Anti-Immigration Protester Needs A Spell-Check

The San Francisco Chronicle reprints this photo taken at an anti-immigration rally in Texas. The paper quips: "Excellent point: In Houston, a Texan protesting amnesty for illegal immigrants argues that anyone who can't master English doesn't deserve to live in America."

Uh... how do you spell official in American? I understand internet or sms as d nw lngo, but American sounds so parochial and self-absorbed. The closest thing to an American language is blck English -- which, some would argue (and they do) where the most innovation is happening in the English language.

Actually, most Texans down on the border do NOT want the wall.

They travel back and forth to Mexico the way DCers go to Maryland or Norhtern Virginia. The wall would cut through the travel corridors as well as personal property (and even a golf course in Brownsville). It will also decimate the endangered ocelot's territory and drive a wedge into other species' habitats. The Rio Grande valley also has a very large birding economy, which will of course, also be ruined by the wall.

The federal government has already filed suit against many property owners for refusing to assist their surveyors. I say "Go People of the Valley!" but I hear that the government will evoke (invoke?) eminent domain soon.

This woman, I assume, was in Houston, and she most likely has an illegal housekeeper and gardener.

The Texas economy would shut down without illegal or legal immigrants. Period.

Actually the same jobs that many of them have would go to the teenage community. Trust me I was one of the many Texas teenagers who had an extremely hard time getting a part-time job because I wasn't Central American. Do you know how pissed off I was? The way Texas discriminates against their own fellow Americans for cheaper worker is outrageous! It was just on the news a few months ago that over half of the employees for the city of Dallas were illegal and many people complained that they have tried to get jobs working for the city of Dallas but would be hire because they weren't Central American. This is why they protest. No one understand how much it sucks to walk into a store and need help looking for something only to find that the sales associate doesn't speak English. Or to get into an accident and find out that the person that hits you doesn't have a license, doesn't have insurance, or can't give you any kind of personal due to the lack of speaking English; or worst they hit you and keeping for the fear of deportation! Trust me I see this all of the time. I have fallen victim of these problems and so has some of my friends... Even some of my friends that are Legal citizens have ran into this problem, so think before you criticize a persons motives for want a better immigration reform!
