"

It's implied in the story that caste was the reasoning of Madan Singh for doing this. Is there any evidence of that?
