Obama On O'Reilly: "Looking Forward" To Going On The Factor

Is Obama headed to the O'Reilly Factor? It sure sounds like it, according to his interview this morning on Fox and Friends, where he claimed: "We're gonna see if we can fit it in." Of course, the last time he tried to make time for a Fox interview with Chris Wallace, it took two years for him to get there. Here's hoping for another 2-year wait.

Oh please. I loathe O'Reilly, would love nothing more than to read the headline "Bill O'Reilly Dead in Bizarre Gardening Accident" but that said, I am so, so tired of the diving and the demonizing, even in my own head. I would LOVE to see Obama go on O'Reilly and not pander, but debate the guy, get to him, leave him speechless or gawping, or scratching his head at least. I'm not naive enough to think that Obama could convert O'Reilly, but I want a president who an persuade rather than bully or ignore. It's like Bono working to get right-wingers to sign on to his African initiatives--he didn't say "oh, you're a jerk if you don't do this" or "I'm not going to talk to Jesse Helms"--he sat down and talked to them and showed them that helping AIDS victims in Africa was actually in line with their values--he appealed to their better nature. This is a talent that I believe Obama has, and I'll be fascinated to watch any encounter he has with Reilly and co.
