AmericaBlog:

The king of the pundits, Mark Halperin, drops a tantalizing hint about General Wes Clark, a strong Clinton supporter and fellow Arkansan:

"The biggest question: Will any of her supporters (including Wes Clark) say publicly or privately she should quit?"

We like General Clark here at AMERICAblog, and have a bit of a history with him. In fact, we've heard that Clark did call Hillary tonight, telling her it's time to quit. Perhaps the general's most dangerous mission to date.

The Voice of Reason
how refreshing!

I'll be happy to be back in the same boat with Gen. Clark.
I hold this man in great esteem and he will be an asset to the Obama Administration!

How predictable, Clark brown-nosing Obama with this 'unifier' schtick. The Ultimate Perfumed Prince wants in...how cute.

Haven't we had enough Clinton rehash by now? Who wants the guy who oversaw the Waco massacre to beat one heartbeat away from the Presidency?

There is no longer a reason for Hillary to stay in this race. Why stay in until she wins Kentucky and West Virginia and Obama wins Oregon? What's that going to change to make it a better time to drop out? If anything it'll make it a more difficult justification to her supporters to drop out after two (possibly big) wins.

Now is the time for the un-pledged super delegates to publicly announce their support for Barack Obama so this tiring race can be ended for the good of the party.

VP:

my thoughts

1) the gender ticket
- Sebelius,
- Klobuchar
-Jennifer Granholm (gov. of Michigan)

2) the white men blue collar ticket in swing states
-Evan Bayh (Indiana)
-Ted Strickland (Ohio)
-Ed Rendell (Farrakhan's best friend)

3) the latino ticket
-Bill Richardson

4) The economic and black-jewish uniter ticket
-Michael Bloomberg

5) the 100% black ticket
-Deval Patrick
-James Clyburn
-Jeremiah Wright
-Louis Farrakhan

6) the purple ticket
-Arnord Schwarzenegger (could he be VP or the VP must have born in the US ?)

You know you had a pretty thoughtful post going there right up to when you wrote Wright and Farrakhan. Just goes to show you're probably a GOP Troll.

And Arnie, can't be a VP because that person is one heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Neither can Granholm, she's Canadian.

no-no. I'm a truly white catholic Obama fan from Switzerland. I 've only slept 3 hours last night to follow the primaries because of jetlag. This was amazing with "Lake" county. The Wright/Farrakhan pick was a just a joke.

Switzerland is a conservative country but one poll said the Swiss would choose Obama with 65%.

Obama is the only candidate who can give back a great image of the US wolrldwide.

Yes, you have to be a natural-born citizen to be VP. I certainly hope he wouldn't pick Arnold anyway.

My personal favorites: Biden, Bloomberg or Sebelius.

Wright?? Farrakhan?? Aaaahnold?? What's this, the troll's version of bait and switch? Start out masquerading as a reasonable human being, then rip off your mask to reveal Karl Rove? Yuck.

In case anybody failed to notice, HRC is STILL screeching about how she's going all the way to Denver. So, the "reality based" part of the Democratic electorate still has some work to do -- keep up the pressure for someone who has influence with her, to help her find the door. Someone she'll listen to, who actually cares more about America than feeding her ego. Who knows, maybe Clark is the guy.

By the way, there's another guy worth watching out there for future national office/party leadership. His name is Cory Booker and he's the mayor of Newark, NJ. He happens to be African American, but with Barack blazing the way, perhaps that will not have to be the first thing everyone talks about when Booker starts to show up on the national stage.

I'm a white guy, so I have no ethnically-based reason to want to promote Booker. I just happened to catch an interview with him on PBS/Bill Moyers' Journal, and noticed that the guy is a really smart, natural leader. Check it out...

You must be born in the US to be VP. Same rules as being President apply for VP.

Wes Clark will not be the V.P. I don't see what he does for the ticket. We have Gov. Kaine, Gov. Sebelius, San Nunn, Jim Webb, even John Kerry, Gov. of Arizona- Napaolitano? e.t.c.

You don't see what Wes Clark does for the ticket? Erm... how about strong military experience, being from the south and capturing Obama's toughest voting block to convince: white blue collar workers

All sound like pretty strong reasons to me.

Webb is better for the Military part of the ticket Plus he's from VA a big state and a necessary state.

How about uniting these two warring factions so that we can win in November. As a Clark supporter in 2004 I was little pissed that he supported Hillary. Hillary is not going to be on the ticket. If it were not for the wounds of this campaign that obviously need to be healed my choice would have been Webb or Nunn (My Home State).

I would either like Jim Webb of Gov. Sebelius on the ticket....what a combination......Imagine if Obama calls for Sebelius...Now that would get some votes.

Deft move Wesley Clark. She's losing now and you need a little visibility to remind voters you want to be the Democratic VP candidate?

Richardson has flubbed a few times and playing unifier is a great way to be noticed.

Kudos.

VP- Definitely not Hillary, can't trust her and Bill would be lurking in the shadows and I don't know about Wesley Clark. I don't think I'd want someone as Vice President that had been too close to her camp.

Actually, I think Wes Clark would be a great choice. Obama will need to pick a guy who has executive experience and military experience: Webb, Richardson, Biden or Clark would be great choices.

Without getting into the other two, Clark would be a great choice, because it's a way for Obama to to pick a guy who will attract Clinton supporters without taking on the baggage that Clinton has. Clark would also more-or-less negate McCain's military advantage (Clark doesn't have the POW thing on his resume, but his actual military career is far more impressive). Plus he is a working-class, white, male - which can't hurt Obama in that demographic.

The dems can't afford to lose Senate seats. I think he needs to look to a Governor or top military official. I really like Ed Rendell. I know, I know he's from Hillary's camp. But he would lock up PA and go a long way to suring up OH, plus he would help with the Jewish vote in FL. He's a brilliant man. I'm from North Philly and was there front and center when he turned our deficit into a surplus. Made tough decisions for the good of the community. Brought commerce back to Philly. Now he's doing it for the entire state of PA. He has said, however, that he is commited to finishing out his term as governor. His negatives that the GOP would look at is his praise of Farrakhan back in the 80's. Also his role (if there's much there) in the Clintons' Peter Paul case. That said, I think he would be outstanding...

Good points. I think that Gen. Anthony Zinni should be considered, also.

I suspect this morning, there are many people urging her to concede, but will she listen? The math has gotten a lot harder for her to overcome and she is most likely in debt, or close to it. This would be a good time for the superdelegates to step up to the plate if she won't step down. It's over and we need to move on, at this point her only reason for carrying on is to indulge her ego.

Let's get back on topic, America.

Let's talk about the war, and how we are going to end it.

Not giving up - I agree with Rachel from Air America --she is still hoping to take Obama out of the race. Hillary is not going to get out gracefully.

Wes Clark has to be on Obama's short list. He'd bring the military experience and foreign policy credentials as well. Plus he is a Clinton person. Putting one of her strongest supporters on the ticket would salve some of the wound. I think he'd be popular with that workingclass white vote as well.

If he is advising Clinton to drop out I'll be interested to see if he starts sending feelers out to the Obama camp.
