Cazayoux Win

The Hill:

House Democrats continued to expand their majority Saturday night after Louisiana state Rep. Don Cazayoux emerged victorious in a special election for retired Rep. Richard Baker's (R) district.

The win comes two months after Democrats picked up their first seat of the year. In March, Democrat Bill Foster won the Illinois seat of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R). That seat, like the Louisiana contest, was in solidly Republican areas. President Bush carried the Illinois district with 55 percent and the Louisiana district with 59 percent in 2004.

Who are you telling? I live in 2nd, because of blatant gerrymandering - they've got to keep the working class and blacks out of 1st, but I worked and hoped and prayed for Gilda Reed in 1st anyway. We got hammered. 75-22. I keep trying to look on the bright side, and be grateful for Don's win in 6th, but it's painful.

I've just gotta say "Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!"

I voted for Don Cajzshouuu. In this solidly Republican district in this Red State, this is the first time I've ever voted where I felt like I was "sticking it" to the Republicans when I pressed the voting button.

Now, Don Cazayoux wasn't actually my first choice. I voted for another Dem in the primary. But that's okay, as long as I get to vote against Woody Jenkins again (first time was when he ran for Senate last millenium). Woody Jenkins is now an official loser. He should get out of politics and stick to Amway. (This guy also had his own TV station here in Baton Rouge, which was basically Fox News Channel before Fox News Channel.)

The Republicans were really stupid with their attack ads. The most prominent ad was one linking Don Cazayoux with Obama, saying he had the same health care plan as Obama. Oh yeah? Geeze, that might as well have been an ad FOR Cazayoux as well as Obama. At least these guys actually HAVE a plan, and by now everyone's fed up with no plan at all (which is the Republican plan).

no democrat wins without the african-american vote.

hillary is finished in politics because she played the race card to scare white voters.now she would get at most 10% nationally of the .black vote.

"Yes we can" is the Obama theme. I get what you're saying though.

so let me get this straight ,

The GOP was running ads against Obama in a state that has about 1/3 of its electorate is African American. I'm guessing the only reason why the spread was small is because Cazayoux didn't pursue the Obama's campaign's contact list that got Obama a 57% to 36% victory.

Obama should highlight people who won despite attacks which linked the candidate with Obama, especially when they won in solid republican districts. How will Hillary spin out of this to say Obama can't win big states, swing states when record proved the opposite? It's amazing that her talented acting skills make people, even analysts on TV, believe in her lies. Character of the candidate is the most important criterion to choose a president, in fact in any position. Combined with this win, Obama got Forest Gum Hanks' endorsement. Learn a lesson from Hillary, Obama: boast about your positives and ignore your negatives. Smile and enjoy the win. It shows most people still have brain to think for themselves.

Another Democratic seat opposed to defunding the war, probably in favor of the Reward Predator Credit Card and Mortgage Company Act (Bankruptcy Act) type Bills, further Trample on the Constitution Acts similar to Tramples on the Constitution Acts 1,2 and 3 (Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act and Protect America Act) and other despicably backwards things that give the Democrats the excuse to screw Labor and the peace movement.

These aren't even Reagan Democrats. These are the old Dixiecrat Democrats who can no longer tolerate the anti-poor people bias of the Republicans and want to make right wing crap even more popular in the Democrat Party. They're more harm than good. The first time a really important issue comes up, you'll see them refusing to back the progressive position and the Democratic leadership whining that they don't have enough votes.

Just remember that those of you who contribute to the DCCC and DSCC have your money wasted on these useless candidates.

It's that same "progressive" position that lost you the House in 1994 and set up GW Bush as our king. That plan worked so well, you want to try it again? You guys can't keep taxing the hell outof working people and giving it away for votes, while disarming the public of means for self-defense, and expect people not to get pissed.

It was the false propaganda & blatent anti-Govt. pandering of the Right-Wing Media machine that cost Democrats the 94 election. A lot of voters fell for the "contract with America" BS - which the GOP abandoned as soon as they attained power. Most Progressives are NOT in favor of confiscation of guns! If that ever happens here it will be by a Right-Wing Govt. afraid of citizen opposition. It will not be due to Progressive attempts to keep them out of the hands of criminals & the insane!

Relax, nobody's gonna take away your guns. Taxes are necessary. That little stimulus check and tax holiday is called pandering or buying votes. Most children and idiots know what's going on. Why can't you. The Bush brand is the only administration in the history of the WORLD to give tax breaks to the rich while prosecuting a war. Meanwhile the infrastructure crumbles.

The way to protect yourself is to not allow idiots to tamper with your life through spying and destruction of the constitution.

Nonamnesiac.....there have always been Dixiecrats - even in the FDR coalition that lasted until HHH. I always preach against their new cousins, the DLC....and I know that they have become the new majority in the Congress- which is why liberals have difficulty in passing legislation favourable to our philosophy.

HOWEVER, that being said, I believe that the majority of Northern and Midwestern Democrats can caucus to re-establish leadership within the Party. Primary victories might change the demographic in certain contests. However, FDR's Dixiecrats voted for many of the New Deal proposals because as politicians, they recognised that Roosevelt had the nation behind him....like Obama will have.

I know. Those Dixiecrats opposed all Civil Rights legislation as well as opposing numerous pro-Labor bills that never became law. We don't need those racist, fascist votes. Because many are poor, they don't fit in with the Republican Party program they have supported since the civil rights movement, when they became the lemmings that marched over the cliff in Nixon's Southern strategy. Let them stay where they are until they give up their racist, pro-war, anti-labor agenda and vote with what their economic interests have always been -- with progressive Democrats. Until then, let them oppose the Equal Rights Amendment and Gay Marriage as members of the Republican Party that picks their pockets. We don't need them to torpedo more progressive legislation.

More Rep. Don Cazayoux

2nd Amendment Rights
I strongly support the Second Amendment - it is a fundamental part of our Constitution. I own guns, hunt, and believe we need to protect the gun ownership rights of law-abiding citizens. I am very proud to have an A rating from the NRA.

IRAQ WAR AND VETERANS
I believe we need to change directions in Iraq and bring our troops home responsibly and with honour while continuing to focus on national security and winning the war on terror.

TAX CUTS AND BALANCING THE BUDGET
I believe in a balanced budget and I will support the pay-go polices that the Congress enacted last year. I hope to join a coalition knows as the Blue Dog Democrats, a coalition of fiscal conservative Democrats committed to paying down the debt and passing sound economic policies

The site does not say anything thing on gay marriage buy my guess he is against it.
This is not a win for the Dems and a defeat for the Gop It is a defeat for the far right and left in both parties and a win for us in the middle the Reagan Dems. WE hold the power you on the far left and right hold the blogs, Tell the truth progressives is this your guy or us “bitter” white folks

You bitter white folks better come on over to the middle of the Democratic party, because going to the right any further is not an option for Obama. Look what happened to Bill in the last half of the 90's and look what's happening to Hillary now. Besides, when Obama runs against McCain, McCain will have to move a little ways from the fascist wing in an attempt to get more than the 30% he has in the bag.

A few points to put this into proper light. This is a win for middle of the road, Reagan Democrats like me. It is NOT a win for the liberal / progressive wing Obama wing of the party. These are the newly elected Congressman views from his own web page.

IMMIGRATION. I am strongly against amnesty for illegal immigrants. America is a nation of immigrants, but we also are a nation of laws. In Congress, I will fight to secure our borders and work to crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers.

IRAQ WAR AND VETERANS
! believe we need to change directions in Iraq and bring our troops home responsibly and with honor while continuing to focus on national security and winning the war on terror.

ABORTION.I am pro-life. This is a position that my wife and I share and its rooted in my faith. In the legislature, I supported one of the strongest pro-life laws in the country and in Congress; I will continue my work to protect the unborn

Middle of the road is what we really need. However, lately the Republicans have been way off the reservation. We need to counter balance things with a lot of Democrats. I was what you'd call an Edwards Republican and almost changed to Democrat. However, when I saw the Dems throw away their last best hope because he's just another pesky white male, I changed to Independent. That way I get to love 'em all or hate 'em all. Right now, as far as Pres candidates go, I hate all of them. And that way I don't feel bound to vote out of party loyalty.

Bob Casey endorse Obama, continues to campaign for him and is pro-life.
what Obama has said about the division between pro-choice and pro-life Americans is really great. He focuses on how while there are extremes on both sides, vast majority of Americans are not that far apart. Most pro-choice Americans believe that abortion should be safe, legal and above all rare and do not believe that abortion should be taken lightly or used in lieu of birth control. Most pro- life Americans do not believe that a woman should continue a pregnancy if her health or life would be at risk and are uncomfortable with rape or incest victims being forced to carry babies to term. Obama has spoken about the need to limit the number of abortions through offering good health care and education for women and support to families.
Statistics are annoying but it is interesting to know that the Netherlands has the lowest abortion rate in the world, far lower even than countries where abortion is illegal. Women there begin having sex later than they do here and have safer sex when they do. They achieve this through their strong public health system and sex education. Women feel supported because their government offers subsidies for child care and other support to families.
Maybe we can look at them as a model as a way to limit the number of abortions and to find common ground?
