Dianne Feinstein To Clinton: Show Me Your Plan

More rough news for Sen. Hillary Clinton. The Hill reports that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), one of Clinton's "most prominent Senate supporters, said Wednesday that she has asked the former first lady to detail her plans for the rest of the Democratic primary."

"I, as you know, have great fondness and great respect for Sen. Clinton and I'm very loyal to her," Feinstein said. "Having said that, I'd like to talk with her and [get] her view on the rest of the race and what the strategy is."

Clinton, who eked out a win in Indiana Tuesday night but lost big to front-runner Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) in North Carolina, has not responded to Feinstein's phone call, the California senator said.

"I think the race is reaching the point now where there are negative dividends from it, in terms of strife within the party," Feinstein said. "I think we need to prevent that as much as we can."

Tuesday night's results are widely viewed as a blow to Clinton's hopes after she failed to deliver a "game-changing" performance. Instead, Obama extended his leads among delegates and popular votes.

Feinstein stressed that Clinton is not an "also-run candidate," but added that there is a question "as to whether she can get the delegates that she needs. I'd like to see what the strategy is and then we can talk further."

How about working together to put this country back on track? I only know one Hillary supporter who has said to me that she would rather vote for McCain than Obama. I hope the percentage of voters who think this way is small.

Most people I have spoken to, whether for Clinton or Obama in the primaries, have told me that they will vote for whomever gets the nomination. That is what the whole primary process is designed to do, come up with a nominee for the respective parties. We started with what, eight potential nominees? Neither of my first two choices ended up as one of the final two, but I think that all eight will gladly support whoever gets the nomination.

If disgruntled HRC supporters prefer McCain that is all the more reason why Clinton should not be the nominee. While I supported Bill during his presidency, I always thought he was too Republican. Not foaming-at-the-mouth Newt Gingrich Republican, mind you. But the right wing nut cases disliked him not because he was liberal but because he was a more effective conservative. Hillary's sewer strategy only confirms that. If you can't bring yourself to vote for Obama then vote for Ron Paul. Or Kucinich. Or Nader. Someone with some integrity. McCain has sold his soul...if he ever had one to start with. And there's something snake-eyed about his wife that creeps me out.

I'm totally with you there on the Cindy McCain thing. Also I have just urged my congressman who supports HIllary to reconsider based solely on the way she has run the campaign. Her "tenacity" is being heralded but in this case it is not healthy for the party and as president is would fear someone who barrells ahead without regard for the consequences. Why would Democrats give Senator Clinton a second look? She entered this race as the prohibitive favorite, with a massive war chest, an enormous advantage in name recognition, and what was supposed to be an experienced, overpowering organization. None of those advantages is likely to be as great in 2012.
If she is to have any hope of being the candidate the party turns to following a failed bid by Senator Obama, she will have to have worked honestly and tirelessly on his behalf in the general election - to do less would leave a sour taste in the mouths of many voters, and more importantly, many of those in power in the party. I think it far more likely that this is her one shot - and that is why it is so difficult for her to give it up.

Feinstein isn't too sharp. Maybe Feinstein hasn't been paying any attention at all, BUT Hillary is out of arguments, out of money, out of steam. How about a month of McCain and Obama starting to duke it out. And maybe some Hillary punches at McCain, too?

You never know. Though I agree she may not be interested in aligning to an Obama directed administration.

The next month is a trial period for her to make her case. Let him put down some policies and see if she can further them, rather than the other way around like it has been for the past 3 months.

Clinton has been driving policy, one after another. So if she keeps doing that it really not going to help Obama to have her on the ticket.

Clinton supporters are saying that Obama supporters "need them" and everyone seems to readily agree.

It just doesn't ring true to me. Sure, the obvious mathmatical reasons are clear. But some Clinton supporters seem to be saying this in a "you better be nice to me and nice to Hillary or you will lose my loyalty to the party....". Something like that. YUK!! All I can say is, we don't need THAT to win the presidency. I am not going to "be nice" if it means turning off my critical thinking skills.

We need to grow up. We need to pull ourselves away from the dysfunctional family that is within all of us, and is a defining attribute of this society. In fact, that is what Obama has been saying all along.
We need to TRULY in our hearts move past the lying, bickering, baiting, bullying, shaming, threatening, blackmailing. The "us and them" We really are in this together. We share the planet.

I don't want you to vote for Obama if you don't like him. I want you to vote for him after YOU have thought about for YOURSELF. If you do vote for him, you have made an investment and can hold him more accountable than if you don't. If you don't, then we should assume you didn't think he would be an appropriate person to be president.

If everyone did that then the chips would fall "where they may" in better fashion than they are now.

It's not about "liking" a candidate. It's about the policies, not a perosnality contest.

I don't like Obama's stance on foreign policy. I don't like the many pro-Hamas advisors he surrounds himself with. I don't like his former advisor Samantha Power who proclaimed the USA must use military force against Israel to establish a Palestine state. I don't like his medical insurance plan that favors insurance companies. I don't like his YAY vote on the energy bill. I don't like a lot of his votes on Nafta.

However, I was willing to vote for him in November because I more passionatley dislike like John McCain's policies.

Now you're telling me not to vote for him unless I like him? Sure I like him enough to hang out with him -- but I don't like his policies.

I can understand if you like Sen. Clinton's policies more than Sen.Obama's. However, given that fact I can't understand how you could like McCain's policies more than Sen. Obama's. Clinton and Obama are not much different on policies, they have subtle dif erences that have led to extremely loyal supporters of each. However, McCain's policies are much different, last 8 years different. I disagree with Clinton's proposed gas tax holiday and think it is horrible economics and pandering BUT McCain's is irresponsible and irrational. At least Sen.Clinton wants to try and make Oil Co, pay the difference (which won't happen) but Sen McCain wants to defund the roads and bridges. I understand if Clinton supporters are disappointed at the large (very large) probabilty of Sen. Obama being the nominee, but imagine the disappointment at 4 years of a McCain administration. Unless of course you believe the country has prospered under the policies of Pres. Bush, many of which will be continued under McCain.
