Cazayoux Win

The Hill:

House Democrats continued to expand their majority Saturday night after Louisiana state Rep. Don Cazayoux emerged victorious in a special election for retired Rep. Richard Baker's (R) district.

The win comes two months after Democrats picked up their first seat of the year. In March, Democrat Bill Foster won the Illinois seat of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R). That seat, like the Louisiana contest, was in solidly Republican areas. President Bush carried the Illinois district with 55 percent and the Louisiana district with 59 percent in 2004.

Just one more nail in the coffin of the party that has taken this country and twisted it for their own monetary gain. Republicans your time has come, you are going down.

"When Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi were introduced into this campaign, Don Cazayoux was leading by a large margin in the polls and since then Republicans substantially closed that gap,” said Ken Spain, an NRCC spokesman. “This election speaks to the potential toxicity of an Obama candidacy and the possible drag he could have down-ballot this fall."

The NRCC, parroting both the national media and Clinton's campaign....

Except, he won :)

It's such an easy choice for me, because Republicans are so clearly pulling for Clinton.

The only chance we have to save this country begins with effectively wiping out the power of the Republican Party. The Republicans, with all their greedy warmongers, fascist neocons, crony no-bid capitalists and religious nut jobs, must be kicked out into the street and humiliated. Then we're going to have to start twisting the arms of the Democrats until they restore the Constitution and start acting in the public interest.

There's a small group of Democrats who belong to the DLC, that have basically the same agenda as the Republicans. They consistently block progressive legislation, and enable the Republicans:
http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/5/27/55951/1586
http://www.nndb.com/group/269/000093987/

Additionally, the DLC has no plans to withdraw the troops and they believe in expanding military presence in the Middle East (Iran). Since Hillary and Bill Clinton are both DLC leaders, nobody who votes for Hillary Clinton should expect her to keep her promise and withdraw troops. The DLC plan is to continue the neocon agenda and control Iran's oil as well as Iraq's. Hence the Kyl/Lieberman bill and Hillary Clinton's support of that bill. They want to control Iraq and Iran's oil supply, not so much because America needs the oil, but for leverage over China and India as their demand for oil increases.

The DLC plan B for Iraq as detailed on their own web site is to win Bush's war:

I can't believe they're using Nancy Pelosi again.

The "San Francisco liberal" bit didn't work in '06, so they spent another million dollars on it in '08.

Conservatives are bankrupt as far as ideas, and they're going to be literally bankrupt if they can't come up with anything better than promoting conservatism by trying to exploit America's assumed loathing of the city of San Francisco.

This idea is 25 years old. It's the same ad they've been running for 25 years. They need another idea.

The repubes hate change. Their party is static. Solidly controlled by wrinkled up, old, white guys. Funny thing is, for some reason, even when they get their a**** handed to them in one election after another, they still try the same old crap. I bet our party could even run Jimmy Carter again and beat the snot out of McCain.

You are absolutely right there is no salvation for the republican party they have become a criminal enterprise, the dems are nearly as bad but we need to deal with the worst thing first and the worst thing to happen to America is the current republican party. These people are selfish greedy warmongers and need to be stopped NOW!

jnratliff---I agree the dems are just as bad but I believe now that more Americans have become educated due to this presidential race I think we can put a greater demand on the democratic party. We must let them know we're no longer blind to the political games and remind them that they work for us. They need to know if we're not satisfied we'll gladly kick them out the door. It's time for young people to position themselves to run for public office. We've got to get rid of the old guard. We need new and fresh ideas.

But, but..ProfessorDuh! What about the fact that the GOP is the "praty of family values?" I mean, with a performance record like this:

http://www.armchairsubversive.org

I mean, the GOP clearly just *loves* America's children, so why would anyone even think of voting for the Democrats?

Bush has veto power, and we don't have a large enough majority in the Senate. Plus there are several Democratic members of the Senate who are members of the DLC and will continue to support the war, Hillary Clinton included.

Good morning all from Louisiana. For the naysayers here, Don Cazayoux was linked to Obama here in an attempt to to have an affect on the election. Don Cazayoux never distanced himself from Obama as stated by some of the post here. We actually got a recorded call from Michelle Obama encouraging voters to vote for Cazayoux. So the Rebubs attempt didn't WORK! I would appreciate if anti-Obama people here would stop the spinning. I'm from Louisiana, and I know the facts.

This is why the Clintons are fighting so dirty. They believe (I do too) that anyone on the Democratic ticket will win. I honestly believe that is true for anyone but the Clintons. Who do you trust with the post constitutional era executive powers defined by John Yoo?

Good point. The problem for Hillary Clinton has always been her high negatives. They have increased during the primary process. They would continue to increase during a general election campaign. Republicans generally despise both Clintons, but feel even more disdain towards HRC.

And your point about executive power and the shredding of the Constitution is salient, considering Hillary Clinton is the only Democratic candidate who has refused to pledge to return constitutional liberties and freedoms, and additionally she failed to turn up to vote on the FISA re-authorization.

Let's not get too carried away. A conservative (pro-life, pro-gun rights) Democrat wins in a traditionally Republican district. He supports free trade agreements, and he's strongly against amnesty for illegal immigrants. Conservative democrats win in Republican states all the time - but that usually doesn't translate into votes in a Presidential contest. Copied verbatim from his website:

IMMIGRATION
I am strongly against amnesty for illegal immigrants. America is a nation of immigrants, but we also are a nation of laws. In Congress, I will fight to secure our borders and work to crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers.
ABORTION
I am pro-life. This is a position that my wife and I share and its rooted in my faith. In the legislature, I supported one of the strongest pro-life laws in the country and in Congress, I will continue my work to protect the unborn.
2nd Amendment Rights
I strongly support the Second Amendment - it is a fundamental part of our Constitution. I own guns and hunt and believe we need to protect the gun ownership rights of law-abiding citizens. I am very proud to have an A rating from the NRA.

You sound like one of those militia folks from the 90s when they were all afraid of the Clintons coming in black helicopters. Funny, how when the real fascists took over, the same gun toting nut cases turned around and applauded the Bushies for their civil rights abuses.

I'm about as liberal as they come and I agree with his positions on imigration, abortion and the 2nd Amendment. I

I completely disagree with the way Republicans want Americans to hate Mexicans but keep hiring them to maximize their profit.

I'm interested in actually reducing the number of abortions to zero (or as close as possible) through sex ed and fair economic policies, not so I can call people baby killers and throw doctors in jail. By the way, the number has gone up under Bush (it's mostly a problem of economics).

Lastly, no one - I repeat no one- is taking anyone's guns away, not even mine.

Just another indication that this is a Democratic year. All this hand wringing and bloviating and politicking over who is or is not electable from the Democratic side is just a foolish waste of energy. The only way that a Democrat will not be in office come January 2009 is because they have been found to be secretly funding the polygamous goings-on in Texas with teenage girls or pictures will have been produced showing them in bed with animals.

The electorate is pissed off. Finally. They want the Democrats to bail us out of this mess were in. Let's just not get cocky and assume that it'll be easy. It won't be, but at least we've got the wind to our back for the first time in a long time and the sun is rising over a new age in America. Out of the ashes of the failed Republican policies, will rise our Democratic Phoenix.

Rush Limpbag started operation chaos after the Louisiana Primary. Repubs here never switched as others states,(Ohio, Texas, etc). Cazayoux's win had nothing to do with the so called Rush factor.

Does this have anything to do with the fact Rush Limbaugh talked his viewers into swapping parties to vote, and then voters later found out they could not switch back to vote Republican? Or was that another district?
