Update: Barack Obama was asked about James Carville's cojones comment (see below) on ABC's Nightline. His response:

"Well, you know, James Carville is well-known for spouting off his mouth without always knowing what he's talking about. And I intend to stay focused on fighting for the American people because what they don't need is 20 more years of performance art on television. And that's what James Carville and a lot of those folks are expert at ... a lot of talk and not getting things done for the American people."

Original Post: The ragin' Cajun, James Carville, offers some...interesting...analysis to Newsweek:

Reminded that Obama continues to narrow the lead that Hillary once enjoyed among superdelegates, Carville quips, "A superdelegate commitment and four bucks will get you a cup of coffee at the Ritz-Carlton." Perhaps he had in mind Joe Andrew, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, appointed by Bill Clinton, who endorsed Hillary on the day she announced for president, and Thursday switched his endorsement to Obama, saying he thinks it's time for the party to come together. Carville takes the view that the longer Obama is out there under scrutiny, the more the voters see his vulnerabilities. "Everything that's happened to him is not because of her. She hasn't laid much of a glove on him other than just being there," Carville says.

Obama didn't have much choice in deciding to take on Wright. It was a fight he did all he could to avoid, acting only when it threatened to destroy his candidacy. "The Republicans will eat him alive" is what the Clinton campaign is telling the superdelegates. Hillary is the tougher of the two, the candidate you want on your side in a knife fight, a gender reversal that prompts Carville to indulge in some ribald humor: "If she gave him one of her cojones, they'd both have two."

So...if Carville has such lovely things to say about Obama, the question I have is, forget who's your pastor, how could someone stay married to Mary Matalin, given that she's been the mouthpiece for Dick Cheney lo these past 7 years. I mean Jeremiah Wright is kind of penny ante by comparison.

And Rev. Hagee makes Jeremiah Wright look downright mainstream by comparison. Why is it Keith Olbermann is the only journalist with the cajones to go after that story?

Evolution is painful and the Democratic Party is in a 'skin-shedding', 'We Are Not Them' phase of 'political' evolution!
The Carvell's, Clinton's and Emmanuel's of the party who thought the party needed to move to the 'right' GOT IT WRONG!
As screwed up as the repub's have become because of the 'neo-cons' these Dems have tried to mimic that success in their own party and it has blown up in their face because GIVEN ALL THE EVIDENCE the American People are smarter than EITHER bunch gave them credit for.
The arrogance that spews from the mouth of this man's wife is evidence that both ae poitical'elitist' pigs! And represent the status-quo big money politics.

If Hillarious gave Carville half her brain, they would each have half a brain between them.

I think you just reinforced exactly the point Obama was making. If you want to pick your President based on something like "ability to make witty comments" then vote for Carville (Clinton need not apply). If you think there are serious issues that need to be addressed, then focus on those. What Carville said was funny, but that doesn't make it relevant to the voting process.

What does it take for a black man, with a name that can easily allow people to assume he's a muslim, to decide to make a legitimate run for president, against one of the most powerful families and organizations in politics, basing his strategy on small internet donors out funding, old school politicos, and young and first time voters flooding the polls to secure his victory.

Now that it's a done deal, you can say it took vision. But when Obama first hatched this plan, it took one monumental pair of cojones.

And what does it take to stand your ground, to stick to your principals, to keep it positive even as you are being bombarded with every form of negative campaigning and misinformation?

I'd mark that one down to cojones too.

Bill Richardson insults both Clinton's regularly, asserting they believe they are entitled to the Presidency like some royal monarchs.

Hillary Clinton is obviously fighting for the nomination; the last thing she is doing is taking anything for granted.

if anyone feels entitled at this point it is Barack Obama. He looks cool and arrogant. His wife is planning the move-in to the WH already. Talk about presumption.

If he has really won, why hasn't he won? Where is this flood of superdelegates? If he is the overwhemling candidate why hasn't he won on pledged delegate count like John McCain? Why will be lose in KY and WV and PR by huge margins? Why can he only win a big state where 30% of the voters are black?

You need a heavy dose of reality. HRC LOST because of arrogance. Carville is just whining because he knows he is persona non grata.

The country is better off without any of these assholes, Bill and Hillary included.

Suck it up Clintonistas--your nightmare is almost over.

I totally agree....Obama is arrogant....lets hope his wife doesn't move into the WH!!

Also, please see this post which gives a very clear picture of the Obama campaign..seems to have gotten lost on this site.....

Obama was the HEAVY underdog when this all started and he has OUT-organized. OUT-managed and OUT-financed the Clintons at every turn>
The ONLY group that was ARROGANT enough to think THEY HAD THIS IN THE BAG was the Clintons, to claim otherwise, is absurd!
She THOUGHT it was all going to be over by Super Tuesday and her lack of PLANNING has her campaign bankrupt to the tune of $25 million dollars and resigning staffers! That is the type of leadership we DON'T need!

What I find interesting is that when Clinton won PA, she had turned the tide. When she lost NC and scraped by in IN (with the quite clearly demonstrated assistance of Republican voters), she fights on. KY, WV and PR are now proof positive that she is the best candidate. What about Oregon? What about the 12 states straight that Obama won? What about the fact that he has won more delegates, gotten more votes, and won more states than Clinton? Exactly which criteria do you want to pick and choose to highlight? She lost. The press knows it. The public knows. She knows it. You just look silly tilting at windmills at this point.

Carville is now like a puppet, his wife with the cajones does the talking. (that's why he's
sounding so much like the Republicans). After Obama
gets in office, maybe he can hire him to do the janitor work, where he can talk to himself
all he wants and nobody will have to hear him. He use to have something to say, but now
he just has egg on his face.

"... And I intend to stay focused on fighting for the American people because what they don't need is 20 more years of performance art on television."

SG: I really like the cutting insight in this 'politics as performing arts', assessment. And even though I find Carville's choice in women somewhat unfathomable, I still find myself wanting to hear from him.

I find his commitment to be a raw, in the body, a deep down felt 'thing'. Carville is undomesticated, unpasturized, emotion. For me there is something invigoratingly human about him, paricularly when contrasted to the 'simulacrum' of overly polled MSM talking points.

In much of what passes for political 'discoarse', who speaks doesn't matter. Carville is different because he believes what he says, and in that way he matters, for me.

Carville doesn't care about policy he cares about the sport of politics. He want his candidate to win at all costs. It doesn't matter what the other candidate believes or doesn't believe. That crap is just not interesting.

No Carville is just loyal to his king maker.Don't bite the hand that made you a millionaire.
I am confident the Roman Empire would have appreciated his dedication.
Americans can't afford such self serving cheap luxuries.

Isn't true that Carvile went to South America and helped right wing politicians to get re-elected?

i agree he does not care who runs as long as they pay, he will put his "expertise" to work and help them win!!!!

That is a true "professional"

Question? who cares about Carville!
He is done and over-
Where was his "cojones" when in 2000,
he made that famous call to his wife, that lost the race for Gore.
With friends like that who needs enemies.
Bill Richardson's resume dwarfs, that of Carville's in the Democratic party,
yet this "judas" decides to continually divide the party.
He has become the ultimate "nobody" in politics-
His legacy is done and personally I'm tired of seeing him on TV.

Inbreeding really sucks.

That's how Carville has intimate knowledge of people (men and women) with three testicles.

Don't mistake ambitiousness for recklessness.
Without DNA in your hand - you have as much right to claim JFK, RFK infidelities’ as you do Oswald’s' marksmanship.
Forget about Ted Kennedy and the girl who (he may have) drowned - yes, forget it - just as readily as Americans are willing to dismiss Cheney and Halliburton. (stop hand selecting your idealist rants)
Hillary and Bill's crowning glory was Bosnia and Somalia - where real innocents were dying - even Obama supporters must give up kudos there? (man, that's what she shoulda went with)

It's not Hillary's 'alleged' marriage concordance the Obama supports are referring - it's her willingness to abandon civility where Obama does not.
