Rush Limbaugh Calls Latino Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa "A Shoeshine Guy"

Hey, you know what's a riot? Comparing one of the country's foremost Latino politicians to "a shoeshine guy" because of his race.

In a segment about Hillary Clinton, the right-wing radio blabber recounted meeting Villaraigosa, who became the first Latino to head his city's government in 130 years in 2005, when Bill Clinton introduced the two of them in a restaurant last year.

"I shook [Clinton's] hand, he left, comes back [with] the mayor of Los Angeles," he told listeners. "I thought it was a Secret Service agent, maybe a shoeshine guy. Turns out he gives me his card, I said, 'Oh, my gosh, it's the mayor of Los Angeles.'"

I guess I missed the part where we established that he called him a "shoeshine guy" because of his race. It's possible it was a racist comment. But, it's equally possible that it wasn't. Seems like we should be looking for something more than a coin flip before folks start crying racism. It's like crying "wolf". Racism accusations lose their effectiveness when the card is used at every turn.

What I find confusing is why would Rush think that Clinton was introducing him to a "shoeshine guy" in a restaurant? It makes no sense because if one thinks about it, why would there be a "shoeshine guy" in a restaurant? And why would a former president of the United States be introducing Rush, while in a restaurant, to a "shoeshine guy". This reminds me of the inkblot test used to determine underlying personality traits, fears, anxiety and thoughts. He saw a Latino and associated him with a "shoeshine guy". Rather telling.
