John Oliver goes where few journalists dare: the Pollies. Yes, there really is an award show for political ads, and it is a scary world.

I kept waiting to hear it was a gag...I mean how could it be real. Their faces when Oliver gave his presentation were AWEsome!
That was one hell of a yard sign!
I now know what it feels like to be both amused and depressed at the same time.
Just imagine how much better off the world would be if a freak gas explosion ....
Living in Europe ... we do not get inundated with all the propaganda and hoopla. We have to decide the hard way, we go to the candidates website and see where they stand on the issues; read a couple of books; discuss with fellow citizens living abroad in some outdoor cafe for hours.
Oddly enough, I have picked the correct candidate best suited for the job each time (win or lose) ... this year was far too easy though. I decided on Senator Obama back in October, as he was the clear choice ... mainly because of his experience and stands on the issues and war in Iraq.
By the way ... who is this Rev. Wright bloke? I am still not sure how "job performance" has anything to do with his pastor. Are people in America getting job reviews at their places of employment now based on their pastor's comments? In Europe that would be unlawful ... we Americans have a strange way of choosing the leader of the "free" world.
This Rev. Wright bloke is a completely irrelevant complication created by the news media and everybody who wants to bring Obama down. He has nothing to do with anything but he gives the political opponents and racist scum something to chew on.
Love this comment. Spot on. We are seriously crazy these days. Still, I think the "same" ones will make sure Barack gets elected. Everyone else can thank us later.
"because of his experience" ....that was a joke right?
Any pig would feel like Carry Grant around those slimy bastards. The most disgusting part is that they sleep with human beings when they go home. Ugh.
We assume that they do..anyway
Biting satire at its best! I understand the DS "correspondents" write their own material..
Polly awards are about the sickest idea to come along in awhile but people are obsessed with getting and giving awards ... any award! Go figure!
I do think that this stuff is pure slime. I love the Daily Show. It is really nice to watch after a full day of watching all of the stressful political stuff, it is nice to have a good laugh before you go to bed. I think that they should have a Slim News Show and give Fox the award. You can be sure that Fox is going to increase their ugliness against Obama and it is sad that these so called christians would act this way. What I don't understand is how they can say they are such fine chistians and expect people to believe it. Don't they understand that their conduct says something much more about them than what they profess. They are really thugs in suits.
I guess free speach, does allow you to yell fire in a crowded theatre
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, THE TRUTH IS THE GREATEST ENEMY OF THE STATE." -- Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945
The Daily Show spoofed some of it, but in fact there is an award show for the political slime machine, how sad.
http://www
It's not for real. They taped the most outrageous stuff when there was no audience in the room and cut it with reaction shots during the real awards ceremony.
Loved the Daily Show before they went high tech and fancy. Not so much now.
They've always cut things together and engaged in creative editing. Stephen Colbert talked about doing that even before Jon Stewart started hosting in 1999.
You know it's a comedy show right? And you did get that they were making a point and not actually telecasting the awards? Just checking.
It's for real!
Never again will we need to wonder why our political discourse is so degraded. The "In Memoriam" section killed me.
I'm confused. Is this for real?
"Is this for real?"
Yes. Well, at least the "Pollies" are real...pre
WHy is it considered "ballsy" to get in front of someone and tell them how you really feel about them? It is pretty easy to tell someone to fuck off. Even tactfully.
Please someone tell me that all of that was scripted satire. This couldn't be for real. And if it is, then it is time for for the real Americans to take this country back from the repube posers.
John Oilver and The Daily Show were doing satire, the award show they were at however sadly is for real.
