Cazayoux Win

The Hill:

House Democrats continued to expand their majority Saturday night after Louisiana state Rep. Don Cazayoux emerged victorious in a special election for retired Rep. Richard Baker's (R) district.

The win comes two months after Democrats picked up their first seat of the year. In March, Democrat Bill Foster won the Illinois seat of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R). That seat, like the Louisiana contest, was in solidly Republican areas. President Bush carried the Illinois district with 55 percent and the Louisiana district with 59 percent in 2004.

Cazayoux distanced himself publically from Obama, so presenting this as a positive sign for Obama seems like wishful thinking to me...

So half of you supports Freedom Watch and its RNC connections? I guess 'fair and ballanced' do not play in your world. President Obama will force 'not for profit' policical hatchet organizations, including churchs that endorse candidates, into paying taxes.

I'm from Louisiana, I know the facts. Cazayoux never distanced himself from Obama as stated in your post. In fact, Louisiana voters got calls from Michell Obama asking them to support Cazayoux. The attempts by the Rebubs here to link Cazayoux to Obama didn't work. Please stop stating lies that are not FACTS. It should be noted that the district Cazayoux won was a heavy Repub district.

I hope that the other guy in MS that threw Obama under the bus because of a similar negative ad loses. I will bet African Americans will not come out to support him. Black votes are very valueable after all.

Thank God, instead, that people are seeing the light and repudiating Republican legislators. Remember, the real dirty work is done in the Senate and Congress, so regardless of who you support for president, the important thing is to vote straight party Dem in any and all other elections.

It doesn't matter how big a majority the Democrats have in the house, if they don't move to impeach.

Let me get this straight - This is a solid GOP district in LOUISIANA and they spent a million bucks running ads linking Obama with the candidate, and the Democrat wins. Well it's official, the race baiting fear tactics just won't do...not this time.

Good news for Obama! Now let us wait and see if the mainstream media will report this victory as much as they were reporting the speculation about what implication Cazayoux's loss would have on Obama! But then I do not expect MSM to owe up to anything......

They'll probably report on how the Republican was outspent 2 to 1, and that was the reason why Cazayoux won the election. Of course, his opponent had help from some of America's traitors to freedom and justice:

'A variety of other conservative-aligned groups including Freedom's Watch and the Club For Growth ran ads attacking Cazayoux as liberal on taxes and seeking to link him to Sens. Barack Obama (Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.).'
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/05/democrats_win_la_special_elect.html?hpid=sec-politics

The outcome was way overdue because another Republican Christo-Fascist freak has bitten the dust:

'For two decades, Mr. Jenkins has been one of the state’s best-known — and most polarizing — political figures. He led an effort in the Louisiana Legislature 18 years ago to enact the nation’s toughest anti-abortion laws, which tore the state’s politics apart. He was the Legislature’s most outspoken across-the-board opponent of taxes and government spending.'

This is only the beginning. We've seen similar results in other so called "safe" districts in recent elections. I love it! The Republicans will be getting the message loud and clear in November. It's unavoidable. People are finally realizing that the Republican party's allegiance is fundamentally to a very small subset of the American population -- the ultra rich and powerful.

After years of sustained abuse and neglect that average Americans were forced to endure while Republicans controlled the reins of power -- when the ultra-rich got richer and just about everyone else got poorer -- the American people are finally -- finally -- beginning to see who their real friends and allies are -- and it ain't George Bush and his party of enablers.

If the Democratic party remains true to its purpose and doesn't allow corruptive influences to impede its vision and efforts, they stand to gain tremendously in the Fall and beyond. If the Republicans have proved anything over these past 12 or so years, it is that they are too greedy and selfish to govern in a fair, balanced, and equitable manner. They deserve to lose -- BIGTIME.

Change is coming! Hallelujah!!!

The republofascists relentless assault on everything that matters to the majority of Americans best interests over 8 long years is finally taking its toll on even the most non political people. Most folks have finally realized that the republofascists are destroying our country.

"Y'all" may not have noticed, but ALABAMA Democrats (yes, we do exist) voted 56% for Obama while Hillary only got 41.6%. Plus Dems cast more votes for our top two candidates than the Repukes did for Huckabee and McCain combined, so don't count the South out just yet!

I've learned not to get excited the instant a Democrat takes over in a previously-Republican district.

Party affiliation means jack squat. It's what Don Cazayoux does (or doesn't do) in Congress that matters. The halls of Congress are littered with spineless faux-Democrats who've enabled all of the Neocon nonsense we've seen for the past eight years.

When Congress last handed George W. Bush a blank check for the Iraq Debacle, fewer than 2/3 of Congressional Democrats opposed it in either house. In other words, Democrats can't muster a "veto-proof majority" in their own freakin' party!

Please, Representative Cazayoux, have the courage to do what's right for America--not merely what's convenient for your political party andl career.

I only half agree with you, but I'm trying to be more optimistic. While one or two Democrats taking over a formerly Republican district by themselves might not seem like cause for celebration, a couple of dozen of these types of victories for them Democrats since 2004 has me looking ahead to this November. This country is finally ready to wake up again and vote against the Republicans, since they are finally seeing the truth of Neo-con rule. I fully expect at least half of the seats that are up for grabs left vacant by retiring Republicans will go to Democrats, some in districts that have been "safely" red for decades. That, coupled with the fact that this country's voters want to elect a Democrat for president by about a 60-40 margin, gives me hope that the Democrats will have a veto proof majority in at least one house of congress, and with that power, will FINALLY get this coutry back on track. I think Obama is the kind of man to lead this country and guide it back to the kind of greatness we enjoyed before Bush.

Yup.

We were fooled here in MN by Amy Klobucher who ended up voted with a group of mostly newly elected Dems in 2006 who proved pivotal in passing more than one bill of shrubya's.

Let's hope Cazayoux is a Dem of principle who has a spine.

You are so right. We have to replace the democratic do-nothings with some democrats who will stand up and do what it right - no matter what! We need to have our constitution protected, not our congressional jobs. If they aren't any good, olet's give the next one a try. The dems have the right platforms - now we need the right candidates. That's why we need Obama, and we don't need another minute of Hillary.
