Clinton Camp Tries To Redefine Delegate Math

The Washington Times noticed that Sen. Clinton's website has changed the 'magic number' of delegates -- the number needed to secure the nomination.

Top Clinton aides said the nominee must win based on a tally that includes delegates from Florida and Michigan, which held January primaries that were disqualified by party rules. The campaign's "Delegate Hub" Web site identifies 2,208 as the total delegates needed to be nominated, or 183 more than the threshold of 2,025 set by the Democratic National Committee's rules.

Later today, the candidate herself clarified the new math:

Asked at the Indianapolis Speedway this morning, Hillary confirms that she views the threshold for delegate victory as the count that includes Michigan and Florida.

"I think it's 2,209," she said.

The Clintons have a "new metric" every day. They claim its about the delegates, then they get trounced, and say its about the popular vote. They say its about the number of states won, but then Obama wins more states and they say they have won more BIG STATES.

Funny stuff.

Pretty soon, the Clintons will say they've won the states with the most chili dogs, states with the most Doritos, states with the most Miley Cyrus fans, etc.

Enough already. Hillary is behind in delegates, states won, fundraising dollars, and donors.

When Obama wins in NC tonight regardless of Indiana, he will still come out with mor delegates than HRC. Isn't it obvious she is tired, probably dogging too many bullets, sleep depraved, ETC. The rules state that even the committed delegates may elect to vote for anyone else...what about that?

The rules state that the RULES COMMITTEE, not the shrill voices on Huffpost, get to decide whether or not the Florida and Michigan delegations are seated...what about that?

Hillary cannot break the rules. The RULES COMMITTEE decides! She just campaigns. Anything that happens, even if she wins this primary...will happen within the rules of the Democratic party. Otherwise it won't happen, because the rules don't allow it.

My seven year old gets upset about a lot of things. That doesn't mean that sometimes I, as an adult, don't learn new things and make the hard decision...or just reconsider and change my mind about something. Just because my 7 year old doesn't like it doesn't mean it isn't the best decision.

And just because he has a temper tantrum and threatens to take his ball and stay home from the voting booth doesn't mean that I am wrong.

Too bad you don't understand the rules. The rules say

The delegate count INCLUDES the delegates from MI and FL. However, since FL missed the deadline, each delegate there only counts as a 1/2 vote. MI rules aren't as clear. In this case, Clinton could pull ahead.

Uh, no. The DNC stripped the delegates from MI and FL (although why they couldn't have just said that the state parties could still send delegates -- just make 'em uncommitted is beyond me) because they scheduled their primaries too early.

The GOP, on the other hand, took away half the allotted MI and FL delegates. Not sure if that means each delegate gets 1/2 a vote or if the number of people going to Denver were cut in half.
