Fox Anchor Jodi Applegate Set To Announce Shocking Family Secret ON AIR

The New York Post's Michael Starr reports that Jodi Applegate, former MSNBC and NBC personality and veteran of local morning broadcasts across the country (including New York's "Good Day New York," where she currently anchors) is set to announce a shocking family secret on the air tomorrow:

Applegate's mother, Margaret, died in 1981 of breast cancer when Jodi was only 17. When she passed away, a family secret was supposed to have gone with her.

"In late 1963, she found herself pregnant and not married, which was a real scandal in those days, especially if you were Irish-Catholic," says Applegate, especially in Wheeling, W. Va.

"She hid her pregnancy, disappeared for several months and returned with a baby she said she'd gotten at an orphanage.

"She said, 'I'm going to keep her and adopt her' . . . It was a story that allowed her to live in that town and go to that church."

Applegate grew up believing she was adopted. Eventually, her mother married, but never had any more children.

I wonder if someone was blackmailing her for money or her career or some desprite relative sold this story for cash to the scandal media. She should have been able to continue to keep this very private matter private.
Still, there is nothing to be ashamed of here. Her mother did what a lot of women did at the time - went out of town to a 'Christian' home and had the baby, although this had the unusual twist as to her keeping it rather that the usual practice of putting the child in an orphanage or for adoption. Legal abortion was not an option then and morally unacceptable to her mother.

Ms. Applegate's mother did exactly the same thing as Loretta Young, who adopted her beautiful and intelligent "love child" by Clark Gable, Judy Lewis. And why the headline "shocking" secret in regard to Jodi Apple]gate? The word "shocking" was not in the original Post story, just "secret," which it certainly was. What happened is no longer shocking in this day and age.
