Fox Anchor Jodi Applegate Set To Announce Shocking Family Secret ON AIR

The New York Post's Michael Starr reports that Jodi Applegate, former MSNBC and NBC personality and veteran of local morning broadcasts across the country (including New York's "Good Day New York," where she currently anchors) is set to announce a shocking family secret on the air tomorrow:

Applegate's mother, Margaret, died in 1981 of breast cancer when Jodi was only 17. When she passed away, a family secret was supposed to have gone with her.

"In late 1963, she found herself pregnant and not married, which was a real scandal in those days, especially if you were Irish-Catholic," says Applegate, especially in Wheeling, W. Va.

"She hid her pregnancy, disappeared for several months and returned with a baby she said she'd gotten at an orphanage.

"She said, 'I'm going to keep her and adopt her' . . . It was a story that allowed her to live in that town and go to that church."

Applegate grew up believing she was adopted. Eventually, her mother married, but never had any more children.

Umm, yeah. Who cares? Maybe if her mom "passed for white" or was a Nazi or some other shite this could be mildly interesting, but this is a non-issue.

It matters to the "values" right-wing sanctimonious republicans who love Fox News because they find this stuff titillating and because they're judgmental and isolated to boot. So they're all scandalized by this mundane story. "Imagine! This purdy gal is a bastard! Or. No! She's an adopted girl of a promiscuous teenager who pretended to be virginal for the sake of the daughter's future... how noble! ' And now she's telling us all so that she has some sort of compelling back-story outside of 'I was raised in an upper middle class family in the suburbs'. I wish HuffPo would keep it's Fox News reporting to a minimum and focused on their hyprocrisy instead of dull stuff we don't care about.

Given the family medical history, Ms. Applegate might consider honoring her mother by encouraging women to get mammograms.

Especially those whose Catholic parents tell them they were adopted.

Because in the early 60's, orphanages just "gave" babies to single moms just out of high school.

To me the point is that it is sad that a mother would have to deny her child in order to avoid a lifetime of public shame and humiliation for both herself and her child. I feel empathy for all mothers who have felt forced to deny a child, through whatever means.
