Philly Police Beating

A half-dozen police officers kicked and beat three men pulled from a car during a traffic stop as a TV helicopter taped the confrontation.

The video, shot by WTXF-TV, shows three police cars stopping a car Monday, two days after a city officer was shot to death responding to a bank robbery.

The tape shows about a dozen officers gathering around the vehicle. About a half-dozen officers hold two of the men on the ground. Both are kicked repeatedly, while one is seen being punched; one also appears to be struck with a baton.

The third man is also kicked and ends up on the ground.

"On the surface it certainly does not look good in terms of the amount of force that was used," Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said. "But we don't want to rush to judgment."

Keep reading here.

In America police have been getting very bad trainning for many years now. They have lost all respect for the people they are supposed to protect and defend instead they have been taught to protect and defend themselves.
Since the days of ronney reagan saint of saints of the repiglican party we have had our rights taken away and some of us are to stupid or don't even know what they have lost.
Before ronney if the police wanted to search your car they had to get a warrant not anymore they don't even have to have a warrant to search your home now.
Might as well live with the saudis.

Maybe they should have shot them 50 times. Then they would have gotten off of any charges.

Look Cops are humans and they have emotions just like everybody else. I see a difference between bashing the head of a cuffs person as opposed to a little bit of kicking. Look there are dangerous people in the world and they need to be taken care of.

There is nothing wrong if a Police officer kicks or slaps a person for their troubles. It is just like the issue of spanking to me. i was spanked as a kid and I turned out far better than the kids of today who tell their parents to shut up or go to hell. We need a lil more spanking not less and mind you there is a difference between spanking and beating.

I DON'T SEE EXCESSIVE FORCE PEOPLE. It seems to me the policemen are doing their job.

I'm glad some one here finally has the balls to come out and admit that cops brutalize people. Thanks Zhonni. Poor folks and the black community have lived in fear of the police and have tried for years to get people to admit that cops are off the leash running around beating and killing them. It's good to see people like Zhonni are finally admitting that they were right all along.

People are under the mistaken impression that it is against the law for the police to beat you up or kill you. Wrong. They can and do use force whenever they feel like it. People who have little contact with the police are the ones who are most surprised by the lack of restraint that the police have...until its their head getting cracked.

Well maybe black people shouldn't deal hard drugs and shoot cops. Maybe things will work out then.

Bend over Zhonni, you're a very bad boy (or girl); I'm going to have to give you a spanking.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand that revenge is man's greatest sin well as an ultimate death sentence of the human race. That "my father is bigger than your father" or "last gunfighter" mentality is one of the primary reasons behind the escalation of violence all over the planet and why the weapons continue to become more lethal.

An officers job is to apprehend people without injury to themselves or the people they are arresting. There is absolutely everything wrong with police acting as father to the public meeting out your so called discipline. If you think it is the job of the police to meet out punishment I only pray you don't have any authority in your real life.

Well, I pray your prayer is not answered and I believe it won't be because mine was answered before I was even born. I will be somebody and I intend to be somebody in authority.

Of course police shouldn't cause injury but how does a kick injure you unless it is hard enough to snap your bone. A kick in the face can cause injuries easily but I did not see them kicking them in the head.

Thanks for your concern.

"I DON'T SEE EXCESSIVE FORCE PEOPLE. It seems to me the policemen are doing their job."

Who are you, exactly? The Pope, the King or Jeebus, himself? Screaming at the rest of us in all-caps doesn't make you more correct, merely more obnoxiously arrogant.

In fact, your use of the all-caps device plus your phrasing, such as repeatedly telling (not asking), us to, "look," screaming, "PEOPLE," at us and raising the fact that you were spanked as a child - all of these things tell me that you have some unresolved issues. You may have convinced yourself that being spanked helped you, but your comment delineates one of the many ways that spanking children not only doesn't help, but actually does them lasting harm.

Clearly, being hit as a child helped to make you a callous adult who lacks functioning empathy. What exactly is, "a little bit of kicking?" I suspect that it's when you (or your mommy and/or daddy), are doing the kicking, much like waterboarding isn't torture when Republicans do it. I wonder what your reaction would be to a school teacher hitting your child or a cop kicking you?

I am not a Republican and I have never endorsed torture!!!

Let me tell you that my most of my caps are not screams, you will be able to tell when I scream because I would stress individual words as opposed to the whole sentences and also by the content of it.

I often use cap to draw more attn to my post. It works, that's why you read and replied to it.

Just because I find nothing wrong with this clip here doesn't mean that I approve all police beatings/hittings. They are not all Police brutallity.

They work to protect you, if you are not a criminal, you have nothing to fear. I have a few of my fellow Marines who are cops. They are fathers, brothers, husbands... and they are not them, they are us. I am an armed guard as I put myself through school so I guess we're coming from different backgrounds.

Obviously we should wait to see how tis pans out in the courst and through the police departments own internal mechanisms for dealing with this type of situation! How many times are we going to give officers a break for having these types of incidents? Their mission is to protect and serve the community andit is travesty to think these types of incidents do anything other than hurt that bond they are supposed to have in the community. I realize they have a tough job certainly, but that is exactly why it is so important that our officers who serve the public must ensure the upmost standards and ethics when it comes to dealing with those in the community. Even if these suspects broke the law, they are still Americans and as Americans they are entitled to the same respect that any member of our society deserves. From the video in and of itself, this looks like the cops were beating men who were face down on the pavement. How is this in the range of what is safe and standard for police procedures? And let's say they were being hit by the officers, would you not expect them to squirm and use their arms and legs to defend themselves? It is hard for me as rational person and someone who respects the rights of ithers to give any empathy towrads the officers conduct in this video.

This AP reporter Patrick Walters should be fired and never allowed to write a story again. "A half-dozen police officers kicked and beat.." then it turns into "About a half-dozen officers hold two of the men on the ground" How bout nearly a dozen police officers are seen kicking or beating suspects" My favorite though is the cop with the out of control dog that beats the dog because its going after him.

I think it looks great for officers! They don't have a thing to worry about!! In this country, if you are rich, famous, or a in a position of power you will almost always get the acquittal, the reduced sentence, the defferment. We've seen it again and again with celebrities and still we are shocked over and over again like babies during a peek-a-boo game when the celebs only serve a fraction of their sentence. I'm sure these fine officers will get back home with their families in no time. Don't expect a criminal sentence for any of them. Don't be shocked anymore, just decide if you want to sit bacl and be complacent about it or if you want to try and do something, but be suprised anymore, thats just silly.

Doesn’t look good for the officers. All the officers are supposed to do is apprehend them and bring them to jail....figure out the rest through a court of law if necessary.

Then...I see cops running from suspect to suspect to take part in beating each one. Whats up with that?

Sounds, sorry, looks like Philly cops are among the finest American nazis. Wonder if any of them are combat veterans.

You take away people's freedoms, squeeze their money and they get angry, loose control. Cops have become less tolerant, professional to anyone. No proper equipment to fight/defend, no money, so they strong-arm people not misbehaving who they think they can get money from, creating another dissident who won't donate money/give them respect. Eventually they break the law...Vicous cycle. I wonder if this is the Bush admin intensions to creat marshall law and stay in office past their time? A lot of Bush voters (base) in PA.
