Penn Mika Joe

This morning on MSNBC, magician Penn Jillette repeated an admittedly "cheesy" joke that performed really well on a recent tour — that Barack Obama did well in February because it was Black History Month and Hillary Clinton did well in March because it was "White Bitch Month."

Jillette used the joke to underscore his point that there is a huge reserve of hatred out there for Hillary, but anchors Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were not amused and did not appreciate his comment. Watch as he repeats the joke and then is condemned by Mika and Joe, with Mika saying, "I didn't think it was funny, and I gotta tell you, with all the work Hillary Clinton is doing, I'm insulted, actually."

From MSNBC, 5/6

First: Penn was making the point that the joke WASN'T good, that the sentiment was purposefully mean-spirited to get a negative reaction, and yet it got a great positive response. That was his point. That's a pretty interesting point on the dynamics of the race at present.

For Scarborough and Brzezinski to feign this stupid, patronizing offense at the dumb joke, all the while COMPLETELY MISSING the point of what Penn was saying, well that's just par for the course.

Sycophants like those two are FORCED to pretend they find offense in jokes like that. I'll guarantee you if you told Joe that joke after work at a bar, the he'd have cracked up, and Mika would have just groaned and rolled her eyes. I don't buy their reaction one bit.

I can always depend on the patently libertarian Penn to say something to stir up trouble!

Nice to see SOMEONE got what he was trying to say!
I think their reaction was completely contrived.

The standards for talking on national television have never been the same as talking to a buddy at the bar. Wehter they where personally offended or not is irrelevant,t hey recognized Penn had cross the line. The only ones that do nt see that are the excuse makers for the right who feel there is no line. Offensive speech, race baiting, phoney confussion, deliberate misquoteing, and flat out lieing are always excused by the right.

Penn is completley irrelevant and would go untoticed completely if he was not stiring up trouble.

To all the Clinton and MCain, suppporters who have stood by and even cheered while all manner of racial slurs, sterotypes and inuendo's have been used to garner votes, it is the heigth and breadth of laughable hypocricy to get so upset about this comment....

having said that, I am willing to concede, what many of you afor mentioned thus have not....

words can and do hurt!!!!!

Race baiting is when you don't offer any examples.

I think HRC is a lying, delusional, shameless, soulless hypocrite and crook, but that so-called joke is crass, dim-witted and worst of all, just not funny. It plays into Clinton's claims of being the victim of some chauvinistic conspiracy against her (and by extension, all middle-aged white women). When in fact, those people like me who would classify her as reptilian don't give a damn about her gender. It's her lack of any fixed values that she wouldn't sell for the right price that we're concerned with.

Meanwhile, would Penn Jillette appreciate a similar sneer about May being Fat Ugly Comics Month? I think not.

"It plays into Clinton's claims of being the victim of some chauvinistic conspiracy against her...."

Can you still claim chauvinistic conspiracy when you have cajones and testicular fortitude? Just wondering. Hard to have it both ways.

Oh right, Hillary is even responsible when d***chbags on MSNBC say insults and slurs.

She wants it to happen. She invites it.

GO to hell, dopey.

I have to admit I can be a bitch at times. Sometimes it's necessary to get my message across.

Clearly Mika and Joe were very frightened they were going to be suspended!!! They know what happens at to people at MSNBC that say things about the Clintons that the Clinton's don't like.

People, lighten up. It's a joke. They are JOKES, get it?

Here is another example:
From Chris Rock re: what people will say who didn't vote for Obama (after he wins):
"Man, I can't call him now. I voted for that white lady!"

Is this racist because Rock mentioned her race?

Jokes are meant to point out the stuff that people are not talking about but have some kernel of truth that the listener will recognize. Some people think Hillary is a bitch. That's why it's funny. Even if you disagree, it doesn't make it any less a joke. If we had to be politically correct when we made jokes we'd be Germany.

The idea that Joe S. would be embarrased when someone repeated something offensive on his show is laughable. He drags out every innuendo imaginable and cloaks it in the safe overwrap of "journalism."

Get with the program! It's a riff on a famous internet pic, where some doofus is holding up a sign that says, "Get a Brain, Morans!" It's an internet-meme like getting Rick Rolled. Google image search "morans", it'll come up. So from now on, whenever somebody typed "morans", you'll be in on the joke!

Penn knew he would get in trouble for saying that.

Yet he did it anyway.

You have to conclude that he just wanted to be the next person to put HRC and that word together in the same sentence.

Still, to tie his motivations to any part of the Obama campaign, is ridiculous. While the Clinton campaign has been digging through Obama's background, seeking items to sling before the media, Obama has restrained from rummaging through her closet. You know the Republicans will not do so.

- Ayers? Republicans will drag out pardon-gate and the members of the Weather Underground that Bill pardoned.

- Wright? How many seconds will it take for the photo's of Wright at the White House - at the invitation of the Clinton's for Monica-gate - to appear in 30-second ads?

- Bitter? The only candidate who has raked in more money than McCain and his wife - the beer distributor - are the Clinton's. Who thinks the Republicans will not trot out the 'elite' tag?

And the big one is that this will be yet another election over Vietnam. Gore lost that to Bush; Kerry lost that to Bush too - and both of them served in Vietnam. Now, we will have the wife of a draft dodger against a candidate who was shot down in that war.

I ask all Democrats to please allow us to leave that Vietnam War in the past.

Make a clean break with these wars; they are losing causes

I am not a HRC supporter, but I am offended by that so called "joke". It was in poor taste and it was just flat out misogynistic.

I do not understand what is wrong with men in this country and why they are so afraid of HRC. She is a very strong, aggressive, smart woman and it seems that men just cannot handle it.

I do not mind judging candidates for their actions and voting records, but sex and race should not even be in the equation. If you have a problem with a candidate or if you even support a candidate it needs to be on their merits not gender or the color of their skin.
