INDIANAPOLIS — Early voting in Indiana could offer some encouragement to presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who needs a victory in its upcoming primary after a tough few weeks on the campaign trail.

Obama victories in the Indiana and North Carolina primaries on May 6 could help him regain momentum in his nomination fight against Hillary Rodham Clinton. Obama has been on the defensive because of comments by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and his own comments about people in small towns growing bitter.

About 20 percent of the 127,000-plus absentee ballots received as of early Friday were cast in three Indiana counties _ Marion, Monroe and Lake _ that political observers believe Obama is strongly favored to win.

Lake County has a large population of black voters and is in Chicago's shadow. Obama has typically won big among college-age voters, and Monroe County is the home of Indiana University in Bloomington. Obama's campaign sought out IU students with voter registration and early voting drives and a free Dave Matthews concert.

Robert Dion, a professor of American politics at the University of Evansville, said Obama has mounted an innovative campaign that's stressed early voting and his supporters appear more energized than those for Clinton.

"In a close race, modest advantages in organization can yield big results, and if Obama out-organizes the Clinton campaign on these absentee ballots, it would be a great boost to him," Dion said.

Three other Indiana counties _ St. Joseph, Vanderburgh and Vigo counties _ have amassed more than 20,000 early ballots between them, about 16 percent of the total absentees cast statewide.

Vigo County, which includes Terre Haute, is expected to go for Clinton because of its demographics and connections to popular Sen. Evan Bayh, who has campaigned aggressively with the former first lady.

Political analyst Robert Schmuhl said he senses that Clinton has the advantage heading into Tuesday's primary.

"I think any objective observer would say Senator Clinton has the momentum going into the last few days. In previous primaries she's done well during the final days as the undecided voters have made up their minds," the Notre Dame professor said.

Whatever Tuesday's final vote, Dion said Obama and Clinton are expected to basically split the state's 72 delegates.

"They're fighting over bragging rights," Dion said. "If he wins Indiana as well as North Carolina, which we expect him to win, he can say, 'I won both states.' And that's going to knock the wind out of Hillary Clinton."

Clear and Candid... Like you and Cheney were about the meeting with the energy Czars?

Gas prices, and energy prices are to the roof, if you still have one over your head, and your mortgage hasn't been forclosed. Wanna talk about it? Or is that under Executive Priviledge too?

OBAMA SUPPORTERS:
Use this weekend to help the campaign call Indiana and NC voters in support of Obama. An hour each on Saturday and Sunday could do a lot to get out the vote or persuade some undecideds. And since it's the weekend using your cell phones should be free.

Many oldsters and working class voters don't have as much access to computers and the internet, so the best way to reach such voters is by phone. Tell them why you are supporting Barack and maybe we can sway a few undecideds.

Come'on. If each of us called 20 people in each state, it could do a lot to increase support for our guy Obama. As we both know, these two states could be decisive. We can't take either of them for granted. Contributing money is great, but volunteering is even better. Check the Obama website and then ...

GET ON THE PHONES!!

Please, higher power, Buddha, Jesus, Ganesh, and any other spritual and humanistic energy send positive energy to the campaign in Indiana for Obama.
We need new government!
Enough of old Washington politics and people.
No more Bush/Clinton slimeball yadayada.
We want a fresh, aromatic additive-free government.
Repubs, Independents and Dems ALL for Obama.
YES WE ALL CAN.

That's no spam my dear. It's on ABC news, too. I wonder if Georgie is going to grill Hillo about this the way he wasted 45 minutes trying to scandalize Obama. This goes straight to her most inherent trait-lying.

Someone please tell me, which candidate has promised to:

Repeal the Military Commissions Act as it is an abomination.
The Patriot act as it is contrary to the founding principles of our nation.
The protect America Act for its inherent fascism.
NSPD #51 for it authoritarian principle.

Free Education as it is the lifeblood of our society.
Free health care as it is a fundamental right.

To immediately withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan as they are implicitly Imperialistic and intrinsically illegal.

Or is fear a better method?

I'm afraid it is "none of the above". Many of us seem content with tone and rhetoric without much substance. Unfortunate, isn't it?

In 2006 Clinton voted against a resolution to prohibit the Feds from declaring a disaster or other emergency and confiscating legal fire arms from private citizens. I spent some time in southern Indiana and I don't think they want George Bush, Hillary Clinton or Barach Obama to have that power.

Great news posted from dailykos: Saturday, May 3.

Obama has picked up 5 superdelegates today and at least 2 pledged delegates from Guam.

So far today, Obama has been endorsed by Brian Colon, the Democratic Party Chairman in New Mexico.

Obama also received an endorsement from the South Carolina add-on, former State Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum.

He gained support from Maryland add-on, former Gov. Parris Glendening.

He is also about to pick up:
Jaime Paulino (Guam) - an Obama supporter
Pilar Lujan (Guam) - undecided but on record stating he will support the popular vote winner in Guam.

Meanwhile Clinton picked up:
Maryland add-on, former Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.

Drip drip drip

I'm an Obama supporter and agree that this is a real issue but spamming like this doesn't make something viral, it doesn't work that way.

It just annoys people.

i support your goal but suggest you revise your approach to be more effective.

"2008 election likely to go unsupervised

Congressional gridlock over controversial FEC nominees has paralyzed the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), which currently lacks the quorum it needs to effectively referee elections. A seven-month deadlock over the appointment of four FEC nominees may spell disaster for the 2008 election cycle.

Currently, the FEC is unable to pursue investigations into alleged electoral violations....

At the heart of the Senate impasse is one of the two Republican nominees, an extreme right wing former Justice Department lawyer and Karl Rove lapdog named Hans von Spakovsky. The Democrats consider him a deal breaker and view him as one of the leading forces in the Republican Party's efforts to use the nonexistent fear of voter fraud as a means to disenfranchise minority--and largely Democratic--voters. The Democrats have been unwilling to vote for a group of nominees that includes von Spakovsky--and the Republicans have refused to withdraw his nomination."

We need to write our elected representatives and demand that Rethuglicans withdraw this criminal's nomination.

I wish ordinary citizens would do a paper count in their districts and hold these machines to task.Obama wins when there is a paper ballot,Hillary despite exit polls showing contrary results seems to win when machines are used.Mayor Bloomberg called fraud in NJ and the story never made prime time and in fact the story was suppressed.People have to take their ballots seriously enough to monitor them.

PART 3
B Clinton could have blocked the sale to the Chinese and yet chose not to. Whether that failure by the Clinton Administration to act was tied to alleged Chinese fund raising for Bill Clinton's reelection is not clear. Had he blocked the acquisition those 225 jobs would most likely have remained in Indiana. The actual moving of the company overseas (with the resultant loss of American jobs) did occur in 2003 under the Bush Administration but would not have happened without the Clinton Administration's 1995 approval.

The loss of the Magnequench jobs in Indiana was a direct result of Bill Clintons faillure to act to protect foreign acquisition of defense technology. Hillary Clinton needs to look closer to home before she blames this all on Bush.
