John Gibson Mocks Rachel Maddow's Sexuality: "Ooh, Lesbians! Yummy!"

On his radio show yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson made fun of Air America host/MSNBC analyst Rachel Maddow, playing a clip that says "Ooh, lesbians! Yummy!" after airing audio of her discussing media coverage of Jeremiah Wright. Maddow is a lesbian.

Gibson came under public attack after mocking Heath Ledger's death on his radio show in January.

I’m a straight, married, white man so I understand that I have no credibility in this debate. Nonetheless:

Firstly, John Gibson is beneath awful and should be beaten with a frozen club of barnyard dung.

Secondly, the “pang” issue is much ado about nothing. Your reaction is more representative of a problem than the comments that inspired it.

Personally, I keep all of my “she’s a fox” comments to myself, but I’m not intending to speak for everyone. The simple point is that if we extend your logic any further, or to any other group, any sense of regret is to be taken as an occult intolerance for the lifestyle of another person.

If a single woman were to meet me and find me attractive (a rare feat) she would be out of luck since I am happily married and intend to stay that way. However, her natural disappointment (and it would be perfectly natural) would not be a condemnation of the fact that I had chosen to marry or to remain monogamous.

Similarly, if a gay man were to fall into the same unlikely trap of my apparently (and fictitiously) inexorable charm, is he condemning my spouse and my heterosexuality if he becomes disappointed?

You are looking for offense where none exists by making statements of pointless indignation when you try to apply them to the rest of the universe.

You clearly have no idea of the myriad ways in which men enforce patriarchal norms against women who don't comply with expected norms. (Hint: violence and threats of same are the standard MO.) It all starts with the "pang" of the "unattainable". And what if this good poster DIDN'T "decide to honor her life choices"? What then?

Our society certainly is patriarchal inflicts its models and preferred behaviors on women. I’m helping to raise two daughters in a world that objectifies, socially demotes and hyper-sexualizes women; I have more than a little genuine concern on this topic.

My point – utterly missed, it seems – is that to want a thing which you cannot have is not a form of aggression or subjugation. The “pang” is no more offensive for wanting a gay woman than it is for wanting a straight man, a gay man or a straight woman. It can no more be a form of imposition than any other unfulfilled want unless it is acted upon in a way that has some real effect; and having a pang doesn’t do that. Disappointment is not condemnation and it is most certainly not a catalyst to violence or aggression.

You have essentially rephrased the biblical prohibition on being covetous in your first act.

As for ‘sinister’ go to dictionary.com and look at the fourth definition. Given how badly you maligned the other poster. Your immediate and most vile interpretation of my screen name is certainly ironic.
