NEW YORK — "American Idol" hopeful Jason Castro became at least the third contestant this season to flub lyrics to a song.

The Dreadlocked One performed the Bob Dylan classic "Mr. Tambourine Man," and forgot the words to the second verse Tuesday.

Wearing a goofy grin afterward, Castro acknowledged: "I lost some lines in there; that's kinda bad."

Judge Simon Cowell thought Castro's gaffe could mean the end of him. "Jason, I'd pack your suitcase," Cowell told the 20-year-old folkster from Rockwall, Texas.

The other two judges were less than impressed, too.

Randy Jackson said Castro wasn't "in the zone." Paula Abdul was, as usual, gentler.

Earlier in the night, Castro sang Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" and got brutal reviews from Jackson and Cowell.

Castro is not the first "Idol" this season to forget the lyrics.

David Archuleta, who's still in the running, goofed during a Beatles song and castoff Brooke White forgot the words to Andrew Lloyd Webber's "You Must Love Me."

I didn't know this show was still on. Is this the 20th year or something? Hasn't most everyone who thinks they have talent in the country already auditioned for it before? I guess I've missed tons of talent showcased ever so professionally.

For some reason, the teeny girls are in love with this dreadfest. I read on a site today one girl who says she voted over 2000 times, via internet, phone and texting during the 2 hours of voting. I can't imagine that even being physically possible, but multiply that times thousands of little girls and he'll be safe again tonight, while someone with some talent will get axed.

Don't worry, the only person with talent left is Archuleta, he will be safe.

I've an idea. Let's all forget American Idol instead. After all, how many more Airport Holiday Inns are still in need of lounge singers? Hasn't the show already produced enough of them to last us several years?

Yes. And, some people just come around and post stupid things like, "people still watch American Idol??wow"
Why come here and post something snide? Oh, I get it, you are putting others down so you will feel superior. How pathetic.

Does watching Idol make you superior? What a country...

I like the guy. But yep, I think it's his turn to be toast.

I am wondering too if he has been stoned for all his performances! The show's producers are probably not doing urine tests every week.

Time for him to go home. He's a one-note wonder, and that's about it. Can't believe he made it this far. David Cook was pretty awful last night, too.

If anyone else out there has been tracking the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition, you can see that the kids on it are such a class above those shown on American Idol. The musicianship these young men and women have far surpasses that of Syesha Mercado, Jason Castro and David Cooke. I have links to some performances on my page to those who are interested in actual talent.

ok if it had been, say, "desolation row" or "ballad of a thin man", then i would get it, but losing "tambourine man'? wow. i think i knew all the words to that one by the time i was five!

Jason has talent, but it seems he's out of his league in this contest. He doesn't have the range or the power for AI, and it's his eyes that have gotten him this far; it must be. I would like to see him make it in music, but it's difficult to determine what his niche would be outside of folk music. I(t's time for him to go.
