WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton lent her presidential campaign $6.4 million over the past month, her campaign said Wednesday, underscoring the financial advantage held by her rival, Barack Obama.

The money more than doubled Clinton's personal investment in her bid for the Democratic nomination. She gave her campaign $5 million earlier this year.

A campaign aide said Clinton gave her campaign another $5 million on April 11, more than a week before the Pennsylvania primary. She then again dipped into her personal wealth for $1 million last week and $425,000 on Monday, one day before the North Carolina and Indiana primaries.

Clinton's campaign reported raising $10 million online after her Pennsylvania victory on April 22. Evidently, the money was not enough and her fundraising was unable to keep up with her expenses heading into Tuesday's contests.

Moreover, Obama has routinely outspent her in primary after primary and has shown little difficulty tapping his vast network of donors. He spent more than $7 million on advertising head of Tuesday's primaries in North Carolina and Indiana to her nearly $4 million.

According to the latest campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Obama began the month of April with $42 million in the bank for the primary to Clinton's $9.3 million.

But Clinton had debts of $10.3 million at the start of the month, much of it money owed to her main polling, phone banking and advertising consultants.

Doesn't seem so though it is hard to tell.

This is ABC's take on it:

______

ABC News' Kate Snow Reports: ABC News can confirm that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., made three new loans of her own money to her campaign over the last month, two of them following her win in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary.

On April 11, Sen. Clinton loaned her campaign $5M; on May 1, she loaned $1M; and on May 5, loaned $425,000.

Insiders says Clinton "will continue to" loan money to the campaign.

______

What is her current debt, isn't it like $10M?

Now I get how she supposedbly raised $10M in one day... Take the $3.5M that Terry McAuliffe originally reported, add $6.4M and VOILA! Another big lie from Camp Clinton!

You are soo right! That is correct. I can't believe she lied.

You know,on the very night of her PA victory and following the annoucement on MSNBC that her campaign has raised 10Million,my reply was that,we shall soon find out the truth abt that particular fund raising. But then what i had in mind was that, there was no such amount and they were simply trying to motivate her supporters to donate. The truth is if they cld raise 10 million in a day following the PA victory, then there was no need to send out a campaign staff to cry for supporters to mobilise, because that wld have been enough evidence that they were mobilising.

Who wants to fund a negative campaign?

People aren't built to want to contribute to an attack dog. She could have gone more positive after all the Rev Wright fallout and looked presidential. Instead she went even more petty and pandering.

Obama OTOH could have gone negative after PA and attacked her. Wisely he realized that what he stood for was a positive message, and people responded. Last night's decisive win was an affirmation that people are looking for a hopeful candidate who focuses on honesty and solutions.

Bravo Obama. My guess is your fundraising numbers for April and May are gonna be great.

The Hillaryites are not the smartest group on this planet (Granny Brigade and those without any college education), but they smart enough not to place any bets on a horse that cant win the race.
The spigot has tightened for Hillary while BAM BAM money supply will flow into his campaign like water over Niagra Falls.

Obama is kind of prevented from being negative. If he does, he's an angry black man.

Shrilly can play the race and gender cards, Obama cannot - he's simply got to meet a higher standard and do it without being dirty. And he's doing it.

The fact that Hillary Romney has to loan her campaign money speaks volumns about her executive ablity, it's bad. Hillary and Bill's loyalists are the only ones left. Anyone with a brain has already defected to the Obama camp. Evidently these loyalists aren't qualified to do the job. Sounds like the Bush administration.

Hillary is an over achiever obsessed with power. Unfortunately this mind set takes precedence over what intelligence she has. She is incapable of objectively assessing the problem and coming to the correct solution. This is why she continues to lend herself money a continue her obsession no matter what.
This is also why she supported the Bush war, advocates nuking Iran, claims to be able to dictate to the Middle East oil cartel, and is deluded into thinking that she can dictate a gas tax holiday even with an inevitable Bush veto, and against all rational advice.
She is delusional and should never be President of the United States of America.

Hillary should personally finance the gas tax holiday.

If she really was the winning candidate and 'most electable' then she wouldn't have to loan herself money.

just proves that those who doubted her story about record fund raising after Pa were right. and the media attempt to sell us on this being a big win after losing 11% of a 20% lead failed.

Financial bankruptcy or moral bankruptcy?

O.K. am I the only one that sees that as not a huge endorsement for a candidate to loan them self money as opposed to utilizing their own money? Just sounds cheap to me.

She expects somebody else to fund her campaign. Does she expect her supporters to bail her out?

Of course it is. By calling it a "loan", it means that she wants it BACK.

Has anyone asked / found out how much interest she expects to collect? 25%

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:58 PM on 05/07/2008

It is cheap. And it just goes to show she really doesn't care about the people. Within 3 minutes of the start of her speech last night she was begging for money. They want their money back, and have no problems asking the working people she is supposidly supporting, for their hard earned money. It's so pathetic that someone who made $109 million over the last 7 years, and has pandered to struggling Americans with that silly gas tax holiday, is now wanting those same people to give her money so she can get her $11.4 million back. If she believes in her campaign so much she should be willing to pay for it and not ask the struggling people to pay for it. But it always was about her anyway....
